Progress Reports Rule Changes

Recommended Posts

Clarification: We've updated the existing About This Board post to reflect the intent of the new rules. Note that posts about interesting things you do together in your wonderland are NOT disallowed, and make interesting posts if written coherently. What we're trying to discourage is blogging about things that are only tangentially tulpa related at best. Because the below proposed rules confused people, we've opted to edit the existing post instead.

We're about to overhaul the rules for the Progress Reports board. The biggest change is that blogging and discussion of random off-topic things will be strongly discouraged, though we're not locking it down into topic only. Some off-topic material is okay, as long as it is related to your tulpa experience in a relevant way. The reason for this change is that Progress Reports should be interesting to read for outsiders interested in the tulpa phenomenon, not just to participants in the thread. The intention of this board was for users to share their experiences with the tulpa phenomenon—not to blog about their personal lives, or have random conversations with friends; the Lounge board exists for that very purpose.

We will be reviewing current PR threads as they are bumped with replies, though most threads will be grandfathered in, unless they are in severe violation of the new rules. We will send a PM to the authors of such threads, and they will have two weeks to clean up their posts; if nothing is done by then, the thread will be moved to Your Deleted Posts until it's fixed. The author may also choose to have their posts edited by a moderator. Comments by other users in the thread which are in violation will either be deleted, or a PM will be sent to that user asking them to revise it.

The following new rules will replace the content of this post.

Welcome to Progress Report! This is a space where you can and should record the progress of your tulpa.

What this section is:

  • A place where you can post updates on your tulpa.
  • A place to get advice from others if your issues are specific to you or require a lot of background information to understand. The Questions and Answers board is the best place for simpler questions that will likely apply to others.
  • A place to post images of your tulpa, although if this is the main content of your thread, you'd be better off in Tulpa Art.
  • An area to record your thoughts and opinions on the phenomenon.

What is not allowed:

  • Blogging. Blogging is considered recording unrelated details of your day and life. A little off-topic is okay if it ties in, but please try to keep it relevant.
  • Unrelated information, pictures, or comments. There's a Lounge for that kind of discussion.
  • A thread filled solely with questions. If you have a series of burning questions, we recommend using the search function, and if nothing is found, ask on Questions and Answers.
  • Anything of offensive or extreme nature is unacceptable. Relevant discussion of sexuality is allowed if it is handled maturely.
  • Multiple threads. You are allowed one progress report. If you want to start a new one, use the Report function or contact staff to have your old one deleted.

Blogging examples:

  • Posting about your day with snippets of your tulpa thrown in. This includes posting chat logs.
  • In-depth descriptions of what happened in your wonderland. More often than not, it's best kept to yourself.
  • Mundane experiences, such as during possession your tulpa went up to get peanut butter and then this and that and...

Of course, some blogging-like activity is okay, so long as it's relevant and isn't done to excess.

NSFW material:

Some discussion of topics of an adult nature is allowed here, but only if it is handled maturely and not to excess. Discussion of a tulpa's sexuality and the occasional nude reference image of a tulpa are allowed. Raunchy jokes, sex stories and pornography are not. If you post a NSFW image, please link to it along with a warning, or hide it inside a [hidden] tag.

"If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. If it happened and you're thinking back to it, try and think back further. Try not to avoid it with your mind. If any of this is possible, it may be helpful. If not, it won't be."

Holy crap, Melian's PR will need an axe taken to it! I have never had an easy time with what is appropriate related to "progress." Sometimes we post personal discoveries about tulpamancy or thoughtforms in general or new insights into about Melian and her nature. Sometimes we ranted about the forum and the founding concepts of the community. Sometimes we argued about semantics and terminology. Sometimes we talked about dreams we had. Sometimes we wrote down stories or even posted links to videos related to Melian's personality or mine or my experiences with a thoughtform. We may have to delete half our PR or delete the whole thing and start over. I don't think I will have time to go through every post to see if it is "blogging." I will need a lot of help on this. A lot of what we wrote is very important insights to me as we do a lot of musing in writing. You are going to hack up our personal Tulpa Info journey? What about our discoveries about maladaptive day dreaming, Melian being illusory make believe, blending and median systems? Those are important to us. This kind of thing always makes me paranoid about targeted censorship. Thank the gods I write the best insights and discoveries into a separate PDF "book." THAT is mine and Melian's and won't be subject to being altered.

Talking about the forum and its concepts would be on-topic. As would terminology and insights into your experience, and a fair bit of what you said—although admittedly, Progress Reports may not be the best place for a collection of on-topic things unrelated to your personal experience with your tulpa. That's why we have other boards, after all. I can't personally tell you where your PR stands in regards to these new rules, as I've never read it, but I suppose we will be finding out.

I can understand wanting to bring the PR reports back to the original concept of ... well a progress report. But why is the concept of general blogging about things loosely related to your tulpa so bad? Blogging is FUN and people enjoy it. It seems like each heavy handed rule that comes down kills the furom a bit more. Why does "scientific" have to mean "on topic and insanely repetitive and dull?"

I have another thread "Melian's Musings" in the lounge. It is frequently off topic and blog like. Can I move my more "bloggy" posts (as Melian would call them) there? Better yet, let's make it simple and move my entire PR to "Melian's Musings." There has never been much progress to report from Melian and I anyway, just drama, attention seeking, thought provoking and hackle raising ramblings. Mixed in with all the fluff however, is a LOT of good insights and things, not just from Melian and I, but from many others. Some found it fun and amusing to read, by their own admission. Those that dont' can avoid reading it.

The matter is simply how loosely the content is related to tulpas. The threads should have enough on-topic, relevant content that they still clearly represent the board's purpose. The point at which off-topicness and "loose" relevancy becomes a significant part of the thread is when I believe that the problem truly arises. The fact of the matter is that we have the Lounge board specifically for whatever off-topic musings you desire (within reason). We do not intend to censor users; we merely want them to respect the boards' intent, and post content in appropriate areas.

The board is called "Progress Reports". If we wanted it to be, or thought that having a "Personal Blogs" section would be a good idea that overall affects the site in a positive way, then things might be different. Logs of users' experiences with tulpas—the topic of the entire site—is an important and relevant part of our content, and I don't believe we should allow unnecessary blogging to dilute this section.

Mmm, this is probably for the best. I think I'm going to go ahead and start seeing if I can clean up anything from my own PR. For the most part I think my own is safe, but it never does hurt to be careful, I guess.

I will wait to see what happens and what is suggested for me and follow your suggestions on what to do with Melian's "PR." I am taking what you are saying about the lounge to mean that Melian's Musings thread is not really being scrutinized, at least at the moment. So that's good. If you want it simple, just move her entire PR and attach it to Melian's Musings in the lounge. Melian's PR is all off topic as far a "progress" is concerned. There isn't a single word about Melian growing as a tulpa in her PR anywhere. In fact, we don't really need a PR. I think that was a mistake for me to try to start one.

Lucilyn was just going to create a Progress Report earlier today, even going so far as to say "Lumi never made one as he considered his tulpas fully developed when he got here, but this is tulpa blog space anyway." before getting distracted by music and losing interest. But to be fair, everything she and my other tulpas would've talked about would be on topic, anyway. A lot of people are accustomed to talking about their lives in their PR's, but it shouldn't be hard for those not already doing it to follow.

Hi! I'm Lumi, host of Reisen, Tewi, Flandre and Lucilyn.

Everyone deserves to love and be loved. It's human nature.

My tulpas and I have a Q&A thread, which was the first (and largest) of its kind. Feel free to ask us about tulpamancy stuff there.

Is light swearing okay? Because there have been a few times when my tulpas have used curse words, and I've included them in the interest of making my PR as comprehensive as possible (within reason).

Also, I made a few mentions of a controversial issue (such as one of my tulpas praising me for bringing such an issue up with a friend, and one of my tulpas reacting when my friend expressed their stance on the issue). I would say that the controversial topic was handled maturely/calmly.

I'm not really sure there's much in the way of " progress"; mostly my PR's just a log of my day-to-day tulpa-related activities.

Profanity will be moderated in the same way as every other board already is; it is fine, as long as it is done somewhat tastefully, and not in excess.

There is nothing wrong with "controversial" topics, so long as they don't break any of the other rules.
