A Tulpa Game done right?!?!

Steam Greenliht game

So I found this project on Greenlight, besides this bit.

In Tibetan Buddhism tulpa is a materialized thoughtform, in modern psychiatry – a psychological disorder, manifesting as a controlled hallucination.
That seems a bit counter-productive to Tulpa culture, but that aside this seems legit.

Your thoughts?

Hmm...

Russians tend to make good and unconventional games. The art looks alright too.

Imagination Games is a visual novel about grim Russian guy with quite unusual name Ichiro.

totally not a weeb

The real world has rejected him, and that's the primary reason that leads him to attempt of creating his own reality.

inb4 tulpas are for autistic losers with no friends

a psychological disorder

Someone is going to get a lengthy WTF did you just fucking say about me... comment soon

It does what it wishes to do, and may not necessarily be on your side.

No shit, sherlock!

I wonder how much creepypasta we'll get to see in this one.

I'd say the game has potential, still I'm afraid they'll go full mainstream in the end to maximize the audience.

Wanna bet the happy end involves something like the tupper has fulfilled its role and disappears so the guy can be a normie again?

600 Rubles on the table says they'll take the creepy pasta approach to tulpamancy instead of a regular tulpa. It's as if no media can actually convey a real tulpa... Probably cuz it's not as interesting...

Looking at both the art style of the VN, and the way the concept of the phenomenon is described, it seems to be going straight for easy-horror at top speed. I'd be surprised if it DIDN'T use the concept for horror, and even more shocked if the game actually addresses the protagonist's own personal issues instead of the tulpa being the "root of all evil", and its removal causing everything in the protag's life to be a-okay. Extra cliche points if this removal results in the protagonist getting a girlfriend who was totally always in to him.

A tulpa can easily fall in to the usual trope that lazy writers use multiple personalities for. What's more, their relation to their host can be even more easily ignored than it can be with an alter. There are so many easy horror cliches with this concept, and actually talking to people who have experience may be creepy to the writer, so I'm not holding out much hope that it won't dig right in to the cliche pile.

I'm willing to bet my life on the fact that the link will lead to an RPG Maker game that will take the creepypasta route.

*Clicks it* - Well, seems I was half-right. Yay, I'm half-alive, still!

But really, the guy lost me at "psychological disorder" and "Russian named Ichiro (who is super-edgy and kewl and a loner, because that's also kewl)".

I'm not happy with people drawing bad attention to the subject of tulpamancy, providing wrong information. Especially the psychological disorder part sounds terrible.

Tulpa: Alice

Form: Realistic Humanoid/Demonic Creation

She may or may not talk here, depends on her.

Fade: Cliche as fuck. How much research did he do on tulpamancy? I wonder if all he did was read the creepypasta and an article or two at most.

This is why game developers need proper writing teams. Then again, I don't know if he'd be able to get one. Self-developed game makers usually can't, but still. There is nothing that makes me more twitchy than someone taking a story and handling it badly...

This really makes me wanna do a novel or manga on the tupper subject.

(For those who don't already know - I'm working towards a career as a writer / mangaka.)

Like, seriously.

This really makes me wanna write a story about the subject that is accurate.

And that captures all sides, all ups and downs of it, properly.
