An idea: Crowdfunding project for large, serious and recent tulpa study & experiment.

Just an idea. Staff or someone competent and willing to run a crowdfunding project required to gather funds to conduct serious study and experiments regarding the phenomenon. I'm a technician and I like psychology too, it's my hobby. And it was hard for me to find some recent and relevant technical data regarding tulpa creation and other aspects. What I found were some EEG sheets from 90's. I think it would help the community to gather funds for this. To make recent, larger and more controlled study and experiments.

Now I don't have anything more to say than this ... I believe there are organizations able to provide necessary equipment for a price. There are people who would be willing to be part of such project. Suitable managers, research staff or specimens. I don't intend to be part of that, I merely bring up the idea of starting it up.

Please post your opinions in brief forms. Effective concepts for the project are welcome.

Simple EKG scan or brain scan, I dont know what scan in particular but there is a scan that shows increase in brain activity when thinking/imagining/talking etc.

Scan people with tulpas talking to their tulpas in mindvoice, outloud, imposing them, etc etc

Scan people without tulpas doing the same, talking in their head, outloud, imagining a person in front of them, etc etc

look for differences in brain activity

EEG scans are relatively cheap, yet I do not know how much information this would yield.

Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging on the other hand is highly expensive.

A single fMRI scan will cost something between 500 and 1000 USD.

Considering the complexity of the phenomenon you will need a high number of replicates to gather enough data for decent statistics. Prepare to invest a few 10K here.

But the biggest problem is data analysis. You will need an expert for fMRI analysis, usually a physician. Then a neurologist and ideally a psychologist to make overall sense of it all. A single person will most likely not have the qualification to do it all so you will need to pay at least 2-3 scientists to do the work. And labor is highly expensive. I would estimate the total cost to be well beyond 100K, that's peanuts in research. I've worked on projects which ate up 500K and more in no time. Just in case you were wondering where the taxpayers' money is disappearing.

So I'd say there's about 0 chance to crowdfund such a project, simply because you will not get the research staff that is needed. The only chance would be to get some scientist interested in the topic and do a fMRI scan under his supervision. If that yields unexpected results, that might get a project funded. But I fear, most scientists will avoid the tulpa subject due to the esoteric touch it still has for many people. Very few researchers will want to risk their reputation because of such stuff.

My advice would be to start small. Make people and the public familiar with the tulpa phenomenon and try to gather support from the scientific community. Would also be interesting to see what the multiple community has brought up on this subject.

What Yakumo said. Unless you want to do this research project with dated technology, you will want to be paying a radiologist, neurologist and the staff of the scanning apparatuses, which are highly skilled workers who tend to get paid decent amounts of money. There's also the cost of using the machine itself, which isn't cheap.

I suppose the best thing to do is infiltrate a university under the guise of wanting to become a neurologist or whatever, and networking until you have enough resources and people on your side to do this. Call me in 12 years, I might be a neurologist by then.

Feel free to ask me anything.

Suffering is self-imposed. Don't let it control you.

You would not only need scientists and equipment, you would also need to horde alot of test subjects and monitor them at different points. Its just too big of a project to get done with crowdfunding.

Tri:

We are scientists and have to agree Yakumo, most sorts of research other than EEG ones would requires +100k to be able to do. That all said, there are people doing this sort of research on people diagnosed with DID. It would probably be more effective to get them to know of our existence and then do research on us and compare and contrast to people diagnosed with DID. They might be particularly interested in those of us who have systems of mixed origins (multiple with tulpas).

It is an interesting ploy. It would be sort of a dream coming true if just some of renowned scientists in the world stumbled upon and get all over this. Only then the tulpa phenomenon can get like worldwide known and people, assertive people could benefit from it and help all mankind benefit from it. - The usual stuff people say about breakthroughs that has undreamed potential to make the world a better place. Like a world peace.

Yeah, and then all of the abusive idiots in the world will have tulpa's. PLS no mainstream tulpa's most people in the world are either really dumb or worse and thats just not good.

Well, coming from someone who's seen a Neurologist for 12~ years, with healthcare an MRI costs nothing, so if anyone wants to commit insurance fraud a few hundred times, steal the data and kidnap a Neurologist we have it in the bag.

In all seriousness though I see no reason why the money side is not possible through crowdfunding, after of course a long campaign of trying to get it more well known at least around the internet, wouldn't even bother outside of the internet until AFTER the research.

I'm thinking that in the future, at least after I am a legal adult in all countries of the world I might attempt to discuss the topic of tulpas with my Neurologist. Hes a pretty understanding person, and considering hes known me since I was 5 or 6 I think he would be somewhat inclined to at least listen to me. He cant really blame it on a mental disorder or anything like that considering he has MRI's of my brain from throughout the majority of my life, and access to all my medical records.

I think a lot more people than we think would be open to the ideas of tulpas if they were shown the scientific side first and introduced into the topic little by little.

Edit: I forgot my entire point in the money part, I dont see why it wouldnt be possible, if we had a benefactor or a few. I'm sure there are very successful people out there with tulpas, or simply very successful people who are interested in tulpas, or would be interested once they were introduced to the topic.
