Can't visualize at all?

Recommended Posts

I've been looking at this tulpa thingy for a month or so now. Mostly waiting till exams were done and over with. But, when I sit down and try to visualize things I can't even really see. It's just spots of black and big sweeping slashes of like plasma *Thing of looking into a light and closing your eyes, the purple thingies* I mean, sometimes it's less covered in plasma and I can picture what I want my tulpa to look like but, it's rather sporadic. Am I just ballsing everything up or am I missing some guide that explained getting rid of that?

Close your eyes and think of something, like an apple, or an animal or anything else.

You're just seeing the back of your eyelids, instead of using your imagination.

You know how you "think" of memories and can see things form your memories? Do exactly that. Think back to a time, possibly, when you were outside playing or something. Try to remember how blinding the sun might have been or how dark the clouds were.

Now, just as you brought a memory to your mind, try picturing your Tulpa in a similar place. Picture every little detail.

Well, I, on the other hand, think you all look perfect.

Don't try to use force when imagining. Just relax. Relax deeply and enjoy this state of complete relaxation, deepening relaxation when everything outside fades away, sounds and sensations fade away as if you become the world itself, everything fades away and you feel great with no disturbances aroung you. When you are ready, you can start visualizing, your thoughts will visualize easily without effort. You will be watching it.

The tricky part is that you focus on forcing visualizing instead of visualizing. Just relax.

Sounds like you might be better off doing it in a dimly lit room. Doing in the dark will only perpetuate phosphene("the purple thingies") since it's not actually light entering your eyes. Same goes with doing it in a brightly lit room. As previously stated you also shouldn't force it at all. It might be beneficial to just lightly meditate before trying by closing your eyes and taking a few slow deep breaths, then just concentrate on your breathing. Whenever your mind wanders just pay attention to your breathing again. Straining yourself by trying to force it is only hurting you.

It sounds like you're waiting for stuff to appear on the backs of your eyelids. Plasma fields and afterimages are all you're going to get like that.

You will see things in your mind's eye until imposition. With your eyes closed, you need to shift your mental focus away from your eyeballs, to that other plane of images. It's like how things appear when you "imagine" with your eyes open, or when you "see" a scene as you read a vivid description in a novel.

Just keep looking at the back of your eyelids. IF you keep doing this you will reach that point where you are about to start dreaming. Literally any thought that pops into your head will appear in-front of you as if you had opened your eyes. You might have difficulty concentrating, but it is worth it.

Hypnogogic imagery = ultimate visualization... If you get it right.

Also, not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet, but some people find better success just day-dreaming. Yes, that is with your eyes open.

Good points, Voltron. However, maintaining a hypnogogic state for hours without either falling asleep or returning to waking is a challenge. I actually tried this approach early on when my visualization was useless. It wasn't clear-as-day, but it was quite vivid and I could feel textures. However, it was really hard for me to get into that state without falling asleep. Getting my normal visualization to that point has taken quite a while.

(Actually, now that I'm working on getting deeper relaxed, trance-like states, I'm getting hypnogogic stuff more often.)

Daydream forcing works well too, but at least for me it's harder to see an entire scene that way. I tend to see just a few (ghostly) foreground objects against a transparent background. But it was a rather odd and cool experience hugging my tulpa and getting amazing feels from her while sitting with people and waiting for food to come at a restaurant.
