Little Pebbles Psychiatry thread

Sorry I have not been on in a while. Home work got crazy. I got stuck on a test in my math class. You don't progress unless you pass the tests and if you don't progress far enough then you get a poor grade in the class. So anyway I finally got a psychiatrist that I am going to be seeing in person. I was really nervous the days I did intake. I think I am back to normal now that I managed to get back on Face Book and my friends compromised with me on things.

.

With that said I kind of am stuck with having a psychiatrist. I don't mind it, so long as the person does not put a label on me that will make my life difficult. For example worst case scenario I am labeled Skitzo if you know what I mean. Some of the people in my life think I have been wrongly labeled autistic. I have severe anxiety sometimes and I deal with it by being halfway in my wonderland.

.

I am making this thread because I want to be sure I have a place to ask questions and if no one minds have a rant every once in a blue moon. I don't like to rant, but ya know... Life is not perfect. The local counseling office is often times busy and I might not see my psychiatrist too often, but I have really mixed feelings about all this. So ya know if I could at least have a thread that would help me and my Tulpas out greatly.

you should use your progress report for asking questions over an extended period of time, ranting and just generally threads about you in the first place y'know? You can rename it if you want so it's not exclusively about your tulpas.

with all the autism stuff, apparently most people actually really appreciate labels, because it makes them feel more in control to put a word to their problems, I guess. PERSONALLY I think an awful lot of things associated with autism are just personality traits and quirks, and also things like social anxiety should just be called social anxiety. People are way too quick to put people on the autism "spectrum", which is extremely stupid.. It being a "spectrum" gives people the excuse to call all sorts of people autistic when they might only have social anxiety or some other random stuff. IMO the defining characteristic of autism is the inability to understand/appropriately respond or react to social cues. Like, that's what it is, right? But the "spectrum" goes from people with social anxiety who also don't like loud noise to people who literally get wheeled around in a wheelchair and drool constantly. "High" and "Low"-functioning autism respectively, apparently? How are those even close to the same thing?

Aaaanyways, no offense if you don't like the label, but it seems like you have a lot of traits associated with autism, so what's wrong with the label? It it 'cause people use it as an offensive term so much recently? Because it really should help keep perspective on what problems you have and help you deal with them, by knowing what there even is to deal with. People constantly find new terms to describe things, including insults, but none are particularly nice.. Everything just is the way it is, comparing something to something else doesn't change either thing. Did you know "dumb" used to refer to a mute person? And words like moron used to refer to low IQ test scores. Same way retarded meant a person whose thinking capabilities were impaired (like how "fire-retardant" substances slow/"impair" the spread of fire) but was then used as an insult just like dumb and moron, and now the most recent term used as an insult is autistic. It's only as rude as any of the other terms were, though. I know most of those words seem more generalized and less offensive now... but at the time they were popular, they weren't. I think people will always just keep looking for new ways to describe things that have more emotional impact. Which for insults, literally means they're insulting by default. I wouldn't worry about it though ok? See how even "dumb" is just a synonym for stupid now? That's because that's what people always meant when they called something dumb, but at first it was just offensive to the people it actually described.

Lucilyn is right that personal rants should probably go in your progress report. However, I can leave this thread up, if I move it to the lounge.

Moving to lounge.

Political correctness rant incoming.

It being a "spectrum" gives people the excuse to call all sorts of people autistic when they might only have social anxiety or some other random stuff.

That would be malpractice if someone did that.

Nope.

"High" and "Low"-functioning autism respectively, apparently? How are those even close to the same thing?

Because some people are just too afraid to admit that some people are just less intelligent than others.

I didn't mean to make fun of anyone or call them stupid, I meant there's literally people who are wheelchair bound who have to be pushed around and I guess they're considered "low-functioning" autism but.. I don't know how I know this. But it's probably true?

also if that's not the main defining characteristic of autism... what do you call that then? I mean there's social anxiety for fear of social situations, but I've never heard of like social ignorance or something

I get what you guys are saying. I guess this goes back to my original point. I don't want to base my success over a fake persona. In other words I don't want to live a life on the net and then live an entirely different life for people to accept me. I understand that in a work place its inappropriate and I probably would not bring this up there. On the flip side I don't want to hide or flat out lie about my Tulpas.

.

If I am going to be around my friends and or family I kind of would like them to at least be aware of them. Like you said Lucilyn I do have trouble with social ques and I sometimes misjudge what is appropriate because of that. Its aggravating enough let alone the fact that some people think I am crazy when I explain my wonderland. Also You did not offend me Lucilyn rather you pointed out some important things I need to remember. I guess I would like friends who could be close enough to accept my imagination. Perhaps even interact with it during appropriate times.

.

Tulpa001 I appreciate you leaving this thread open. I just thought that because this thread will be about my psychiatrist and my Tulpas that it would be different then a progress report.

That's the opposite of what I asked |: I looked up the definition of autism, but I asked what you would call someone who has trouble understanding/appropriately reacting to social cues... but none of that stuff. As far as I know they just get put on the autism spectrum..
