ThunderClap's Opinions on Tulpae and Their Growth

A Guide to Alleviating Doubt and Speeding Up Tulpa Growth

Disclaimer: This guide is based entirely off of my opinions and personal experiences, as well as experiences with others. It may work for a majority of people, but that does not mean it will work for everyone.

Thank you, and good luck.

Hello friends.

Quite recently, I have seen a handful of incidents of hosts not being able to believe that their tulpa exists. It is troublesome to me seeing people going through strife like that. It is even more troublesome knowing that so many people encounter this issue. Even I've had trouble dealing with the conflict of “Is my tulpa real? How do I know he/she/it is there?”

This dilemma is often very complicated and can be different for everyone. However, the method I found to overcome this dilemma is quite simple to understand, though it is not always easy to preform.

I am assuming the doubt you are having is the doubt that your tulpa exists.

If you think that your tulpa does not exist, you are wrong. Even if you only just began creation, you have already given time, thought, and most importantly belief in your tulpa. Although, now you may be saying to yourself “Well, I have been working so hard, but I have not heard a response!” or “I just don't feel my tulpa there!”

I would like to clarify that your tulpa is there, and is always there. No matter what kind of situation you may be in, your tulpa will always be there with you. From it's birth to your death, your tulpa is always with you every step of the way.

You may not have heard a response, but the response is most certainly there. All you need to do is listen hard enough for it, but you will hear it eventually. Just keep believing that the response is there.

But maybe your trouble is not exactly hearing your tulpa, but deciphering their speech from yours. The way I overcame this, was to analyze every possible response that was given. If I needed to question “Did I say that or did my tulpa say that?”, most likely the response that I questioned was the tulpa's response. If you think “That doesn't really sound like something they would say, but it could be it.” It was probably either the tulpa deviating and showing it's true feelings and responses, or it was not them at all. Which ever one feels right is the best choice, obviously.

The main point I am trying to convey is that as long as you believe in your tulpa and their existence, they are there. As long as you believe they can talk, they can talk. Your belief is the key to unlocking your tulpa's door.

I apologize if this was painful to read, my English and writing skills are not ideal.

Thoughts and comments are always appreciated.

Thank you for taking your time to read through this. I hope it helps.

Related; adapted from a question I answered on my blog recently:

Much of the time you can't tell if a response was real. Sometimes real responses will have an alien feeling to them. A thought, emotion, word, etc. that feels distinctly like you didn't originate it. Other times it doesn't feel especially odd at all. An early real response can appear exactly as a (parroted) thought from you would.

So, in general it's best to give the tulpa the benefit of the doubt, unless you intentionally generated the thought yourself. To convince yourself, consider the possibilities. A response may be either real or fake, and you may either accept or reject it. This makes for 4 possible permutations of these:

  • You accept a real response. This is great. You've just seen a sign that your tulpa is sentient and acknowledged it. This grows your tulpa and encourages them to do more of the same.
  • You accept a fake response. You are presently believing a lie, but this belief will make you see your tulpa more as a separate being from yourself, thus growing them and making them more real anyway. May slightly annoy the tulpa however. Eventually it will get harder and harder to parrot a response at all, even intentionally.
  • You reject a real response. This hinders growth because you're seeing a response that was not from you as being from you, making it harder to distinguish them in the future, and making you see your tulpa as less separate from you. Also consider how the tulpa feels: They went to all the effort of reaching out and sending you a response, only to have it ignored. They might feel less like doing it again so soon.
  • You reject a fake response. This does nothing at all. You've identified something that is just you, as being just you.

You can't control whether the responses are real or fake, but you can control whether you accept or reject them. If you accept, you will either get larger progress and happy tulpa, or smaller progress and slightly annoyed tulpa. If you reject, you will either get bad result and frustrated tulpa, or nothing at all. Which would you choose?

Rejecting responses, real or fake, makes you doubt yourself more, which makes you less likely to accept a real response when it comes. This gets you into a cycle I'm all too familiar with. The more you reject, the more you doubt. The more you doubt, the more you reject. Eventually you'll find yourself questioning responses that would otherwise be obviously real, like shutting off a headache seconds after telling the tulpa it can't be done. Even out-loud speech can be doubted, since with a little effort you can parrot that. Once you're deep enough into that doubting mindset, nothing will fully convince you that your tulpa is truly sentient.

This is something I've been thinking about recently as well. I usually take any stray thoughts or sentences that pop into my mind as my tulpa trying to communicate with me. However, I'm worried that if I accept all of these responses, it will lead to me creating a servitor.

"The main point I am trying to convey is that as long as you believe in your tulpa and their existence, they are there. As long as you believe they can talk, they can talk."

ITT: Belief is magic.

You've got a good point buried in this topic, but the approach that if you believe they will exist is silly. No basis in neurology. If you believe that tulpas are nothing more than random speech, and aren't actually sentient? Sure. Believing that it's talking to you may very well make that happen. But when we're talking actual tulpas, a being that is sentient and thinking, not so much.

Reading this I think you're only saying one thing and that's that "Your tulpa is always there". You might consider that sound advice, I personally don't particularly, but either way I don't think it constitutes a guide in its own right. You could flesh it out or get it put in GD or someone else's guide somewhere I guess.

EDIT: I guess I approve for Tips. Your grammar is bad though.

Approved for Tips, although some parts of the advice is a bit too strongly motivational and less based on fact that I'm very inclined to just keep it as a Blank Vote until the author edits it a bit.

Your initial belief in your tulpa does get your unconscious mind to start building them, but to say that all a tulpa is is just belief belittles what a tulpa is.

> The way I overcame this, was to analyze every possible response that was given.

This, on the other hand, is decent advice. Being mindful of your own mind and your tulpa will eventually let you perceive them better, and as soon as you start getting emotions or if you find that they have some sort of person-like "essence" feel associated with their thoughts, you'll have a very easy time communicating since you'll just implicitly know your thoughts from theirs.

This isn't really a tip. It's really more of, I dunno. Food for thought and motivational stuff based on how you see tuppers, so to me this is more General Discussion. It has some good parts, but still, not anything I'd even call a tip, much less a guide.
