Default  Servitor, Tulpa, or Somewhere in Between?
Once I complete Espeon, I had the idea of creating another entity, but I'm having a bit of difficulty deciding what exactly to call him. I already have it planned out he is to be mainly a servitor to use to access specific parts of my memory, keep track of my health, maybe act as a GPS in areas I've been too, but don't fully remember my way around, etc. The thing is however, I want him to be more than just a soulless robot, kinda like the computer from Dexter's Lab. I kinda had the idea already, but reading about glitch's Enigma made me want to do it more

I'm thinking his name will be Vox (how original) and he will be in the form of a kind of wristwatch-computer capable of creating holograms, communicating verbally (in a voice similar to Tony Stark's computer in Iron man), and overlaying a HUD. The best term I can come up with to describe this is a pseudo-tulpa since he'd be a somewhat sentient tool specifically for my use. Thoughts? Suggestions? Advice on servitors in general?

A tulpa, from what I can tell, is a servitor with sentience and will. If you want Vox to be even slightly sentient, you're dealing with a tulpa.

Sounds interesting. Wonder how you'll go about this.

You are quite an interesting man. When I fist read your approach to make an Espeon, I was surprised (it's interesting to see someone trying to go as far as they can, but being satisfied with the things they achieve, even if it's impossible to reach the end).

About this, well, first of all, Tulpa and Servitors are just words. If what you want to do is something that doesn't fit these words, then don't worry, and call it whatever you want. On the other hand, I don't think there is such a thing like semi-sentience. For example, is a computer sentient? They answer to stimuli (imput), and, according to their way of thinking (processing) they give you an answer (output). But they can't do things by their own. They can't change their minds. A sentient being can. So, the question is if what you wanna do is sentient or not. Do you want it to do things even if you don't ask for it to? Then it's sentient. You don't, then it isn't.

Making a servitor is like making a tulpa, but you can skip a few steps, or give them less time (personality is optional, but since you want it to be able to talk, it may be necessary; you can give less time to visualization, but you must be sure about what you are going to impose; etc.).

RE: Servitor, Tulpa, or Somewhere in Between?
Basically, I want Vox to appear as a sort of black wristband with a monitor on it and a little microphone and speaker built in. He'll be able to pull up data on the screen as well as project holograms over it or in front of my vision, whichever is more convenient or easily understood. He'll track certain things on his own like different aspects of my health, where I am in relation to my surroundings (provided I've been there before obviously), and time of day and such, but only if I call upon him requesting such information will he announce or show it through hologram or HUD.

I guess since he'd technically be an advanced AI with simulated personality and would provide information on his own even if I didn't ask for it (but would given the context, i.e. I'm running late to somewhere and he pulls up the fastest route to the destination) he would be a servitor with pseud-sentience. I think that about sums it up.

And you're right, DW, they are just words. I would like to have a term to use, though, like Espeon will/does know it's a tulpa. If Vox or anything else I may make in the future wants to know, I don't want to lie to it or just not have a fitting name. Like I don't want to go creating Vox and just call him a tool all the time. I want more for him than that. Then again, I believe if a servitor is created properly and for non-malicious intents or motives that clash with your own morals it could live with the fact it's basically a tool/slave. I don't know, it seems like a bit of a touchy subject where they're concerned.

>HUD servitor
>not just making it look like Samus' visor in the Metroid Prime games
>dat scan visor
>dat 3D minimap
>dat energy meter
>dat everything

Seriously though, the key thing with a servitor is to parrot its responses and make sure it doesn't deviate. If you do that it won't go all GLaDOS on you someday and try to drive you insane or something. And I already attempted something like this and can confirm it works.

Awesome. And if Vox ever tries to release a deadly neurotoxin, I'll be ready. I've already got a simple killswitch command set even now before I'm anywhere near starting on him. I actually was inspired by Enigma a bit after I read about her.

Actually I'm glad I've found this article because I'm working on that topic as well... I have 3 tulpas; one lives inside of me, its a purple flower which roots are at my hipotalamus and the flower itself blooms in my forehead every time I need to collect information such has my math class or a really beutiful poet I've read.
The others are two humanoid white quartz like creatures. They're intelligent? Yeah.. Are they sentient? No... No feelings, at least I didn't programmed it. But one of them seems to be generating feelings by himself. Like a natural procces. He is inspired by the the entorage type autoreivs of Ergo Proxy. Also the companions type. The other one, which haven't show any signs of having feelings is also inspired by the autoreivs but this time in the Knights type. They work pretty well, and my advice will be that you could pay attention to the act of program it, it will do as you please when you activate it.

I think you mean hypothalamus, and this thread dates back from 2012. Nester doesn't come here anymore and his mind went absolutely nuts. But hey, that's interesting.

I wish you luck with this experiment, it sounds interesting. I'm been meaning to experiement with a similar idea of a "smart" servitor. I haven't really interacted with the servitors in my wonderland yet, but I made them with a personiality. Vox could be interesting in seeing where sentience and servitude converge, if they do.

Damn, I was planning to make my tulpas form Espeon.
Ah well, we are still not sure about form anyway

This sounds very intresting. I look forward to hearing about the results.
