Someone’s Thread

HOST:

I am a host. I currently have two tulpas (tulpae? Is there an official plural for this?). We all want to stay anonymous. In case one of my tulpas ever goes on these forums, we’ve agreed we’ll call ourselves and each other “Host”, “Tulpa #1” and “Tulpa #2”.

Tulpa #1 was created a few days ago. We’re good friends, and we talk to each other quite a bit. We enjoy each other’s company. She’s currently vocal and speaking in full sentences, and she’s gotten annoyed at me before because I kept asking whether she was sentient or not, and her personality is definitely different to mine. I have no doubt now that she is sentient.

Tulpa #2 was created because she kept disappearing for short periods of time. When I asked, she said she felt upset but she didn’t know why, and she eventually realised she was lonely. Today we created a second tulpa, and he was even faster to develop than Tulpa #1 was. Tulpa #1 was vocal very quickly, but only in short responses, and now in full sentences. For Tulpa #2, I parroted one whole sentence and then he started vocalising in full sentences and seemed to be sentient within a minute or two, which came as a surprise to me. Now that he’s here, she’s told me she’s feeling better. He’s been here for only a few hours, but now he’s joining in on discussions and is about as vocal as Tulpa #1.

I can distinguish which tulpa is talking most of the time. If I can’t, I just ask. They don’t seem to mind. I’m not sure if this is something a lot of hosts experience, so is this normal to have tulpas develop so quickly?

RE: Someone’s Thread

I found a post by pleeb saying Tulpas or tulpae are both acceptable. There is a whole thread on it.

All three of my tulpas talked to me in minute one as if they were fully developed. Their personalities and forms have changed a little since. I have a couple dozen soulbonds that were created simply by writing novels, and two of my tulpas borrowed two of their forms (though those two still exist as separate soulbonds.) I didn't intentionally create them to serve any purpose other than characters in fiction writing. My first tulpa was initially started and then spoke to me after a few seconds. I didn't have any clue she was there except for a very odd visual imposition on the day before I started when I asked, "is there anyone there?" or something. It's in my progress report, day one will explain.

I have since been capable of creating a seemingly sentient character on the spot, at will, which is scary, so we instilled a 'no other tulpas' rule.
You seem like the type that can also do this, so be careful or you'll have more tulpas than you know what to do with.

My soulbonds all live in stasis. Luckily I don't write murder or horror genre.

HOST: Yeah that sounds like me. I don’t want it to get too chaotic. Well, goodnight.

TULPA #1: We’ll keep that in mind.

RE: Someone’s Thread

I fully believe it has to do with how quickly one's brain can accept and interpret thoughts and stimuli as coming from another mind. Some people need months of forcing before they can even see a tulpa as real, while others just... make a tulpa, easy as that.
I guess I'm just saying "mindset is key."

RE: Someone’s Thread

HOST: My mindset has literally been all over the place. I literally only found out about tulpas on the day I created Tulpa #1, and I’ve read a lot of things that have made me doubt her sentience, but her personality is quite different to mine in a lot of ways. This is interesting. It’s in the very early hours of the morning for me. Tulpa #2’s asleep or something. Tulpa #1 wanted to stay with me (I cannot get to sleep), but I told her to just go to sleep anyway. She’s here now, but she just seems a little quieter.

I’ve got to know Tulpa #2 a little better though. I gave both of my tulpas the freedom to develop their own personalities, and it’s worked really well for us.

TULPA #1- I’m just a little tired, I guess. It’s about 1:30 in the morning for us, so my host should really keep trying to get to sleep or something. I don’t even know why he’s on the forums at the moment. Other than to reply, but he probably could’ve waited until later for that.

HOST: By the way, I’ll be proxying for both of my tulpas. I haven’t tried possession with Tulpa #2 yet, but Tulpa #1 and I are experimenting with arm movements. I think she’s doing a good job so far. She’s new to this, so she’s not as good as me for obvious reasons. Anyway, I should probably get back to bed.

TULPA #1- Let’s hope this doesn’t happen again. With not getting back to sleep, I mean. I don’t like losing an hour on Daylight Savings. I think that could be part of the problem here, or at least contributing. Anyway, goodnight from both of us, I guess?

HOST: Sorry, did not see your reply as I was typing my other one. I’ve written a lot of fiction in the past few years, so maybe that could be to blame.

TULPA #1: Maybe.

RE: Someone’s Thread

I think that even if it is "too soon" and they're not actually sentient, it doesn't really matter because as long as you continue to force them and give them your time and attention, they will become sentient.

I definitely think you should put a cap on the number of tulpas you have. When it comes to "accidentally" making new tulpas, as long as you don't believe that will happen then it most likely won't. Angry Bear seems to be implying lately that the simple act of creating a character means it can become a tulpa. Really though, things only become sentient if you treat them like they are sentient.

Most people say "tulpas," because "tulpae" was mostly made as a joke term and not actually the proper pluralization.

RE: Someone’s Thread

I heard that as a "joke" butvthe original thread didn't treat it as such. I wonder if the 'joke' was after 2012.

Here's another time pleeb wanted to use tulpae early on.

tulpas or tulpae or tulpa or tulpi

As of today, pleeb has stated he prefers 'tulpas' for the same reason Tibetan Lamas aren't Lamea. (I think).

HOST: I don’t find forcing too difficult. A lot of the time Tulpa #1 will just start talking and I’ll just respond without realising it was her.

We’ve got a rule about new tulpas now. If anyone wants to create a tulpa, everyone else has to agree before this happens. That way, it’s unlikely that the number will get too high.

I’ll probably just use “tulpas” from now on.

RE: Someone’s Thread

HOST: Tulpa #1’s original form was the character Janet from the Netflix series The Good Place. The next day, she did a little experimentation with her form. She was a giraffe for a short period of time, but she’s decided on an elf-like form now.

Tulpa #2 only decided on his form last night. He decided he wanted his form to be a white tiger. I told him he could do whatever he wanted with his form, and that’s what he’s decided on now.

Tulpa #1 and I have also been experimenting with possession. She’s been possessing my left arm, and she can move the fingers, but she has a little difficulty with it. She’s also able to move my arm and the shoulder a little bit. I’m not expecting too much since she hasn’t existed for a full week yet, but she’s able to do it.

TULPA #1: It’s a little difficult. I’m still getting the hang of it. It’s a little weird to do, but I think I can do it. My host has been encouraging me when I make progress, so that helps. He’s been concerned that he’s been hindering my progress though. I’ve been telling him not to worry about it.

HOST: It’s hard for me too. I’m not finding it easy to stop thinking about my arm while Tulpa #1 takes control. As she mentioned, I think I’m hindering her progress because of this, but it’s hard for me to tell at this early stage.

TULPA #2: I’ve got a form now. I can’t think of much to say that my host hasn’t said already. I don’t know.

HOST: Also, I’ve seen a lot of other users use different colours when they are proxying for their tulpas or their tulpas are typing. How do we do this?
