Telling when deviation is occuring

Recommended Posts

I've started tulpaforcing in the last couple weeks and things are going well so far, for the most part. However, there's one thing that has me worried I might be unintentionally screwing up: Deviation. This topic, talked about in pretty much every guide made, seems simple to understand: Tulpas may change over time, and it's healthy to let this occur. The problem I'm having is that I have no idea how to tell if deviation is occuring.

My question is, when do you know deviation is occuring, and how should you handle it? So far, I've had occasional moments where I'm imagining my tulpa and her form changes to something else entirely or changes color or something similar. I have no idea if this is supposed to be deviation or if it's just my mind wandering, and in all these situations I just resumed imagining the original form after swatting away the random thoughts. I'm not sure if I'm holding back deviation or just getting my mind back on track, so any advice would be incredibly helpful.

When they deviate you should just let it happen, usually. Basically any change in their appearance is considered deviation. Also it has to be spontaneous, if it's just you fudging details that's not deviation.

You'll know it's happening when there's unexpected changes that you didn't really plan on. The best you can do is let it run its course, and try not to stifle it. If you keep taking it back and it keeps reverting to the alternate form/color or whatever, let it keep that form or color and see how it turns out.

Makes sense, thanks. However, every time it happens there's a new form/color/etc. she takes. Is it a matter of her saying 'I'll take any form but this one', or can neither of us make up our mind? (Though this question may be situational)

Also, since I couldn't really find any examples, what're the downsides of stifling deviation and can they occur if you're stifling it unintentionally?

For the first question: Who knows, she could just be outright rejecting her current form. Just let her keep swapping through all of these forms and colors till she stops at one.

For the second question: Perceived negatives from stifling deviation are the tulpa not being satisfied with its form or just plain disliking it. I mean, you could force a form upon a tulpa that they don't want, but that of course doesn't sound very pleasant for either party, does it?
