The Uncomfortable Effort of Thinking

I absolutely love this video.

You guys may or may not have heard me complaining about my mind, or rather the part of my mind that isn't me, doing things automatically or against my conscious will. And this is normally not a problem for most people, because they don't apply their conscious will to the things they do automatically. As the video explains, that's not necessarily a bad thing. My habit of thinking consciously more often isn't necessarily a good thing. But you could say that when I started switching, I noticed another unconscious mind - "Gun" - who liked to do and think things without my permission. It's just who I am, but this bugged me. "Gun" wasn't as perfect as it thought it was, and I noticed a lot of times where that part of my mind wanted to do or think things that, when I thought about them consciously, were obviously not efficient or productive. And yet "Gun" persists - does everything it can to try and avoid me actually thinking, in fact. So that might help explain the weirdness when I've mentioned effectively quarreling with our own brain. Assuming you watched the video first, anyways.

I also think this is just a really, really important concept more people should be aware of. Even if they don't bother to think consciously more often, they'll at least know they're being a form of lazy. That's good enough for me, you can choose to be lazy if you want, but you have to choose. Probably on a case-by-case basis, I don't recommend fighting with your own brain as a hobby.

If you'd like to apply it to tulpamancy - "I want to force and spend more time with my tulpa... but I don't, I guess."

Now you know what's going on. Gonna do something about it?

Preconscious.. like thoughts before they become conscious? It might've sounded like that's what I meant, because I referred to knowing of unconscious thoughts' existence. But no, I definitely mean unconscious ones. It's usually more of a "catching the mind in the process" thing than directly observing thoughts. For example, thinking that it's time to shower and feeling "I" don't want to and that it's too much effort. First, that's not even what I consciously decided I think, and second, it's not an efficient or productive thought. That sort of thing has quite a stranglehold on Lumi because of his motivation issues, he's always had a hard time fighting against the lazy decisions of "Gun". Not me though, I just get annoyed when our brain does that in the first place. I don't let it affect me.

Even then, I can't stop it from affecting the others, and that's probably the only reason it happening still bothers me.

Nah, I'm researching terminology. Preconscious and unconscious are Freud's two non-conscious modes of thought. I'm having trouble figuring out the modern usage. A lot of people think the unconscious mind doesn't exist at all, and is a major mistake of psychoanalytic theory. The preconscious thoughts are those that you are not consciously aware of but could have been if you focused on them.
