Tulpa Anxiety

Since I have been here I have seen some posts that seem to indicate the host person is experiencing significant anxiety about the creation process and the status of their tulpa. I have seen it several times now, mostly in the chat rooms. It is part of the reason why I feel there are those too young or emotionally unprepared to make a tulpa. No, I don't have examples as that would be rude to point specific people out.

I want to say this to anyone feeling any measure of anxiety about making a tulpa: If this is a source of anxiety for you, stop! Don't make a tulpa. Go find real people to interact with and totally forget about it.

Those of you with established tulpas that are causing anxiety for you or emotional distress (wtf? really?), either fix it somehow, quickly, or do the unthinkable to protect yourself. Do not create your own mental/emotional disturbance with this stuff. Life is too short and there are too many real world things to worry about.

I completely agree with this post.

OMG! With ten tulpas, you would be the person to know! I imagine you must be able to find that separation from their emotions and any issues and conflicts they might have and be impartial, kind and patient. Like an ideal parent would be I suppose.

Your beliefs influence your perception of reality. In your own mind this is much more true, though still more true in physical reality than people realize. If you doubt your tulpa is sentient, you don't fully believe your tulpa is sentient. If you don't fully believe your tulpa is sentient, you believe your tulpa may-or-may-not be sentient, and your reality will reflect that. You will get signs that show they are maybe-maybe-not sentient.

People treat this like having a baby, like there's rules and rights and wrongs. Like they need to read a New Parent's Guide to make sure they don't end up hurting their child.

As it turns out, tulpas are entirely in your mind and have access to every resource in it that you have, unless you choose to limit them. And everything in your mind is dependent on belief to exist. Your thoughts are creative(constructive), and there are no rules or rights or wrongs. What you believe, and what you practice believing to turn into reality for yourself, is up to you. There's no tulpa section in our brains that detects whether you're doing something right or not, and a tulpa won't die or grow corrupt because you didn't know you were doing something wrong.

Well, unless that something wrong was believing they would die or turn corrupt, even subconsciously (the result of doubt or weak beliefs). But again, that's up to you, not any rule in physical reality. It's a subjective phenomenon and should be treated as such.

Hi! I'm Lumi, host of Reisen, Tewi, Flandre and Lucilyn.

Everyone deserves to love and be loved. It's human nature.

My tulpas and I have a Q&A thread, which was the first (and largest) of its kind. Feel free to ask us about tulpamancy stuff there.

@Reisen

I am in danger of becoming your groupie and following you around kissing your butt on every post. But honestly, you are starting to become my sempai in some ways. LOL The more I read the more I like what you are saying.

Your own beliefs create your own reality? Well, that does make a lot of sense actually.

I have been known to tell my students at the high school "Life is 10% what happens to you, your challenges and your opportunities, and 90% your attitude about it all." Attitude and beliefs DO shape your reality. I have seen persons so dark and cynical, they expect only bad things from the world. They make it a self fulfilling prophesy most of the time. It is selective perception and expectations.

I think the same thing can be applied to something so based on belief as tulpas.

We appreciate your tact, Mistgod.

It seems to me that most people begin the creation of a tulpa because there is something that will be beneficial to them in the practice. Whether the individual views this as a mental discipline akin to meditation, with associated benefits for mental faculties, or the creation of a separate consciousness with the attendant potential for companionship. If instead of this perceived benefit, the process results in self doubt, and anxiety, disturbing to the individual who began the process, then the situation helps nobody.

The members or our system have always (or for a long time, at least) held that it is important to be emotionally prepared for a process like this and in the absence of such preparation, perhaps a delay in commencement would be advisable. None of us enjoy seeing someone tormented by a process that they believed would be positive.

I do believe that it is possible for someone to be in a place developmentally or emotionally that would make it less than beneficial to proceed.

Agreed. Look at it this way. If you are someone who views this process as an interesting mental discipline, then you have a responsibility to yourself to not destroy your own quality of life over it. If you view the process as the creation of a separate consciousness within your mind, you have a responsibility to them. What would it be like to be born into a mind that had been perfectly healthy before you arrived, but as a result of your presence was now riven with anxiety and self doubt? Should anyone be required to be born into that knowledge?

During the development of my tulpae, I felt a certain amount of anxiety. It was usually as a result of being unable to make them "real" enough quickly enough, and not being sure that what I was trying to do was even possible. This passed in time. However, I know that had it taken it's toll on my mental wellbeing, everyone concerned would have wanted me to give it a rest, or stop.

This is consistent with our experience.

Yes, with ten tulpas, you really do need these kind of traits if you want it to work. But an ideal parent? Haha, no way! Not after the things we've done. >_< That said, I see your point, I do have somewhat of a parental role with some of them. Though honestly, some of them play the role of mother for me. >_>

Anyway, with anxiety, it's not so much something I notice with me (I have more doubts with my own abilities), but what I see a lot in the tulpa community. I have the view that most people shouldn't have a tulpa, simply because I don't think they're ready to have one. It's just I see the majority of people move on with their lives, so it's probably not something they should have done in the first place.

I have 10 tulpas, but I'm only actively working on Reah, my first tulpa currently.
