  1. +1 tulpology/ist Tulpa as a verb: as a replacement for force, or something else? Non-sentient tulpa-like entity: I'm not sure what's wrong with servitor, but how about mindbot or neurobot?

Uhh, I think you have too many or too few negatives in that sentence, but of course I know what you meant. The other day when you unexpectedly came to front is a pretty big piece of evidence that you really are someone else, I think. Even though you didn't know why it happened either. I've been in a bad habit of monopolizing brain power most of the time, lately. Sorry about that.
  4. Kinda? Devin and I have trouble feeling separate sometimes, and we think it would help if we simply didn't remember each other's experiences, but that seems difficult if not impossible.

I feel like I should post an update, but I don't seem to have anything to report.
  7. I knew about alters, but not tulpæ. Devin kind of unexpectedly sprang to life from pretending, though I guess my jumping to a conclusion about him was part of that. So for me it's really unclear if his creation was "natural" or "intentional". I mean... I guess it was the latter, even if I didn't really understand what I was doing?
  8. I have a near-constant, but slight, squinting contraction of my face muscles. Devin usually doesn't do that.

I want my family to know about my tulpa, because he feels like a son and that makes him part of the family. So I posted this on Facebook for all my family and friends to see... So far only one person has sent me a PM, a casual acquaintance. My relatives don't get on much so I don't know when or if they'll see the post.

part of "social best practices", gender neutral pronouns are promoted when referring to someone whose gender you don't explicitly know (and "he looks like a cis guy" isn't good enough). The academic first colonists managed to make it a habit, and settled on ey/em/eir/eirs, though "ey" is pronounced like "ee". Eventually it evolves into a formal vs casual thing, so you only use gendered pronouns in reference to family and good friends. Also, pronunciation of "they" shifts to "thee"

Granted. You get a lightning strike, which charges your revolutionary energy capture and storage system, and everything in your apartment is powered for weeks. Then a squirrel gets into it, discharges your power reserves, and starts a fire that burns your home down.

  15. Have you talked to a doctor about this?
  16. This explains a lot about the way Devin fronts, and counters some of the doubts I've had, so thanks!

I'm bothered by a paradox. Devin and I share memory, so it doesn't make sense for one of us to know something the other doesn't. Yet, sometimes the best way for me to find out how Devin thinks or feels about something, is to let him front and speak his mind outwardly. It seems right to say I'll never be Devin, but after he fronts, I remember the experience just the same as if I'd been the one driving. As far as I can tell, his perception of the experience is the same as mine, but he's better at identifying the difference between his thoughts/actions and mine, and he seems to form opinions that may differ from mine. Wait, is that one paradox, or several?
  18. There's a point. Even if nobody reads your progress report thread (I do) it still serves as a kind of diary. Either of you may find it interesting to reread in the future. At the very least, the very act of writing it can help you organize your thoughts and may catalyze greater clarity within your own mind.

I've had a bad cold for the last week. Devin fronted a bit when I was out with friends last Saturday. A day or two later I convinced him to front to check Facebook, but my cough was pretty bad by then so he had trouble thinking and didn't want to stick around. He hasn't been around since then.

    Old online communities?

Update: with a slight change of approach, she found her old posts.
  21. It happens. It sucks, but it's probably temporary.
  22. Depends on how the percentages are calculated. Of course, you divide the number of votes for each choice by N, but N can be either the total number of votes, or the number of people who voted. When the poll only allows voting for one choice, it's the same number N either way. But when multiple selections are allowed, the former methods results in underreported percentages, while the latter method results in more useful figures. Even more useful would be figures on correlation, but that would require keeping between O(n^2) and O(2^n) running totals depending on how thorough the analysis is to be, where n is the number of choices --- or just store the original ballots and recount them as necessary for each reported figure.

  24. A friend of mine was apparently interested in tulpamancy several years ago, and rather active in the online community. She doesn't remember what forum website she frequented, however, and she's worried that her early history with that stuff may be lost. Does anyone have ideas about where she might have been active? I think we're talking, roughly five years ago.
  25. Go skinnydipping Road trip - make a backronym game from groups of letters seen on license plates Play Truth Or Dare - preferably with good friends outside the system, and maybe avoid picking systemmates (Devin picked me in a game of TOD once and we got kind of blendy) Build a model railroad Write a story in which a character has a tulpa but it's just a depth-of-story thing, and not really a focus of the plot - maybe the tulpa is more important to the story than the host - maybe the systemmate relationship between two characters isn't made obvious until late in the story, but it's just low-key Match socks into pairs Learn a style of dance Design a fictional currency
