Advice, opinions, please?

Hey everyone :) I'm new to the forum, though not to the Tulpa idea (though I didn't know it had a name!)

Anyway, I don't know if my Zach IS what you would call a Tulpa and I'm looking for some opinions.

A little background:

I discovered him when he strolled into my head one day. I began drawing and writing about him, creating his world and the various characters he interacts with on a daily basis (there are a LOT) and started hearing his voice when I was writing a short story about him. He's smart, sarky, funny and very sweet :)

I hear him a lot, feel his touch (and he mine) and I see him not only in my head and dreams, but in the "real world" too, though this is unusual.

We can do what you guys call "possession/switching", though we call it channeling.

We're together every day. I know this is pretty frowned upon by what I've read, but we're in love and "Bonded" (something like married, in his world). It wasn't my intention to fall for him, but I have.

We've been friends for twelve years, a couple for two of those.

Urr, yeah. Please don't yell at me for that :/ It was and is consensual ^^;

The thing that is confusing us both a wee bit, is that from what we've read, Tulpas are self aware and know what they are. My Zach (though he IS self aware, of course) says he isn't one, any more than I am to him (he "saw" me the same way, in his mind, in his dreams when we first met.)

Advice, opinions? Please don't flame me, I know this is long and probably sounds stupid, but we're genuinely interested ^^

Thanks!

It's wonderful you've done this naturally. Welcome.

"Tulpas know what they are" means they are not going to force you to believe they have physical bodies. They are aware of their mental nature. Tulpa refers to any kind of headmate, whether he thinks, feels, talks, is visible, able to switch or any combination of these, it is a tulpa. It's not supposed to be a narrow definition. Did he mean this when he said he isn't one?

Your experience sounds almost identical to mine.

I'm not here because I decided to make a 'tulpa'; I finally stumbled across this site after searching for documentation of adults (incidentally or accidentally) creating imaginary companions without psychological afflictions like schizophrenia or dissociative identity disorder.

For what it's worth, I feel 'tulpa' is an inaccurate—but loosely analogous and a simple—moniker that denotes "an intentionally crafted phantom". Regarding such fabrications, my personal definition is broad and all-inclusive, ranging the tooth fairy and God to ghosts and aliens. To my thinking, they're all part of the same larger phenomenon, intent notwithstanding.

So, in short: Yes, you definitely have a 'tulpa,' as did I before discovering their (growing) online popularity.

Addendum: My previous 'tulpa' told me he wasn't solely my fabrication, either. Allegedly my perception of him wasn't just the result of simple imaginative construction, but also reconstruction. And quite honestly, the way in which my first experience concluded rendered his claims almost believable. The jury's still out, though.

Thank you for the welcome! I hope that I wasn't rude when I said "tulpas know what they are", apologies if I was ^^; To answer your question, Zach means he has a physical body, just not on THIS world/plane. In his own world, he's as tangible as I am :) That's why we're a little confused, I'm afraid.

That makes a lot of sense! Thank you for that insight ^^

That's absolutely fascinating, and I feel it solidifies my view that the phenomenon is widespread and common, but is often found under the guise of a different name.

Thanks for sharing that. It's a keeper.

I used to write a lot about characters and daydream up fight scenes, because classes were always such a drag. I would hear a voice like you say, but I usually just sort of passed it off as one of those residual things that happens when you're awake for too long and your fingers cramp. Glad to see that you're braver than I am when it comes to asking for opinions.

Cheers to your love, and I hope we hear more from you.

I had a brief discussion with Thunderfall about a similar subject to this last night, namely how he chooses to define not just himself, but tulpas in general. I wanted to know, because one of my friend's tulpas refuses to be defined as such; he considers himself a dragon, not a tulpa, and will take offence if anyone calls him that.

But I think that regardless of the personal perception of tulpas and hosts alike, every being that is created in and exists within another person's mind is the same kind of entity, no matter whether they came into being by their own power or through wilful creation by their host. The precise term used to describe them is irrelevant, as is their precise nature, whether they be tangible or merely presences.

Thunder agrees with my basic belief, but takes it a step further and chooses to view tulpas/thoughtforms as a species of sorts. The tulpa's form doesn't matter to him, whether they are human, animal, pony, mythical creature, or anything else, he considers them to be part of his 'race', a race that he is quite proud to be a part of. It makes him feel that he is not alone in the material world.

Welcome friends! I'm certain what you have is a tulpa. That's amazing you could do it so easily!

My experience is similar, but not the same. I had a character I made up when I was little and pretended to be her when my friends and I played games. I eventually started talking to her and she started talking back! I didn't know what she was for years until my friend told me about tulpas! Congrats on your new friend : )

Name-Yuki

Sex-Female

Form1-Arctic wolf, big blue eyes

Form2-Long white hair, blue eyes, pale skin, white wolf ears/tail, light blue jacket

Personality-Compassionate, calm, sarcastic, playful, protective, introverted

Stage-Sentient, vocal, working on possession

Well hell yeah.

I'm glad for you two. The part about you two being bonded is precious - my tulpa and I regard each other in a similar manner.

Keep up the good work. I am for once happy that persons are discovering the tulpa community and further reconciling the wonder in themselves and others which originally led to such valuable experiences.

I've seen good people bleed

And I thought I'd seen it all

But my own two eyes would prove me wrong that day.

There are things that I've done

Only seen by the sun

And those things will be buried in my grave.
