Age limit

I want to make a thread discussing the age limit here.

Since the beginning ive felt dodgy letting kids post here. Most of them dont have any idea what they are getting into (I saw a 14 year old taking about auras today for god sake) and they are at to tender of an age. I dont think making a tulpa is good for them

Ive been seeing 12-16 year olds posting here and I just dont feel its right for the community to be helping people who are not yet fully aware adults to make this kind of commitment.

I think we should impose a 18+ limit on posting here. We cant stop them from making tulpas anyway, but at least we cant be held to blame if something goes wrong.

Another issue is, and this is in the nicest way possible, no one here can be trusted to give advice to a child. We are all to biased in favor of making tulpas that no one is going to tell someone asking "Dont make a tulpa" unless theres an extreme problem. At least with an adult they can take the evidence at hand and make an informed choice. A kid will just go "This looks cool and a guy on the Internet says its cool so lets go!"

Just saying, I think its a good idea.

I just joined this forum yesterday so I probably shouldn't have much say in this kind of thing, but I'm going to throw in my two cents anyway.

I agree with you that young people shouldn't be making tulpae, and that anyone considering it should wait until they're 18 (or at least out of High School). It's a serious responsibility and a lifetime commitment that seriously impacts daily life.

But the fact of the matter is that kids are going to do it, and I would argue that the kind of kids that would come here seeking to make a tulpa are the ones that need guidance the most. Therefore, in any thread with an underage tulpamancer we should be encouraging them to wait AND give them the advice they're asking for. We can't stop them from making a commitment they're not ready for, but we CAN help prevent them screwing up their lives and the lives of their tulpae.

I found out about tulpamancy when I was around 14 or so. But the difference was that, even though I did not consider myself mature, I understood the huge commitment it takes, and since this young age, I have been through a LOT with my tulpa.

I do not recommend ANYONE under the age of 16 years old at the very least (and even then, but 16 because you tend to really become just a bit more mature then and more aware of this sense of responsibility) to make a tulpa, or even consider making one for that matter. I was young, and my tulpa and I both learned a lot because we grew together. IT made our bond even closer to the point of co-dependency.

A kid has so much to learn at the young age of 14, it's crazy. A tulpa only implies extra work, mental exhaustion in exchange for a friend in your head that you will have to provide extra care to. This is my experience, people might have had something different. But if it happened with me, it can happen with other people who are just your average kid online.

People will lie on the internet. When I was 14 I pretended to be 18 and people believed me, this was on debate forums and discussion boards, I was treated like a 18 years. Point is that people can and will lie, you don't know who is doing what over the internet and people lie pathologically

A posting limit will not help.

What will help is more emphasis on how much of a big deal a tulpa can be, showing responsibility to kids tends to scare them away and you can make a differentiation between who is ready and who is not, and who thinks he is, and who thinks he isn't. We need something like Kiah's section in his guide that explains why not to make a tulpa.

I for one think that tulpas should not exist commonly, it's something that may or may not happen, but we should work, as a community on making the youth understand how much of a big deal this is.

When I was a kid, I didn't care about 'companion for life', nobody put emphasis on that because we had no communities. We can make a change.

In reponse to the "They are going to do it anyway so we might as well help them" thing.

You dont tell someone its a bad idea to rob a bank and then agree to act as the getaway driver because they are going to do it anyway. If they do it anyway its their own choice but we shouldn't be involved in helping.

I personally think that we should show them the cons (that are various and show up at certain stages of development once they get out of the delusion that 'tulpas best friends tulpas best sexdolls tulpas are just imagination') and the pros, and show them why the cons are more important than the pros at their age. Youngsters aged of 13-14 years old, well, 90% of them have zero sense of responsibility, and with due respect, this generation is completely fucked when it comes to mentality and mindsets over the sense of duty. If this phenomenon was more popularized people would seek two make tulpas for the stupidest of reasons. I personally regard my tulpa as the ideal companion I was always looking for; full of defaults and also full of stuff that makes me happy and content with who she is.

MonsterKid, if you bother looking up this forum's history, you will find that a lot of users have met desperation and disappointment near the end. Dane... let's not speak of Dane. Jimmy... you know what Jimmy did. Jamie did some shit because his tulpa 'left' supposedly, and most other users procrastinated a LOT and spent more time circlejerking than doing anything productive. Fede has a completely different view of tulpas (and I respect Fede for all the things he said and got to talk to him in chat a few times, good guy, makes a lot of sense)(and yes to you fede fanboys I did quote Fede so go ahead and tell him lol). Point is that when you look back at this historical recollection, a lot of people who were uncertain of the path they were taking ended up with disappointment, some people even losing some sanity, some people even confusing this too much with imagination. Not only speaking of age but of overall maturity (and with due respect this community isn't the brightest).

I think that regardless of age, more emphasis should be put on the responsibility and I daresay the burden of making a tulpa and taking GOOD care of it, showing people the possible outcome of this or that mentality and mindset. I partly agree with Beef, if we cannot stop it, we should at least do something about it. My stance is that showing the cons, putting emphasis on those cons is primordial because, well, we're showing those young kids and immature folks (no offense to anyone) a different side of tulpamancy. Ever heard of Nekos? Nekos is a young girl who made FNAF tulpas and they ended up with quite the trouble from what I heard. Yeah. Nekos is 14 or so now, she was in the chatrooms a lot earlier this year.

It's not only age, it's also the maturity, the mindset, the understanding of responsibility. I get up everyday knowing what kinds of burden I am going to have to bear with, and what kind of responsibility falls on my shoulders. Difference is that I have the capacity, mindpower and tolerance to deal with those to create something beautiful at the end of the day. Bit of a post, just thought I'd put this in emphasis, that's all.

Well, I would advise them NOT to at the very least. I wouldn't immediately tell them to leave and refuse to talk to them because they want to rob a bank and I don't deem them fit to do so.

I agree with pretty much everything Anderson is saying, it should be the community's responsibility to put more emphasis on the fact that tulpae are a serious commitment. Maybe put some stuff about the responsibility of a tulpa and why not to make one in the FAQ (or maybe even on the front page) and be sure to reiterate it every time someone comes here saying they're 14.

From over a year and a half of experience, let me tell you this: people will make a tupper even if you tell them not to. Making an ageist limit on the site won't really help, people will just fake their age. As long as they can understand and follow the rules, what harm have they done?

I think your way of looking down on someone like that simply because of their age, and even further say that people like us are incapable of giving advice to younger people, is a somewhat arrogant view to start with. However i get the idea of where you wanted to go with that, and surely you're kind of right. A lot of people have no idea what they're getting into, especially younger people. But it's more about mental maturity than age. Setting a limit that way isn't the right way to deal with that.

You can't prevent people trying it anyway just by locking them out, and basically every

guide i've read here goes with "it's not something to play around

with" so i don't see quite the problem here, beside that you probably just don't want to bother yourself with less mature people to start with, which is kind of understandable.

Surely we should be aware of our responsibility here, informing about risks and downsides when someone this young goes for answers. But in the end that's all we can do. There is no reason to be an elitist here.

1. Ageist isnt a word

2. Its not what harm they are doing to anyone else, but to themselves. See: The other posts in this thread.

Also 14 year olds on here talking about seeing auras just makes us all look insane
