Can you create a tulpa if you have doubts?

Is it possible to create a tulpa if you doubt whether or not it's even possible to create one?

I haven't tulpaforced as much as I should have, but I guess I've been working on my tulpa on and off for the last three or four weeks, trying for 30 minutes to an hour a day, but sometimes I get discouraged from lack of results and I don't do any tulpaforcing for a couple days.

Anyway though, I haven't really noticed any results yet. No sign of sentience or anything really. Could my doubts be the problem or do I just need to do it more consistently and for longer periods of time? There's enough people talking about their tulpa to make me believe that this isn't some elaborate lie, but I still have doubts about how real tulpas actually are and whether or not the people who say they have a tulpa are just embellishing a lot or I'm reading too much into it and in reality it's not much more than a run of the mill unresponsive imaginary friend.

The guides aren't joking when they say it takes a while. You should be forcing for no less than half an hour per day consistently, preferably for an hour or more if you don't want it to take forever.

When your tulpa starts to become sentient then is it a pretty profound and noticeable event or is it more like a very subtle and gradual build up that is difficult to notice?

If I could just feel something undeniable to verify that my tulpa is actually there then I would be so motivated that I could do this for hours every day without a problem. It's just that during this period where it kind of feels like I'm talking to an imaginary friend that I get easily discouraged.

Also, I heard narrating is pretty essential, but I can't seem to get it down. I start a movie or game and try to narrate it to my tulpa as I watch/play and then all of the sudden I get absorbed in the game, it's an hour later, and I completely forgot about my tulpa.

Make sure when you're talking to your tulpa, you feel as though you are talking to somebody and not just to thin air. If it helps, pretend your tulpa is always just out of your sight, listening to what you say.

It will, for most people, take a long time to see any signs of sentience. It will most likely be gradual, not sudden. Though you will know for sure your tulpa has become sentient when it sends you an emotion or even talks to you, and it seems alien and like it came out of nowhere.

Heya, I know the problem of doubt sometimes, as I'm still in the creation process like you are.

In such cases, I just start narrating to her, tell her about my situation, my problems, everything basically. That, and the fact that many people managed to do it always encourages me.

Oh, and I normally do not narrate movies or games, in my eyes is it better, as implied above, to talk in general, just like telling a good friend about you and your life. If you really have problems to concentrate, you could try it the way I do.

"Sorry for that, my communication implants are idiologically biased."

Aside from time and hard work, the most important factor is trust. If you have doubts, explain them to your tulpa and apologize. Always tell yourself that they're trying just as hard, if not harder than you are, to communicate. Imagine how painful it must be to have that effort disregarded. And take pleasure in the time you spend talking to him/her. Tulpaforcing isn't a chore, it's spending time with someone whom you care for deeply.

In terms of how noticeable sentience is, the first thing you'll probably get is a powerful emotional response. I had my first undeniably true experience about 5 weeks in when I couldn't get a rather upsetting image out of my mind. I asked Linda to help distract me and was suddenly filled with the most incredible sensation, I've never felt more loved or protected than I did in that moment. While your first response might not be quite that powerful, it will certainly be obvious.

Don't overthink narration, you don't need to be saying anything profound. Just speak freely, whatever comes to mind. It doesn't matter if you repeat yourself, as long as your thoughts are directed at your tulpa. I always had trouble narrating media, with the exception of music, so you aren't alone there. I would also recommend getting an account and starting a thread in the progress section. It's seemed to help Linda a lot knowing that there are others out there who know about and believe in her.

One last thing, Linda actually said what sounded like "tell him to start over" (her voice is still a bit hard to make out when she speaks), the first time she's said anything about someone on here. While it's obviously your choice, I don't think that's a bad idea considering you aren't very far in yet. She might just mean "let bygones be bygones" or something though, so take from it what you will. Regardless, I wish you luck and hope that you won't give up.

I also started out with having doubts if this is going to work. But the more time you spend with your Tulpa, the more real it becomes. Have you read George Orwell's 1984? The part where the protagonist sees 5 instead of 4 fingers because he had been tortured to believe it?

Making a Tulpa is very much like the so called 'doublethink'. The more you tell something yourself, the more you will believe it. You know that a Tulpa is part your imagination, but at the same time it is real to you.

Through constant narration, you acknowledge the presence of someone else, and make him real to you.

The first emotional response can be different for everyone. Some get obvious, and some get subtle responses. The most important thing is not to question the existence of your Tulpa. If you have doubts, tell yourself over and over that Tulpas exist. You will believe it after some time.

I'd be willin to bet that your level of skepticism is related to how long it takes. I feel like I've spent 50 hours just learning to believe that there's another person there. And I'm just now seeing progress at around 70 hours.

Yeah, I've had problems with skepticism too. I'm 82 hours in with fairly constant narration as well and am having slower progress than many.

I've been consistently forcing every day, but for awhile I've had doubts about whether sentient responses were real despite having some pretty substantial experiences that would say otherwise. One night in a session, I was looking for a bit of comfort in tulpaforcing from just having a hard time IRL, but instead of the usual warm fuzzy feeling, I got the very distinct phrase, "You think you have problems with where your life is going? I have problems just existing!" He was pissed, and that's a result of my frequent skepticism.

In order to have a tulpa that you perceive as real, you need to be convinced that they're real. Doubting yourself subverts the process. That's all there is to it.
