Foghorn Meditation

ThunderClap

Question

Reposting this from the .info Discord in a bit more of a clear fashion. This is a method to enter a state of mind conductive to tulpaforcing.

1) Sit up straight, erect your spine and relax. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.

2) Listen closely in the distance for the sound of a blaring foghorn. You’ll never actually hear the sound, but listening for it will cause your sense of space around you to “shift” and expand.

3) Once this happens, maintain awareness of this feeling.

4) In this sort of focused, steady state, now would be a good time to imagine your tulpa, thinking and ruminating on them. Visualization, narration, whatever. Regardless, if you patiently performed the first 3 steps, maintaining an acute sense about your tulpa should be easier without risking your concentration being shattered.

Well that was straight and to the point

it's always weird to me how many kinds of meditations there are, we're used to just focusing inward/on mind stuff but this one seems different, makes me focused on hearing but also lets me ignore sounds already happening because I'm listening for a foghorn?

dunno if it works for us exactly, visual clarity is as bad as if I did nothing at all but we also don't have any trouble focusing and ignoring the senses, maybe it's good for people who do

I find that is method leads to very pleasant meditation, and I quite like using it. I does make me more focused and gives me more immersive wonderland experiences after using it.

I'm also bumping this because nobody in the GAT has even commented on it other than Jean Luc

I have a tulpa named Miela who I love very much.

One thing I am confused about is whether or not one should imagine the sound, and if not, how do I prevent myself from doing so? I'd probably end up focusing more on trying to stop myself from imagining it than actually meditating. That's just me though.

For an actual critique, I'm not entirely sure what having your "sense of space shift and expand" is supposed to mean, or why listening for a sound would cause that. Aside from that, this is a decent meditation method. Approved for tips & tricks, though elaboration on the points mentioned would be appreciated.

You're not supposed to, I imagine, but I'm not sure actually hearing it would be a problem. But yeah, you're supposed to focus on the silence. If I recall correctly this did have an interesting effect for us, but we probably didn't do it long/in-depth enough to get actual benefit from it. As for how to stop just imagining it... I dunno, that just never came to mind. Seems a matter of mental discipline, "Don't imagine a pink elephant" scenario where you just have to not.

He said that you were supposed to listen for a foghorn, not imagine a foghorn.

What's said in this tip isn't revolutionary, and know that I know more about meditation its not all that helpful, but I think that this is a good tip for people who don't know much about meditation to have better meditation sessions. Perhaps it would be good to make the wording a bit more clear, but I feel that it's pretty easy to read as is.

Guides and tips do tend to be for people who don't already know a lot about the subjects. If I went around critiquing tulpamancy guides based on them not teaching me anything... well, I'm not GAT, so nothing would happen either way I guess. But I'd be doing a lot of critiquing.

Good timing lol

I don’t understand what you mean with not wanting to imagine the sound considering that’s the whole purpose of the method. I guess the best way not to do it is just to not do it?

As for the sense of space shift and expand, it means that if you’re following the method, as with a lot of other meditation methods you’re going to get a bit out-of-body. It’s  a normal thing for meditating/tulpaforcing for more than a half hour at a time, but that’s something I don’t expect a lot of new forcers to get how to do.

It’s not about the sound it’s  about the space between you and the “imposed” illusion. So I guess this is a bit of a practice in imposition too.

Also a small request the rename the method into the melting pot meditation method

Whaat? What's wrong with Foghorn Meditation? ... Actually, what's right about "melting pot meditation"? I don't get it at all.

Anyways, you should be able to change your own thread title by Full Edit'ing the OP, unless Submissions is different.

To me this sounds like another technique for wonderland immersion and dissociation. Cat uses a different technique, but the concept is similar: use something similar to imposition in order to immerse into the wonderland more and dissociate from the body.

From our experiences with trying to switch- we found imposition can cause the host or fronter to associate with the body because imposition is mapped directly to the senses of the body. Recreating a fog horn noise in the distance however would help the host focus on their wonderland surroundings and not their immediate surroundings, which would lead to dissociation rather than association. This guide may not work as well if the host tries to impose or listen to the noise with their ears, so you may want to consider that caveat.

I agree with Apollo that the wording is a little weird and can lead to people getting confused. Otherwise, It's a great piece of advice that I'm confident works. Once the wording is cleaned up, I will approve this guide for tips and tricks.
