Forms and Pornography

I know, the title is clickbait-y and on-the-nose. It's wonderful. Maybe I'll get those delicious views.

That idiotic introduction aside, I was going through the depths of the tulpa community when I encountered someone who had asked their community not to post nudes of their form even though porn was perfectly fine in that particular community. Before the event, the person did not even know the anime their form had been ripped from. Another episode, a friend of mine tells me about a smaller tulpa discord where the host didn't want nudes of their form posted, despite it also being allowed on this community.

So it brought up a curious question in my mind that I thought the community could have fun discussing (or maybe I'll start a flamewar, who knows). Does a tulpa have a right to be upset that something resembling their form is in a pornographic medium and can be readily displayed to anyone? After all, even though I'm sure most of your tulpas are quite attached to how they look, but at the end of the day they are NOT that character. Then again, I'm also biased as all of my tulpas are original forms and only one was even based on the looks of another creature. Soooo, discuss!

The System:

It's too big.

ha, that's what she said.

Sure, maybe people shouldn't post porn of a character someone's form is based off of just to provoke them, but a tulpa really has no right to dictate whether or not someone might find "enjoyment" out of certain images that look like them. Rule 34 is a thing. I'm not going to get upset at porn of Paul McCartney just to be upset, unless probably somebody's posting it just to provoke me. Even then, this is the Internet, and such behavior is expected, especially if the character is already from a pornographic medium or one that people otherwise already know is used in that way. If someone doesn't like it, they can leave instead of telling people what to do. They can sooner change their form before telling people to stop.

It would be smarter to get mad at their host for giving them than form than at the Internet for doing its own thing.

I mean, I'd be pretty uncomfortable if I saw a picture of what is ostensibly me and wasn't comfortable being seen like that.  It would be like finding nudes you shared with someone privately on the internet.  Or worse, nudes that you didn't agree to have taken.  Probably the latter.

I guess it depends on how much you identify with or relate to the character.  If you're practically one for one in personality then it really would feel like someone making, taking, or releasing pornographic images of you without your consent.

I don't think anyone has a right to be offended by anything, but I can definitely see how uncomfortable or distressing it would be to find pornographic images of yourself online or, worse, in a forum or community you're a part of.  I guess it's just better if hosts don't start their tulpas off as characters, or if they make sure their tulpa knows the difference.  Even then though, it'd still be uncomfortable.

Dom's fiancee brings up a good point though.  She said that it can be really uncomfortable if you came across a pornstar that looked just like you, but wasn't you.  It'd be weird to see, and you'd probably not want to see images or videos of them if communities you frequent, especially if people there know what you look like.  You don't have a "right" to be offended or uncomfortable, but if you were most people would understand.  I hope.  I guess it comes down to common courtesy whether or not people listen.  Not like they have to, but it would definitely be the polite thing to do.

That's pronounced, "sir-shuh."

If I came across someone who looked exactly like me, should I be mad if they're in the porn industry? Fond of posting public nudes? Nah. It's not me. Someone that looks like me, no matter how exact, is not me, and I'm free to avoid looking at them if I'm uncomfortable.

I think the same applies to tulpas. Tulpas also have the ability to change form, so if a host has given them a form that makes them uncomfortable more often than not, then all it takes is a change. You don't have to look like that porn actor if you don't want to, after all.

Also, if some internet rando is trying to provoke you with porn, the best reaction will always be to simply block them.

If it's porn that existed because it's a borrowed form, it's the host and tulpas' rights to ask people not to, and other peoples' rights to do so anyway if that content is allowed and it isn't specifically to harass them. If the form is more or less original or the art somehow specifically portrays the tulpas, that's just harassment if it's unwanted.

One time I mentioned my use of Danbooru, an anime-style art site, for finding pictures of my tulpas. Somebody asked me how I could stand seeing all of the bad images of my tulpas on the site since I rarely find any good ones, many of the bad ones being porn. So I wrote a response here https://community.tulpa.info/thread-chit-chat-corner-guilty-pleasures?pid=148262#pid148262

Basically, you disassociate your tulpas from the characters relatively quickly should you choose to. The characters remind me of my tulpas, but I haven't been touchy about their Touhou character portrayals since six years ago. (And back then it bugged me A LOT)

->

How can you steer clear from getting angry over all the people using the form that you based your tulpa off of for their sexual enjoyment while going through those sites?

That's actually a very legitimate question. For a short while it bugged me a lot, specifically the first year when Reisen, Tewi and Flandre showed up and weren't really sure of what they were yet (the term imaginary friend never even came to mind, for some reason). But honestly, it doesn't take too long for you to dissociate your tulpas from what you based their form on, should that be your intention. My tulpas just aren't the Touhou characters. The interesting thing is, I don't see my tulpas in all those images - the opposite is true, I'm looking for my tulpas in them. By default, they're all just the Touhou character. Which, don't get me wrong, I still care about; they were my favorite after all, and I love either of them, tulpa or not. But it's not like I've lain claim to the characters themselves, they aren't mine. Well, Reisen is mine as far as names go on a number of sites.. those are mine. But otherwise, they're just people drawing characters as they will until a nice one comes along that I see my tulpa in, and then I save that picture. Doesn't happen too often, but I've gotten a nice collection over the years.

Hi! I'm Lumi, host of Reisen, Tewi, Flandre and Lucilyn.

Everyone deserves to love and be loved. It's human nature.

My tulpas and I have a Q&A thread, which was the first (and largest) of its kind. Feel free to ask us about tulpamancy stuff there.

If the porn is obviously and specifically featuring that tulpa, not just their form, they have all right to be offended. That would be a highly disrespectful thing to do. Please do not draw porn of specific tulpas without their consent.

If the subject merely looks like the tulpa, that is the tulpa's own personal problem. I can understand how they or their hosts might be uncomfortable with seeing things like that, but it is sort of an occupational risk for tulpas with forms based on existing content.

Then again, my form is completely original as well, so I, like OP, might be somewhat biased

(N: ^this. Although, as somebody mentioned, maybe don't post porn just to annoy somebody and try to respect such wishes if possible. No point in ruining people's day just for the heck of it, no matter how "wrong" you think they are. Golden rule of the internet: Don't be an ass. Ideally: Be respectful. That goes for both sides of the argument, mind you. I'm way too aware that some people loooove to seek out content just to get offended by it and that's not cool, either.)

Worth noting that porn isn't casually allowed anywhere on the forum. If adult material is somehow relevant, or if it's a Community thread (in Lounge or Progress Reports etc.) you have to mark it as NSFW and put it in a [hidden] tag, so that people that don't want to see it don't have to.

When it comes to physicality, like someone who may have distributed pictures of their girlfriend online, and it went viral and through adult mediums, yes, it would be boiled down to two POV – the girl who would lose all trust and respect for the person they were with that they shared the pictures with, and the act of defiance and ridicule of the individual who did it.

If it’s a tulpa that has a form that was derived from the concept in mind, fictional or relatable to someone who has/is existing, it’s mostly just something dealt with privately because if they were to admit this traditionally in the same context I mentioned above, that would raise concern as the people they’re trying to reach out to would only see the physicality of the body they share (to make that less confusing - I mean if a tulpa were to actually talk face-to-face to someone like that; it would be a futile effort, though). If it was a person(s) that had the intention to create erotic material of the actual form that may have had some deviation in it, in other words, the collective consensus the tulpa and host seem to be okay with, then yeah, it would be kind of concerning.

Though, regardless of the beginning, IMO, when someone exposes an image anywhere online, they cannot assume other people wouldn’t have some affinity to make erotic material. That’s creating a small sample size assuming the picture of their form, deviated or not, was only distributed in areas they allowed it to be in. Physicality is different because one can’t really say they were copyright infringing vs. a concept a tulpa derived from that seems similar to their form, but isn’t exactly like them. If it is, then it just portrays that deviation, at some point, can end that whole objectification in the first place.

If it is to be taken militantly to legal standards, then the tulpa being derived from the form of someone/something that existed would be an issue of transformative works, and whatever limits the copyright holders would have of that. Of course, people can’t sue someone for someone else who assumes there’s another presumed, sentient entity in their head. Regardless, if it’s going to show up on the index of a search engine either way, wanting to censor the distribution would be analogous to the whole censorship and controlling of the Internet feud via sharing private information to corporations, and such that’s been going on lately.

Given with my current form now, which is similar to a certain character. I say, personally, If it is invoking only on that carbon copied character, Showing some nudes or some extremities then, no. I mean, you could get upset or uncomfortable, sure, but that doesn't mean I have the right to get upset because my form is similar to said character and that character is portraying nudity.

Personally, you shouldn't get upset because that is not who you are really are and shouldn't be affected by any other means, in a personal level.

Hello! I am one of Nihi's Tulpas! It is very nice to meet you! :D
