Creating a tulpa by roleplay? Is a tulpa dangerous? Does a tulpa ever go away?

Hello, everyone. I just found out about tulpas two days ago, and have some questions that I haven't been able to find the answers to by searching. I tried asking on the IRC (since forums intimidate me), but never really got a straight answer. So I just pretty much had to convince myself to make a post containing all of them.

Question 1: What's this whole thing about accidentally creating tulpas by roleplaying? While trying to find the answer to another question, I heard that this happened to someone, and when I asked on the IRC, I was told that this wasn't an uncommon occurrence. How does it work exactly? Could I have made a tulpa by accident? I used to be a huge roleplayer, but every time I'd roleplay, it wouldn't feel like I was me pretending to be a character. I couldn't tell if this was because of some tulpa-related thing, or if it was just a huge amount of immersion into the story. Is there some sort of connection to be made there? Do I somehow already have part of a tulpa? How would I continue from here?

Question 2: Are tulpas dangerous? While looking for answers to other questions, I'd regularly stumble upon stories of tulpas having large amounts of control over their host. Either by moving their body against their will, stopping vital systems to make them almost black out and freak them out regularly, or actual mind control. And some people say that if you let the tulpa control you, it could potentially be impossible to regain control. ALL of this stuff scares me, and if I had a tulpa, I don't know if I could live comfortably knowing they could kill me in an instant. And no, I'm not afraid of all of this stuff JUST because of the creepypasta. The FAQ says they aren't dangerous, but these stories still exist here on the forums, and it scares me. So I was hoping someone could elaborate on those problems individually since the FAQ doesn't go into a whole lot of detail.

Question 3: Some say that once you make a tulpa, it's there forever. Others say that you can get rid of it. Which one is it?

Question 4: Why... For the love of all that is holy why did I name myself MonsterMash? I haven't even heard the song until now. This is quite possibly the strangest naming decision I've made in my life.

RE: Creating a tulpa by roleplay? Is a tulpa dangerous? Does a tulpa ever go away?

1) usually, walk ins (the term used for it) is much common to happen when you already created a tulpa. There is still a part for you to make the RP character as a tulpa, that is when he or she has shown a bit of sentient (is aware who he/she is). If you feel that your character as a different person then he/she might show a sign of semtience, if continued that way you have yourself a starting tulpa.

Personally, i wouldn't recommend having a tulpa with a similar character as it will give conflict to their identity, especially when the rulpa doesnt know where he or she came from. I personally know some tulpamancers (and me included) who created their tulpa based from a known character then their tulpa ends up disliking that said character and said form. But it still all depends on the tulpa itself.

2) Yes and No. Yes if you treat them badly, then they might treat you badly right back. No because a tulpa's nature is mostly to get acquanted with their host and appreciate their strengths and weaknesses.

Hello! I am one of nihi's tulpas. Personally, i don't think a tulpa COULD possibly stop the body's vital organ. I mean, could you do it? If a person can then i think the tulpa could but i do not know why would a person and especially a tulpa would take their own life.

The tulpa being in the front for longest to forever is still dependent on the tulpa and host agreement. If both parties agreed on it then the tulpa would take control if allowed. But everything is still controlled by the host but if the host want to switch then the tulpa ould becpme the new host and have the major control. I do not think you should be worried tol much as you are in congrol of everything.

3) Honestly, it still an existing question within the community. Personally i say both is right it is still varies on the host. A tulpa do not actually "Die" they just put into an eternal sleep when ignored but still can be revived, by your choice, again. If you still have memories of your tulpa after deciding to "kill" it then he/she is still there waiting to be wakened. It is still up to you if you do so.

Thank you for responding, Nihi and Summer!
1) I'm not sure what "walk ins" are, but I've never really made a tulpa before. I don't even know if this roleplay character is a tulpa or not. I was considering the possibility because I've always felt "different" whenever I've roleplayed. Like what I was typing as the character's responses wasn't entirely MY idea. As for the identity thing, the roleplays would sometimes have a theme of involving stuff like timelines and the multiverse theory. As in if the tulpa would be the same as my roleplay character, they'd likely be aware of the fact that infinite versions of themselves exist. Do you think that would help anything?

2) That's not the most reassuring response, but it's the best I'll probably get. Here are a couple links to the threads that got me scared about stuff like this so that you know more what I mean.

3) That's actually really great news. That way I have a safety net for my feared "literal worst case scenario", and now I know that I can't accidentally "lose" any ones I care about. Win/win.

Edit: Also, not to forget the things I'm constantly seeing in the IRC about a tulpa being stronger than its host.

RE: Creating a tulpa by roleplay? Is a tulpa dangerous? Does a tulpa ever go away?

[Nihi:]
I wouldn't think that will work. Most tulpa can be creative and will or by accident find a way to know who they really are even with all the multiverse theory. At the moment when i first interacted summer she already knew that she was a tulpa and i created her.

We've read those post and we believe that it is a strong form of self hypnotism, especially with the mind control one where I admit we three also did once but with nihi's consent of course. We will never do that in anyway, not only in the ethical aspect but also in the literal aspect as we really can't do it without the host's permission.

[Nihi:]
I will admit i was a succer about those "Mind control" stuff. I was curious as well if my tulpas can do it. I could say they can but the suggestive effects were only temporary and can lead to some after effects. You need to allow them to and strongly give in to their suggestion or else they will have a hard time doing it or cant. I've noticed one thing from the posts from the link as they allowed their tulpas to do it to them, the host gave their tulpa the permission and the power to do so. So, if you do not want them to do it then don't.

Always remember that you are always in control of the situation unless you let your tulpa in charge. I will admit.. Hypnotism was fun but we will never do it without nihi's permission. TBH we've gotten over it as it is need to be approached with caution. There's also the possibility of the original post to be trolling so.. Yeah Wink.

Hello! I am one of Nihi's Tulpas! It is very nice to meet you! Big Grin

RE: Creating a tulpa by roleplay? Is a tulpa dangerous? Does a tulpa ever go away?

Question 1) Yep, happens all the time. Happened to me. However, you don't get tulpas just by roleplaying. For example, you need to treat them as their own persons, and let them make their own decisions. If you do stuff like that, it can happen, sometimes. (they are usually called soulbonds. Walk-ins are more often associated with intrusive thoughts.)

Question 2) Normal tulpas are not dangerous. Unless you consider losing ultimate control over your life dangerous. Accidental tulpas and walk-ins are more likely to be dangerous. This danger is usually the result of misunderstandings or mistreatment.

Please remember that tulpas are people. And people are ultimately responsible for all the violence and mistreatment in the world. So yeah, this process is not some controlled experiment. It is not some safe game.

Question 3) Both. Egocide is the term for killing either a tulpa or a host. It is usually very difficult, once the thoughtform is well established.

Question 4) Would you like me to change your name?

1) Are there any special differences between soulbonds and other kinda of tulpas?

2) Losing ultimate control over my life? More likely to be dangerous? What do you mean? Also, don't worry. I'm not treating this as an experiment or game. The way you say "safe" worries me.

3) Is this kind of "egocide" the same as this "eternal sleep" thing Summer mentioned? Or is it something different? What do you mean "or a host"?

4) Naaaah. In my opinion, it caught on in a flash.

RE: Creating a tulpa by roleplay? Is a tulpa dangerous? Does a tulpa ever go away?

There are no special differences between any thoughtforms and any other thoughtforms, be they voices in your head, or imaginary dancers. Some thoughtforms are stuck in place for unknown reasons, and others don't want to change. But usually, thoughforms can gain skills that make them cross categories.

I should moderate my statement about losing ultimate control. It doesn't happen to everyone. Of course, they keep getting older, and stronger, unless they choose not to. Loss of ultimate control only means you won't be the final arbitrator. Eh, freedom is overrated.

Soulbonds, and especially walk-ins are more frequently the sources of problems in reports that I have come across. Cause unknown. Could be statistical anomaly.

Possibly due to personality forcing, tulpas rarely have personalities their hosts don't like, except in the rare cases where people force really unwise character traits. But deviation means personality forcing is not completely reliable.

Egocide and eternal sleep are unresolved controversial issues with limited evidence available. Eternal sleep is referred to as stasis. I don't believe it should be endlessly effective as the brain can atrophy if unused. There is also merging to end an ego, which sometimes does not take. Dissipation is when you try to outright destroy a thoughtform. Due to the amount of symbolism involved, it is hard to believe it is real, and not just psychosomatic.

Freedom is overrated? But that's EXACTLY what my concern was! I'm not making a tulpa if it's gonna take over my body completely, try to erase me, or try to take my place.

If the tulpa is from a roleplay character, doesn't that mean that you don't personality force? I'm pretty sure I heard that somewhere. Either here or the IRC. And if that's the case, would the tulpa just have the personality of the character? What kind of deviation?

Atrophy? Merging? Sometimes does not take?

Think of it this way:
"I'm not making a child if it's gonna take over my life completely, try to kill me, or try to take my place."

When a tulpa is made from a roleplay character, then the personality forcing is just from when you are roleplaying as it. From what I've seen, they also deviate much less. There's still some deviation, but not nearly as much as normal. Unless you make the character to be a sociopathic asshole, or give them a horribly traumatizing history that would make them rightously furious at their creators that put them through that, it's extremely unlikely that they will be hostile.

Doc: Childhood friend turned servitor gone rogue turned host who's bad at feeling emotions.
Meti: Overly lewd Tupper.
CT, who is also called Jeremy: Original personality whose default emotion is anger.

Exactly! I don't want to have a child that'll literally be a 6th dimension demon hellspawn with mind control, an obsession with murder, and an unhealthy desire to take my place, pretend to be me, and wear my skin like a suit. That sounds more like the plot to a Five Nights at Freddy's game than a desirable outcome. Thankfully, we know enough about babies to know that doesn't just "happen".

Ah, alright. Thanks.
