New to tulpamancy, don't really know where to start

Hello everyone (and their tulpas),

First of all english is not my first language so I apologize for any grammar or spelling mistakes. Also I'm not used to forums, so tell me if I'm using it wrong.

I recently discovered the concept of tulpas (3 days ago actually) and I'm really interested in having one. I actually have had an imaginary friend since october 2014, his name is Seismitoad and he is, well, a Seismitoad (from Pokémon).

I talk to him almost every day but I never really felt like he was sentient, and it always felt like I was parroting him. I read a few guides about sentience, narration, wonderland, personality, vocality... etc, and while everything is absolutely super interesting, I don't really know where to start.

I don't really know if my Seismitoad "imaginary friend" already counts as a tulpa. Some guides say that you should meet your tulpa for the first time by meditating (I am completely new to meditation), but other guides say that you should just start by imagining them in the same room as you and talk to them, then exercise. Other guides refer to your tulpa's "first words", but I don't know if by first words they mean words that you actually hear or not.

So yeah, I'm a bit lost, mostly because I don't know if I already have a tulpa or not, or maybe just the very beginning of what a tulpa is supposed to be, or just an imaginary friend. Sorry if this feels like a stupid question or if something similar has been asked/answered before.

Anyway, I can't wait to be a part of this community.

You don't necessarily have to meditate. It helps with the process, since you'll be more focused, but that's mostly all it does when it comes to forcing. If it still feels like you're parroting Seismitoad, then the only advice I could give you is keep forcing (unless you want to make another tulpa?).

All you have to do is spend time with him. Hang out inside your wonderland (though it's not necessary to have one), imagine him being around you, talk to him. Listen to music with him, show him some of your hobbies, read stories to/with him, introduce him to people you know, whatever you do will help him grow. Or, if he doesn't have a set personality, you can help define his personality (or not, and let him make his own personality). You just need to give him attention in any way at this stage.

Also, remember this.  It is impossible to "accidentally" parrot him. Parroting can only be deliberate, so you ever feel like he's talking without your control, it's a safe bet to say he's starting to gain sentience. Also, in the early stages, you might feel like you're making up his responses like a millisecond before he says it. That's okay,  that will go away with time. Whenever trying to find proof of his sentience, don't completely disregard everything as you parroting him, but don't blindly believe everything he says is him. Both of the ends of the spectrum are unhealthy for different reasons, and having a balance between the two will not only save your relationship but allow your tulpa to grow steadily but surely.

Hope that helps.

I'm not going to listen to you guys since you are all probably just talking to yourself and don't really have a tulpa like me.

Thanks, it does help a lot.

I'm currently reading Kiahdaj's Absolute Guide To Tulpas. I think most of my problems come from the fact that I have too high expectations (suddenly being able to hear and see my tulpa in real life without effort for example), but at the same time, I've spent so many hours forcing actively and passively (even though I didn't know what a tulpa was) without having any result that you guys and girls talk about, like emotional responses and head pressures. I feel like I have missed some steps. Or maybe I'm just too skeptical about the whole thing.

Ahah, don't worry too much about emotional responses and head pressures, that's just something that can happen. I've never experienced that from my tulpaware and she's doing fine. If it's progress you're worried about, it's most likely your beliefs that come into play there. Back then, since you only thought of him as an imaginary friend, I assume you believed he couldn't become anything more. What you believe your tulpa can and can't do has a huge influence on how they grow.

Just believe in him and it'll come eventually. No need to rush things, you're still young and you have a whole lifetime together!

This is exactly what might have happened. If belief is my issue, I guess I can work on it. Thanks again!

For future reference, we prefer basic questions go in the pinned beginner questions general thread.

The majority of the resources on this site are to help new tulpamancers find things to do.

Anyhow, sounds like you are working on promoting an imaginary friend to a tulpa. It has been done by others.
