Have you told anyone IRL about tulpas?

I imagine that if I told my parents about having a tulpa, it would go down exactly like a kid trying to tell his family about finding Narnia... except I'm 22.

I did mention it to another artistic friend who thought it was a great idea for me, saying that anyone making art has to be "out there" to make quality work. For my brother, who does patient therapy at a mental institution, I had to convince him that I wasn't giving myself schizophrenia, but I did without much problem.

I think the best way to put the concept to other people is that we may be doing something with a result similar to schizophrenia, but it's not the same thing. I've heard that in most cases of people hearing voices, that the mind naturally interprets anything sudden and out of the ordinary as threatening, which is why many people believe that their hallucinations have bad intentions. There are very few that interpret their hallucinations as positive and actually prefer not to be medicated to get rid of them. Since we understand what we're doing in terms of making tulpas, the latter is more accurate.

I haven't really explicitly told anybody, but I have told one of my IRL Psion friends that I have something like a sentient construct following me around, and I only told him because he would have been interested in it. Other than that I see no reason to tell people.

I have talked to very few people about imaginary friends in general, but I never mentioned that I'm in the middle of creation.

So far only a friend of mine knows about this whole thing, including the forums. He's skeptical about it at the moment - but I believe he would try creating one too if I have success in creating a Tulpa and can demonstrate its benefits.

It's probably a better decision to keep a low profile.

I told my girlfriend (of approx. 5 years) about it, and it took a loooot of work to convince her I'm not batshit. Told one other really close friend, and he didn't really care. I decided I won't bother telling anyone else.

Thankfully I have an open-minded friend and friend of said friend who both took it very well and are now in the creation process. However, they wanted to tell another person and I reluctantly assisted, since it was two-to-one. That person seemed very weirded out about it and it seems that she either thinks we're all being tricked into some hoax, or it's not a good idea. Hopefully we will be able to prove that they are real/that they are beneficial in a few months, although I'd rather not deal with any person who isn't open-minded about it from the start.

Never told anyone but I've been told about them. During middle school, sometime between 03-04 my "friend" (more like kismesis) claimed she made a tulpa. She also claimed she was going to find a way to open the gate to another dimension so who knows if she was just doing it all for attention.

You'll love this though. Her tulpa was a waist high unicorn.

I have told no one

Only time it's ever slipped is when I accidentally go "we" instead of "me" or when I got drunk once and I started talking to Alice upright. But everyone else was too drunk to notice so I was alright.

But no, not telling anyone ever. I almost told my christian friend once though.

Just tell them you were using the royal "we".

That story seriously makes me look forward to drunk, awkward, rambling conversations with my tulpa though.

When I'm at work and there is literally no work for me to do, no customers in the store or anything, I narrate mentally to my tulpa

>be doing this one day, leaning back in a chair behind the counter with my eyes closed

>yapping away to her in my head, begin to lose track of time

>'Anon, you're not sleeping are you?'

>fuck

>snap eyes open, lose my balance

>chair falls over with me in it

>look up, the voice was my co-worker out of fucking nowhere

>'No, I'm making a souped-up imaginary friend'

>'Ok Anon'

>he gives me odd looks the rest of the week, never mentions it again

I think it went well
