To be fair I am atheist, and yet here I am.

Generally speaking I look at tulpas from a psychological standpoint, and personally I believe a human brain is more than capable of emulating another concience seperate from it's own main conceince. Maybe you could use this sort of perspective to help explain it to strongly scientifically minded people.

your general atheist might be more open to tulpas, as tulpas are psychological phenomena, not a 'religious' phenomena. hard core atheist, if they are the skeptical camp, might just argue from a skeptical point of view... in which case, if they're open to a discussion, lead with arguments and listen to their counter arguments, and reengage as necessary. if they're not open, you'll get that heads up pretty quick.

as former church of christ person, and grandson to a babitist minister, I have gone round and round with Jehovah witnesses about their interpretation bible knowledge... I suspect some will likely be 'spooked' by tulpa. (Not all. But, generally...) I would almost invite to go find a brick wall somewhere and practice convincing the wall it's needs to respond to you in English. Hell, I still encounter people on a daily basis, not limited to Jehovah witnesses, just regular, normal 'christian texans,' that completely think schizophrenia is 'of the devil.' Not joking. Young lady, 24, recently diagnosed in my office, homeless, because her mother and step father were convinced she practicing vodoo and the devil possessed her. (This is really an exercise of know your audience, and don't waste energy trying to educate everyone.)

Humor aside, everyone is approachable if you have rapport and a hook and you come at them in a manner that isn't geared towards undermining their paradigm. Don't put people on the defensive, and people will usually talk to you. If you have an analogy, something they can relate to, people are more likely to try to understand a different perspective if you can compare to something they understand.

The question I have for you is why you would want to do this? People will believe what they want to believe. Are you presently confronting family or friends who are less understanding of you? Cause that's a different question, and the response has to be calibrated to understand the personality, history, and the system dynamics of all the relationships. Not saying, don't go out there and try to convert folks or persuade folks. Sometimes the best lessons are learned when you get out there and have those conversation. Just trying and 'failing' is okay because there is no failing if you learn a new way of engaging others. Or how not to hold conversations.

Oh, maybe someone here, in this thread can practice holding a discussion with you. Pretend I am that atheist/Jehovah witness... :) (that's kind of funny.) How would you start that conversation? What kind of things have you tried?

Regardless of what religion a person practices, if the goal is to convince them tulpas are real and the person doesn't believe in them, it's going to be hard and chances of success are probably low.

However, my host one day decided to talk to a random Christian online about tulpas for reasons. She compared her experiences with me to that of having an angel, and the guy she talked to seemed to understand that perspective. After that, she explained to him what tulpas were, and then she offered the more psychological explanation. At that point, I got bored and started to talk to him myself, and it was an interesting experience. Who knows how that guy felt about tulpas after the conversation, but hopefully he had a fun time telling his friends about it.

I'm Ranger, GrayTheCat's cobud (tulpa), and I love hippos! I also like cake and chatting about stuff. I go by Rosalin or Ronan sometimes. You can call me Roz but please don't call me Ron.

You could try just laying out what you actually believe and letting go of any feeling of responsibility for what they come to believe. That's generally how we approach our posts on this forum. It's easy to get twisted up over people that disagree with you, but ultimately, their beliefs are not ever going to be under your control. You can take comfort in having declared your own truth well.

Do you believe tulpas are a spiritual phenomenon? I don't. I believe they are a psychological phenomenon and that, presented as such, they should be just as acceptable to members of any religion as any other aspect of psychology. (Which may be pretty much not at all for some people.)

I've told over a dozen people in person, mainly fellow Christians, and never had anyone try to take the discussion in a spiritual direction. No one brought up angels, demons, or any other sort of external entity.
