Darthtoa January 2, 2013 Share January 2, 2013 Well, as the title implies, I'm writing a story (I might make it a comic, and I'm writing it to be adaptable into one) loosely based on tulpae (Although it's a bit closer to the original Tibetan Tulpa), and I'd appreciate some input. The backstory is that this kid wakes up one morning and there's this person standing in front of him, acting like they're friends, but when he lunges at her, he goes right through her, and she says that she's an imaginary friend, but he's given up on such 'childish things', but he can't control her or make her go away, so he just deals with it. Later on, he finds out that she can move stuff, and she saves his life, and other stuff happens. But the main chapters revolve around him meeting a group of people that have the same thing (In my story, they're called MAGI), and they do... stuff. That's as far as I've gotten, planning large-scale, but I'm editing the document all the time, so, if Google Docs works the way I think it does, then it should auto-update. Phi January 2, 2013 Share January 2, 2013 Tulpae can't interact with physical objects... That's what I was thinking. If you want to keep this idea, change it from being about tulpa to something else. If you want it to be able tulpa, make it a bit more realistic. But you're the author, it's ultimately up to you.
Darthtoa January 2, 2013 Author Share January 2, 2013 Sorry for the late reply, I made this thread shortly before bed. Tulpae can't interact with physical objects... I may be mistaken, but I thought that the original Tibetan meaning for 'Tulpa' was a thoughtform that has physically manifested. That is the premise of my story. But, like I said, I may be mistaken. However, that is merely an excuse, I wanted to make a hero comic (battle manga?) and simply couldn't achieve that with a 'realistic' tulpa. And this is a work of fiction, after all. :-/ Also, I didn't want to use the name 'tulpa' in the story, because I'm letting my brother review it as well, and I don't know how he'll react to me still interested in them after my mother found out (and subsequently, rebuked is the only word I know of that fits). But, if you feel it's too out there, then you can delete the thread, or move it to off-topic, or whatever. Sorry if I may come off as overly defensive. Guest January 3, 2013 Share January 3, 2013 When I read the part about the tulpa being able to physically interact with things, I think of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. They've essentially got the same thing, "Stands" that are a spiritual being unique to the owner that can only be seen by the host or other Stand users, but can make physical interaction and each one has its own unique powers, most which bend the laws of physics. In this case, making people get extreme nausea from passing through them. While Stands are ridiculously cool, I still think you may want to stay out of that whole area somehow, especially if you're making it some sort of battle manga. It might be too similar. Wait, seriously? :O Darn you, subconscious plagiarism! Seriously, though, MAGI don't have unique powers, all of them just make people nauseous if they pass through them; I imagine it as a side-effect of a semi-solid being passing through a solid being. The most unique thing about them is their appearance. But man, that is ridiculous how close it is. I've never even heard of that series. However, I'm not going to look up JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, because I might accidentally steal something from it if I have. Stand designs are pretty alien and they usually don't act or speak like a normal person. They are bound to the will of their users and only do things if the user wants them to. If anything, you can go with a light-hearted approach for scenes like just regular shenanigans and stuff. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is 24/7 fighting and/or complaining about things pretty much. And yeah, I'm aiming for a story that is fairly lighthearted, but with serious moments (Like the Shinji vs. Mary mini-battle, I'm going for Shinji/Lilith to be kind of scary sometimes), and there will be action scenes (I haven't made an opposing faction yet, though. >_>), but it'll focus on John and his 'adventures'. Overall, I would like the action-comedy ratio to be similar to Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, if you've seen that, but I haven't really gotten an overarching story solidified yet.
