Imposition and Phantom Tail Syndrome

Chances are, you've heard of the phenomenon called Phantom Limb Syndrome, where you feel your limbs when by all means it should be impossible, i.e. if you feel an arm that was amputated. Similarly, with Phantom Tail Syndrome, you get a degree of sensory input from a body part you do not and never have had. Most commonly a tail, thus the name. I was curious as to if it would be possible to impose a phantom tail to the extent where it was, to you, as much part of your body as your arms. To see and feel it and such. I would think so, but has anyone heard of such a thing?

Yes, it's possible. I've done it before. About a year ago I wanted wings so bad. I constantly imagined having large black bird wings and they felt so real it was uncomfortable to wear shirts or sit back because they were tight on my wings. They looked so real sometimes I forgot people couldn't see them. I got sick of being uncomfortable wearing shirts that I just ignored the wings until they disappeared. Good thing I got rid of them, I was afraid that I'd get so used to them that I'd forget they weren't real and try to fly or something.

Yeah, I was reading a bit too much Maximum Ride at the time...

It's a common practice in certain screwy corners of the internet to impose extra limbs in your vision and give yourself phantom tail syndrome to match them. Otherkin, naturally. I've never looked to see how many of these people had notable success, though.

The above post does not contain facts.

I'll probably try that then, it sounds fun. I already have the syndrome, for both tail and cat ears... could be fun. My friends already know about it, so I can talk about em like it's perfectly normal.

How does one get this to work in the first place? I've been a slimegirl in my wonderland for a few months now, and I can imagine the correct sensations, but it's all fakey and not really there, and it goes away the instant I stop focusing on it.

Focus as much as possible until focusing becomes automatic. Similar to how at first your tulpa is only around when you focus on them, I guess. I dunno. The wings started as a daydream thing and then I realized I was accidentally imposing and then eventually after focusing almost constantly it became automatic.

I've heard and met people with with phantom limbs they never had, yes. Most of the handful that I have met didn't will them into existence consciously though and rather they've just ended up with them. However, not too sure how well consciously creating a supernumerary phantom limb might turn out nor how vivid or lasting they might be but I can't see why it would not be possible.

I've heard of some successfully doing this through hypnosis, and getting a phantom whatever that's fully imposed on all physical senses and feels every bit as real as any other limb.

Furries tend to get it easiest, as the idea that your anthropomorphic persona IS you tends to give the tail/wings/ears etc. enough passive attention to get it to happen without trying. It takes focus to refine it more than get it, in my opinion. Does that make sense?

Yeah. The people who're getting it most easily have probably been imagining it for years, and doing it most of the time. I on the other hand have just been doing this different form for months, and still very easily get refocused on the body I've closely identified with most of my life.

Will probably happen eventually if I keep this up, tbh. Not entirely sure it's a good idea, but it would certainly be interesting.
