FigN01 June 9, 2012 Share June 9, 2012 I discussed tulpas with my friend. He said that he believes a tulpa is not truly sentient, and that if I made one it wouldn't actually be my own thoughts faking sentience for me. I said that if I'm making a tulpa, my end goal is to have a being that appears to me as having real sentience. In order to get to that point, then I must believe my tulpa will be sentient. Therefore, in order to have a tulpa at all, I have to tell him that tulpas have sentience and believe it when I say it. So now I believe without any doubt that tulpas have true sentience/consciousness even if I don't want to. He really had no counterpoint to that. ThatOneGuy June 9, 2012 Share June 9, 2012 Well okay then. Messing with your belief system is a part of the tulpa making process, you know. And I too believe that they exist as a separate conscious to our own. Orange juice helps with concentration headaches.
FigN01 June 9, 2012 Author Share June 9, 2012 Not saying I don't want to. I just thought it was an interesting twist of logic.

Charlotte June 9, 2012 Share June 9, 2012 Do we even know what a consciousness is? This hot empty painting should be locked and towed.
ThatOneGuy June 9, 2012 Share June 9, 2012 It's a difficult thing to define without delving into the way the brain actually functions. Unless you take a more metaphysical/philosophical route. Guest Anonymous June 9, 2012 Share June 9, 2012 I personally believe that they exist as a mutual/symbiotic relationship. You need the tulpa for whatever reasons you desire, and it needs your focus to stay alive. So no matter how the other resists, they each can affect eachother, even in a fully developed state. So they are not entirely seperate. I'm sure that TOG could attempt to parrot Clair, even at this state. She would resist, but it would be possible. And on the topic of Clair, she herself stated when she was sentient (through the IRC) that your subconscious can change you, at least while the personality is still forming. So whats to say that your dreams could reflect upon your tulpa? That seems like I wasn't entirely on topic.
glitchthe3rd June 9, 2012 Share June 9, 2012 Luna brought something up to that effect: "Like humans, I didn't have a choice in being created. Unlike them, I can't just go my own way in life." So you're definitely on the right track in assuming it's a symbiotic relationship, Costanza. Also I guess being the tulpa equivalent of a NEET means you have a lot of time to contemplate philosophical matters, which I guess is what Luna is really doing when she's just laying around all day. Guest Anonymous June 9, 2012 Share June 9, 2012 Can she control your speech? If so, why not install some dictation software and have her speech through your mouth to get her apparently-many thoughts out faster. And why not employ her? You've probably tried it before, but have her clean up the wonderland (if it still exists) for time doing something she likes, like the IRC, if she likes that.
