[Misc] How to Differentiate Proxying from Roleplaying?
For some time now, one of my tulpas has been wanting to proxy. However, I've been hesitant to let them, and even outright denied it once. Why? Simple: I can't tell the difference. See, I was a roleplayer in years past, and with the "no roleplaying" rule, I've been walking on eggshells and trying not to make it seem like I'm roleplaying.

So, my question is: is there a way to differentiate the two, specifically between host and tulpa? I'm sure it's something that varies from host to host, but a general answer will work as well.

Thanks in advance!

Roleplaying, like parroting, is not something you can do by accident. If you are not intending to roleplay / parrot then you aren't, simple as that.
I still am a roleplayer and both my headmates were created unintentionally by roleplaying them. The difference between becoming a character and a character talking to me has always seemed pretty broad to me. I continued playing both for a while after they became independent, with them watching me do it and commenting, though Vesper is currently between games and Iris took over playing herself nearly a year ago.

In proxying, the fronter is just taking dictation and not making anything up, so if the composer's vocality is strong, they can confirm, as often as necessary, that the words being set down are consistent with their meaning and intent. If they can't confirm that consistently, they might not be ready for proxying. But if they do confirm it, believe them and let the matter go.

If you and your headmates are sincerely trying to put down words accurately, I don't expect you to run afoul of the roleplaying rule just because you might have occasionally filled in an ambiguous word or two.
