This is daily thread #10

What are the pros and cons that your system experiences with switching? If you can't switch yet, what sort of pros/cons do you anticipate occurring when you do?

This can be specifically the pros/cons in comparison to just possessing/fronting without switching, and also just in general.

Vesper: I primarily switch to interact with out-system people. I'm the only extravert in the system and that's very important to me. But there are also a few hobbies I pursue on a limited basis that my headmates don't care about or don't care for. Switching also gives me an opportunity to indulge my different food preferences.

I really don't like feeling like I'm in this body though. I've essentially overcome the initial months of not feeling like myself and doubting if I was still me, but the body doesn't look or feel like mine does. Meanwhile, my form is very slowly becoming more vividly like my body. So if there is anything that I can readily accomplish from second position, I do, instead of switching, and I enjoy it as much or more. And while I'm much better at forcing than I used to be and Ember is much better at being forced than she used to be, the greatest, strongest, clearest functioning of our system is still when she fronts. I don't lose any mental clarity by switching out, but I do lose some amount of companionship by switching in.

Iris: Switching in is necessary for me to experience going home, now that I play myself. That is the primary time I do so. I do not experience nearly the levels of visceral rejection of the physical body that Vesper does. I do not find switching in existentially threatening. But I also lack things I want to do in the physical world, given that my highest priority is spending time with my sisters and I am not as good at forcing as either of them.

Ember: My headmates are both happier for being able to switch in whenever they choose, even though they insist on keeping me in front over ninety percent of the time. And their happiness adds to my happiness. But I've also come to appreciate being switched out for its own sake, since my mental clarity while switched out has improved so much. The physical body doesn't look any more like me than it does like them; I'm just more inured to it. Being switched out gives me an opportunity to feel more like myself.

I'm not having fun here anymore, so we've decided to take a bit of a break, starting February 27, 2020. - Ember

What I look forward to the most is being able to experience what it's like to be a singlet and be able to do whatever I want without worrying about Cat taking over again.

Even though Cat will do anything in her power to help me, we're different people and Cat doesn't always enjoy everything I do and her emotions bleed over, demotivating me from doing what I'm doing. When Cat is in the middle of doing something I don't care about, I fall dormant and don't disturb her unless she calls me or a trigger accidentally awakens me. The idea is the same thing will happen when our switch is complete. When I'm doing something, Gray will simply fall completely dormant and recharge, another ability Gray looks forward to.

One of the cons is feeling lonely. I found the best solution for that is to wake Gray up and talk to him, but I figured I'll get used to it. The only other possible con that might happen is a Gray could accidentally switch in and generate a lot of stress for everyone, however, I feel like this is an unlikely scenario.

I'm Ranger, GrayTheCat's cobud (tulpa), and I love hippos! I also like cake and chatting about stuff. I go by Rosalin or Ronan sometimes. You can call me Roz but please don't call me Ron.

My other headmates have their own account now.

If I missed seeing your art, please PM/DM me!

C.D.: The pros of being able to switch would be that Host will be less self-destructive. They suffer from depression and sometimes have suicidal thoughts, so, whenever he might be of danger to ourselves, we can take over.

A con for this line of thinking is that Host will resort to escapism and the like, but we are going to work on preventing that.

Just the three of us.

This is our approach but not as extreme as Bear needing to switch out to prevent damage, more just a quick mood reset or specific situation avoidance (which is no longer used for us). The auto-reboot and fix method is currently being used. It's a matter of temoprarily switching completely out, shedding the mood and thoughts, then coming back to front. The last instance took less than a second and didn't involve us. Then we go back and re-write the offending root of the negative thoughts, dissociate the original experience, and add good experiences to the same root.

Escapism is a separate issue, but a good indicator of success or not.
