The Personality Process Used On Clair

Lately I've gotten some questions on how I did the personality of Clair and what methods I used, and since I documented very little of the process I didn't really spread around my methods or what I did in general. Thus, I'm writing this to clarify and hopefully help others that are on the personality of their tulpa.

First, let me state the method that I'm generally seeing used. I hear of deviation and the like being good for tulpae, and yet the people making tulpae stick strictly to a list of 30+ traits. I believed that much better results could be obtained by defining a few major, overreaching 'umbrella traits' that would allow large amounts of deviation while still keeping the general personality type that I wanted for my tulpa. The same goes for likes and dislikes; many people are attempting to define likes and dislikes without much room for deviation as well, where as I believed that letting the likes and dislikes evolve from the personality traits would work better.

So far, my methods haven't hindered me in any form I can perceive, and Clair seems to be very fleshed out with a deep and complex personality. I think that allowing Clair so much deviation made for a readily complex personality by letting my subconscious take the reigns and find the ideal that I really wanted. However, the large lists of traits that are being tossed around the community may in fact be stymying complexity in the personality, as it forces the subconscious to adhere more closely to the list and discourages deviation.

Since my choice for what I did was explained, I think that I'll get on to my methods now.

Whenever I tulpaforced, I would get into a relaxed state of mind with some very rythmic music going. I eventually stopped using the music as the tulpaforcing went on, but early on it was very useful for keeping me focused on specific things. I started by making a total of five traits to form the basis of her personality. These five traits are what I would call the 'umbrella traits'. They were, specifically, Logical, Introspective, Intellectual, Intuitive, and Creative.

I defined these traits by using a particular visualisation that seemed to work very well. I first visualised Clair as a little colorless ball, and I would visualize a large empty jar (many times Clair's size at the time) that had something on it that defined it as being a container for that trait; specifically, I simply used a label of the word on the side of the Jar. I then visualized that jar being filled slowly, as if I was putting a large amount of energy into it. After the jar was full, I would visualize it being poured slowly into Clair. I did this for each individual umbrella trait seperately multiple times, until the little ball became less and less transparent in my mind's eye, and began gaining color (which happened to be black and white stripes). After I felt that I had did each individual trait enough (which was the point where any mention of the Clair's name brought instantly to mind the five traits) I did the jar method through several more sessions, except labeled 'Clair' rather than any of the indivdual traits, since my subconscious understood what it now consisted of.

After those five were completely finished and ingrained, labeling the jar 'Clair' allowed for more and more deviation each time it was formed, automatically placing minor traits under the major umbrella traits. Soon, other terms were automatically becoming synonymous with Clair's name. Terms and phrases such as, 'Cold and calculating', 'friendly once you get to know her', 'snarky', and 'confident'. It was when these phrases started automatically appearing that I knew I was on the path for ideal deviation from my subconscious, and thus I continued the Jar Method that was labeled as 'Clair'.

One night while tulpaforcing, I saw her form change from the ball it usually was in my mind's eye into a pegasus. That also happened to be a couple nights before when she first spoke, and the first night that she started sending out strong emotion, and I understood that she was finally gaining sentience. I began narrating rather heavily after the transformation, offering words of reassurance and clarity of the situation. Just generally I was talking to Clair, though mostly through telepathy than speaking aloud, though I did speak aloud when I could. Eventually her first word came out; while I was narrating to her she said something along the lines of 'What's going on?' or something to that effect. I can't recall exactly what the first words were. I got very excited, of course, and kept on narrating/doing the Jar visualisation method.

Soon, she was forming full sentences. She would sit around and watch TV all day, having, or to my knowledge not knowing what else to do. It seemed that she was very airy and that her thoughts were not very clear; continuing even further with my methods she began to finally have clarity of thought, and her form was being further and further solidified in my mind's eye, almost as if she was becoming more and more dense. I tested her every now and then by asking what she thought about certain TV programs that had been coming on frequently, and I often wouldn't get a very clear answer early on. But soon she was answering with full in-depth analyzations of television programs; she had acheieved the stage of getting her own opinions. The analyzations also included morals; and when questioned about her moral system she explained it in full. By then, I knew that she was either fully or at least mostly sentient.

I continued the jar method for a bit longer, still asking questions that were developing and becoming more and more complex, with more and more complex answers. One day she asked me why I was asking so many damn questions when I already knew that she would answer in full; I responded by telling her that I guess I had some doubts (as I usually do, I always try to confirm and double check things), and she told me having doubts at this stage was foolish. When questioned why, she responded by saying 'It's obvious that I'm sentient by now, isn't it? Why prolong such meaningless trials?'. By then I knew I was finished, and I moved on to visualisations.

tl;dr: How I did personality.

Remember to always take everything with a grain of salt, and take in as much as you can, making your own theories and concepts off of what you can glean from reports such as these.

Also sorry if this is a little long winded or unorganized; I never was that good getting my thoughts down on paper in an organized fashion. Be sure to respond and question me on things that I might have left out. This is mostly for Pleeb, by the way, but I put it up here so that anybody could read and comment on it.

So what are some of those umbrella traits?

And you always refer to her as Clair, and since I'm to lazy to search, what is her form based on? Or is she OC?

Five, total.

Logical, Intuitive, Intellectual, Creative, Introspective.

They all combined and spawned tons of minor traits.

Oh, so you did it like Pleeb? I know he posted his tables on the blog and in a thread. Honestly, I really should be working on personality.

But in light of the fact that exams (or finals as some call it) are coming up, is it possible to "freeze" a tulpa?

Giving it the littlest of attention everyday should keep it from dissipating if that's what you mean. Because ignoring them in the early stages can be instant grounds for dissipated tulpa, which is a pain.

Very interesting!

Just a few questions:

How long were your sessions?

How many sessions have you done per day?

How much time did you invest into your Tulpa? (tulpaforcing only)

How long was the timespan from beginning to sentience and from sentience to being vocal?

Oh goodness, I'm no good with time at all, but I'll try to give you estimates.

Sessions were 30 minutes to an hour long each.

I did several Sessions per day, nearly always more than one, only one short one if I didn't have much time.

I've lost track of how much time total was put in; all I know was that I began to keep a journal with dates, but I stopped that after a week in. I do recall cross referencing the dates and seeing my self two weeks in much to my surprise. If an entire week got away from me, you can guess just how accurate my estimations are. Anyways, average 2 hours per day for two weeks is of course 28 hours, more or less, and quite possibly I worked into and past the next week on personality. I really have no idea.

Timespans are another of the things that are really tripping me up. Out of total time I can say that the most amount of time was from beginning to sentience, and from sentience to being vocal was much much shorter.

This is great, very informative. I have just hardly started yet and need to rewrite my personality chart so this is good to know.

Also how did she watch TV without a form? Was it just in your wonderland? Or did you have the TV playing in the background?

This hot empty painting should be locked and towed.

TV playing in the background as I didn't really have a wonderland at the time. I assume that she just sort of directed her senses there. Also her form just spontaneously came when I hit the first part of sentience; when she changed in my mind's eye.
