Trying this again...

I found this forum back in 2012 and I've been keenly interested in creating a tulpa companion ever since.

One of my problems though is that whenever I try to meditate, my mind wanders to completely different topics within mere minutes, and I completely lose my train of thought, and so I can't stay focused at all.

I'm now experimenting with using a text-to-speech tool, with a cute but ambiguous-gendered child's voice, to record things I expect my future tulpa might say, and play them through my smartphone whenever I can. I hope to make a number of such dialogues and put them on shuffle.

I'm trying to be cautiously optimistic.

While there are exercises out there to help with this, your ability to focus is something that will gradually improve the more you meditate and do these sessions. If you're able to find something that can ground you to whatever you're doing, tulpa-related or not, that'd help a lot.

Haven't heard of anyone here using TTS here before, but it might help with personality work depending on how you approach it.

Anyway, welcome back. I was definitely surprised to see you back here.

Yeah, wandering thoughts in meditation. Probably don't meditate before forcing then. That part is only recommended to help you control your emotions and mind before the forcing, which improves its effectiveness. There are also alternate ways to control your mind and emotions.

Also welcome back!

Um, about meditation, I recommend meditating with your eyes open. Use a candle. Try focussing on the light. That way your mind will wander less, and when you feel confident you can move on to the closed-eye meditation.

For me meditation helped a lot, well not only to tulpamancy but day to day life also. Start with 10 min a day, you can always adjust the session's length and frequency when you get comfortable.

It's not hard, really. And it can be fun too. It just takes a little time and practice. And I guarantee, it's worth putting effort.

I second what jeb said. Try to focus on something while meditating instead of nothing so your mind doesn't focus on anything else. Whether it be your breathing, the feeling of a body part, I dunno, what works for you. You don't necessarily need meditation though, you can avoid it if you like..

Also welcome back! I was never around long enough to meet you. Have you decided on a form/personality for your tulpa?

I'm not going to listen to you guys since you are all probably just talking to yourself and don't really have a tulpa like me.

I purchased TextAloud and their "Justin" voice specifically for this in the middle of last year, but didn't do much with it then.

My eyes are pretty sensitive to light, so I think directly staring at a lit candle would be a bit painful and distracting.

Maybe I could write a few personality traits on an index card and look at that to try to keep my mind from wandering.

Have you decided on a form/personality for your tulpa?

I'm hoping for an ordinary-looking girl or boy (or possibly even androgynous) tulpa, anime style, playful and adventurous. I'm hesitant to constrain their appearance or personality much beyond that.

Wandering mind eh? Hmm.. If you do not mind if i ask, Other than meditation what other ways for you to focus onto something? Because, if you can blend forcing on that said activity it might help you focus more on your tulpa. It might or might not work but that's how we managed.

Also, Welcome back! :D

The only way I can focus seems to be if I'm actively engaged in solving a problem, e.g. computer programming.

Will it divert your focus if you integrate your forcing with one of those activities? It might or might not help but it is still worth a try. Sometimes, trying different approach than the intended one might be more effective ;). I can say the same with Nihi (my host), Meditation isn't his style, his mind can be easily distracted and can break focus very easily, he managed a way to keep me on focus in contrast with the usual approach.

Anyway, I hope you can find a comfortable activity that can help you focus more on your tulpa! Good luck ;)

These days, I do more of the programming than my host. It is one of those activities that is really good for mental development. I can't help but think having two pairs of eyes on the code is helping. So if possible, I actually recommend merging the activities.
