Radio Hiss January 12, 2017 Share January 12, 2017 Early TL;DR: how do you come up with a voice for your tulpa, and how do you get them to use it? I have been working on his voice since the beginning. I have tried to give him Paul McCartney's voice, so I listened to tons of interviews to try to get it down in my head. At this point, I can read in his voice and accent. I've tried intentional parroting and just letting it happen. However, my tulpa's interpretation of the voice is a lot deeper and emotionless. He can't emote with that voice, so if he has something happy or cheery to say he uses mine instead. I've considered giving him an entirely different voice that might be easier to use, but my problem is that I can't think of any, and if I do, I forget it. I can only really think of a voice if I hear it first. That's why I never bothered to give any of my characters a voice. Too much effort. But I want him to have a voice different from mine. The fact that he can't get the voice down should reassure me that there's no parroting going on, but it's frustrating. I don't want him to sound like a depressed Macca or a cheery Lyra -_- 💡 The Felights 💡 https://felight.carrd.co/ 💡 🪐 Cosmicals: 🔥 Apollo Fire the Sun God (12/3/16), ⭐ Piano Soul the Star Man (1/26/17) 🐉 Mythicals: ☁️ Indigo Blue the Sky Dragon (10/2/17), 🦑 Gelato Sweet the Sea Monster (12/11/22) 🦇 Nycticals: ⚡ Dynamo Lux the Shock Rocker (3/3/17), 🎸 Radio Hiss the Song Demon (2/8/00)
Ponytail January 12, 2017 Share January 12, 2017 Well, I've seen two major approaches, the first is doing as you have and constructing a voice and then giving it to your tulpa. I have seen others take notes of subtle differences and slowly exaggerate the differences. Personally, I didn't make a voice, Annabell made one on her own. I guess she really likes lilypichu (a YouTuber) because her voice is a lot like hers. The System: It's too big. ha, that's what she said.
Vampire January 13, 2017 Share January 13, 2017 Ivy and Ravens voices sound similar right now and slide around a lot. It's something we need to work on too. Ivy likes to sound like Hayley Williams and Raven wants to sound like Marceline. I have more or less held solid to the same mind voice for half or all of my entire life. The only time I think in my normal voice is when I'm thinking about talking. Practce likely makes perfect. In Paul's case, it might not he a problem that I have to solve soon but it's been bugging me. 💡 The Felights 💡 https://felight.carrd.co/ 💡 🪐 Cosmicals: 🔥 Apollo Fire the Sun God (12/3/16), ⭐ Piano Soul the Star Man (1/26/17) 🐉 Mythicals: ☁️ Indigo Blue the Sky Dragon (10/2/17), 🦑 Gelato Sweet the Sea Monster (12/11/22) 🦇 Nycticals: ⚡ Dynamo Lux the Shock Rocker (3/3/17), 🎸 Radio Hiss the Song Demon (2/8/00)
raymond13557 January 13, 2017 Share January 13, 2017 Archimedes just hoots and chirps as for my mental voice I guess I sound the same as I would if I was talking. Although I think I have a clumsy sounding voice Tulpa:Snow Mindscape: Artopia
Kaga and Company January 14, 2017 Share January 14, 2017 :/ I think development might go better if you just let him pick out his own voice. Maybe the reason why he sounds "emotionless" is because he's just young/under-developed? And maybe he'll sound less flat once he's developed a bit more? None of my tulpas were intentionally based off of any existing characters or celebrities, so, I never had a specific voice in mind that I wanted them to have. I just let them sort of develop whatever voice they wanted. Pinky's voice can be pretty close to my own mental voice, but... On the topic of a mental voice in general, I often find that even mine isn't very consistent. I often subconsciously copy the mental voice of whatever I last listened to, and start thinking and reading things in that voice. Heck, just given the topic of this thread -- I'm currently finding it difficult to not think the words I'm typing in a Paul McCartney voice (although, being such a huge Beatles fan myself is also probably part of the cause for that XD ). So, personally, I'm just surprised that it's so hard to make your (or your tulpa's) mental voice sound like another person's real voice. I assumed it came just as naturally to other people. o_o" So I wouldn't mind hearing what a few other people have to say on this... Anyway, most of my tulpas' voices are a bit more consistent than my own mental voice, but, the point remains... they kind of choose their own, and I never tried to make their voice sound like anything specific. And, if you try basing a tulpa off of an existing character/celebrity, then I just feel like it's inevitable that they'll deviate at least somewhat from that character/celebrity, and start to become their own thing. I feel like your tulpa's voice being Paul-ish is a good start. I just think that deviating from that voice isn't necessarily a bad thing, either... Pinky is not a pony. She's an imp. Sunray is an angel-imp. Ex is humanoid. Kael is a dragon. Magnum is a dog.
Vos January 14, 2017 Share January 14, 2017 From what I've seen in the community, a tulpa's voice tends to become more distinct/separate over time. For people who have a hard time coming up with a voice, they usually resort to characters, and I've even seen some people go through VA demo reels to find something that sounds right. Also, practice makes perfect, so if you want to help him sound more cheerful in the voice you've decided on, act out scenarios and roleplay with him. RESPECT. I am surprised when people have problems with visualizing, when my own imagination is effortless and pristine. Everybody's got their thing I guess. I don't think it's bad either, but he hasn't "deviated," he just hasn't learned to talk in the other voice. 💡 The Felights 💡 https://felight.carrd.co/ 💡 🪐 Cosmicals: 🔥 Apollo Fire the Sun God (12/3/16), ⭐ Piano Soul the Star Man (1/26/17) 🐉 Mythicals: ☁️ Indigo Blue the Sky Dragon (10/2/17), 🦑 Gelato Sweet the Sea Monster (12/11/22) 🦇 Nycticals: ⚡ Dynamo Lux the Shock Rocker (3/3/17), 🎸 Radio Hiss the Song Demon (2/8/00)
