Have any of you tried playing board games with your tulpas?

How has it worked out for you?

Toby and I played backgammon for most of the day and he seems to have had a blast. We've done Jenga, another favorite.

Next I think we're gonna try chess.

We've tried chess with mixed results, tic tac toe if you count it, as well. Simple stuff mostly, when we do.

I think simple would be best but I could see how playing board games would be a great way of forcing them to think separately and logically for themselves.

On Toby's turns, since we don't really do switching I would clear my own mind and allow him to think about his moves and tell me what he wanted to do.

Moved to General Discussion.

"If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. If it happened and you're thinking back to it, try and think back further. Try not to avoid it with your mind. If any of this is possible, it may be helpful. If not, it won't be."

Fench and I have played Risk and shogi.

Risk, we're probably not going to do again. The game is too simple, and I'm too good at it, and she can draw from my knowledge, and from having watched me play. Basically, it's something like whoever goes first wins.

For shogi, which is the Japanese version of chess, we came up with our own variant, which was a very simplified version. It didn't work out so well though, because we're too aware of each others' thoughts. Not enough independence.

Chess, checkers, risk, legendary, talisman are our regular games that we play occasionally (usually with my husband playing as well for some of them). We play with the physical board and I proxy moves.

We have been meaning to try Go.

It works with pretty much any game that doesn't rely on secret hands

Toby wants to try Go too, he also wants to play scrabble and I keep telling him that that's a bad idea lol

I never thought of scrabble, that's a good idea. It might be hard to keep thoughts independent with that one though.. if I spot a good possibility Sarah will likely pick up on it immediately

My only issue is I suck a scrabble. Toby can't know more than me so it's likely he would suck too. ......on the other hand it might help with his vocabulary........

I haven't tried very many board games with Aura or Jason, although they both like video games, particularly Diablo 3 for Jason and JRPGs for Aura.

I did play Go a few times with Aura, back before Jason was here, and we had a lot of fun with it.

Current System: Ziya (Formerly Einulf), Mizan, Aura, Dark, Lucia, Rand, Jason, Akira

Here's our Tumblr, if anyone wants it
