Will poor visualization skills negatively affect your tulpa?

Recommended Posts

I'm in the process of creating my tulpa and have been struggling with visualization. Though I am slowly improving, my visualization abilities are very poor. Everything is vague and dim with little detail and I can't for the life of me get our wonderland to actually be persistent--I'm having to start from scratch every time I imagine it. This is also causing issues with my tulpa. Though I can visualize the basics of his form, enough to get by with, I have to be constantly puppeting his actions as if I'm not controlling him, he simply disappears from my mind's eye. I'm worried that because of this, he won't have the chance to move for himself and that I won't be able to see when he is sentient due to it, or that it will hinder him from becoming independent.

Poor visualisation skills don't matter at all. Not so long as you have some visualisation skills. But, I don't actually know about those persistence issues.

In order for a tulpa to form, a lot of this has to be dumped onto the subconscious. Dumping it on the subconscious will at the very least create the illusion of persistence. I think a few hypnosis sessions will at the least demonstrate to yourself what subconscious activity feels like.

That's good to hear, I was worried I might be screwing it up. As for the persistence issues, I guess I'll just have to keep working on that and hope I get somewhere with it.

I have no idea how to do anything with the subconscious but I will be sure to try out some hypnosis like you suggested.

I think it is one of the things that divides faster results from slower results in tulpamancy. Getting hypnotised is the only sure way to experience this quickly. But some people can't get hypnotised, because they can't let their subconscious take over, even when they are relaxed.

Personally, I think that strong visualization skills can be an asset, even if they aren't necessary. My fourth tulpa tends to have a very inconsistent personality if I lose focus of what she looks like. If I visualize her facial expressions, it becomes much easier to properly force. Try meditation before forcing. It helps your brain reach into the lower, more subconscious, more freethinking brain wave frequency. Also, if you have even the most basic drawing skills, making a rough sketch of your wonderland is helpful. If there's no personal issue with copying another person's appearance, you can try using a reference photo for your tulpa's body, as well.

I was worried about this too. Sometimes it's very difficult to train your mind to focus on these things. I found that if I wanted to see or hear my tulpas, I do have to focus on them at least a little bit contstantly which is very hard to do if you are caught up in the moment with something. For instance if I am at work, there is almost no way I can see or hear them without giving 100% at work. It might be a practice thing that I haven't learned yet, but I just find it difficult to get to the point of seeing and hearing tulpas WITHOUT focusing on them.

Which by the way I might as well ask a question, now this might be an odd question coming from someone that has 2 tulpas, 1 being natural, but understand that almost all this stuff I learned on my own through intense focus. Is there really a difference between meditation and forcing? I always thought they were the same as I always just meditated unless I just do do it and just never gave it a name on my own :P

Meditation is a practise where you clear your mind. Forcing is spending time with your tulpa. I should hope there is a difference.

Getting to that point is the general goal of tulpamancy. After all, what do your tulpas feel if they can't rely on existing without someone else focusing on them?
