When are tulpas typically named?

A few minutes ago, I was reading this guide to tulpas: https://docs.google.com/document/d/17iiFxZ9PYXXxSqWHdU2YoPsGfJr90w8aIG_evqc1wiY/mobilebasic and then when I finished the section about active and passive forcing, I started wondering to myself what my tulpa's name would be if I had one.  Suddenly I thought/heard "Kaira" in my head, and felt a pressure in the back of my head,  which left me feeling very confused.  Honestly, I wasn't even sure if Kaira was an actual name, as it just popped into my head and I don't think I ever heard it before.  So I decided to look it up and turns out, it's a Greek name that means "right or opportune moment" or "beloved friend".

So I can't help but wonder,  did this strong sense of an unfamiliar name mean that I kind of started to create a tulpa by accident?  And when in the creation process did you name your tulpa (or it name itself)?  Was it before you started really working on the tulpa, or was it more completely formed when a name was given?

Everything we perceive is reality is all interpreted by our heads. So technically, even though only their tulpamancer can see them, tulpas can be said to be as real as anything else.

I would say, give it some time. Intrusive thoughts can take place often, although you shouldn't discredit anything. I would say wait a bit, try to wait till tomorrow and keep us updated on whether you get anything else. Kaira is a nice name. Of course, whether you have been introduced to the term 'Kaira' or not beforehand is also something we could discuss, as the subconscious works in mysterious ways. It's just that things sound quite a bit too.... random so far for anyone (aside from you) to give a proper judgement.

As for my tulpas, they just chose their own names.

Ah, I'm too tired. I only came here to help.

It could be you've created a tulpa or started to already, if you've been thinking over it for quite a bit. It's definitely possible to accidentally create one. The name you got was either an intrusive thought or from your tulpa, but if you like it, I'd say stick with it. You can always change it later if your tulpa doesn't like it.

I don't think it matters when you come up with a name or whether you choose it or your tulpa does. Most people seem to do it before the creation process, as having a name makes it easier to narrate and address your tulpa when talking to them. However I'm pretty sure others have waited and let their tulpas pick. Like I said before, you can change it at any time so it doesn't matter.

Personally I came up with a name before the creation process and let my tulpa know that he is free to change it later if he so wishes.

If you haven't even started working on your tulpa yet, it's very unlikely that you'll start getting responses from them first thing. Possible, but unlikely.

It's far more likely that this was what's known as an "intrusive thought" where your mind just throws whatever the heck it wants at you. Not a bad thing; everyone's brain does this.

That said, if you like the name, there's no reason not to use it. Tulpae can be named at any point in their creation, including before you start. You can name them early, with the understanding that they can change that name later if they want to, or they can decide what to name themselves later. Do it whenever works for you and your tulpa.

And to answer the question, everyone in my system got our names when we were first conceived. Each and every one of us has kept that name, though we know we could change it if we wanted to. We just don't want to. Like the name you physical peeps were born with, you tend to get attached to the name you were given at birth. So there's no harm in naming the tulpa right off the bat.

Basically what Temar said.

Personally I named my tulpa a little while after I started to create her. Initially I thought about waiting until she can decide for a name herself, but I figured that this would take quite some time and refering to her simply with "tulpa" all the time felt unproductive. It is easy if you have a name to go along with, so I settled with "Alice" and gave her the option to change it later on, if she doesn't like the name. (She does like the name a lot, though.)

Tulpa: Alice

Form: Realistic Humanoid/Demonic Creation

She may or may not talk here, depends on her.

Intrusive thought or not, I actually love the name Kaira now, though as far as I can remember I hadn't heard it before: closest I can think of is "Kiara" from The Lion King 2. So if it ends up being that I started to create a tulpa, and she wants that name, I'm totally cool with it. :)

I do agree that it was likely intrusive thought seeing as I just got introduced to tulpas earlier this month and I had only just started thinking about what it would be like to have a tulpa, having the name thing happen caught me off guard. Nice to know that tulpa naming before creation isn't uncommon though.

If anything else happens I'll keep you guys posted.

It seems like, since you were wondering about those names, one just popped into your head and it happened to be one that you liked. I wouldn't attribute that to a tulpa this early, but you can leave it as a possibility. It seems like most names are assigned during the start, even if they're placeholders, and are sometimes changed later on.

Najere: Like everyone else said, it doesn't matter much when you name 'em. And if you name them early on, and they decide they want a different name later, then they can simply renamed themselves later if needed. It's a lot like a tulpa's form in that way.

I gave my tulpa a name soon after I started it since it felt "right". Once the toop was sentient, I gave it the option of changing its name but it liked what I gave them so it stuck.
