I keep making the same mistake. I keep assuming there is a "standard" tulpamancer with a "standard" tulpa and a sameness of experience. Time and again I am reminded by people that there is a lot of variation in experience and situation. There is a huge variety of headmate systems. When am I going to accept that as a fact? I guess now. Finally.

She does act on her own sometimes, but that can be described as spontaneous day dreaming. I feel her emotions and hear her "mindvoice," but that could be just make believe imagining her, which is what I believe actually.

 

Haha, you sound exactly like someone with a developing tulpa here, you know? Starting to get results but doubting whether they're you or your tulpa. I believe we are slowly converting you.

 

I understand your points, but I feel like reminding you that tulpas aren't some external, legitimizable separate being. All of us with "normal" tulpas are still imagining them. The imagining is just automatic, trained to happen on its own without our trying. That's what makes a tulpa, when you train your imagination to act on its own. At that point you've got a faux-sentient person in your head, and for all intents and purposes they really are a separate person. They'll act like one, react like one, interact like one, and grow like one. They are a tulpa. There is no fake or real, only levels of autonomy and separation from host.

 

So after all this time, my answer to you is still the same. It's up to you whether Melian is a tulpa or not. She certainly has the potential - if not the everything - to be considered a tulpa. But she's only a tulpa if you can stop taking credit for her actions, and allow them to happen on their own. And I mean, it seems like you're already there, but you yourself haven't accepted that, so.

 

As for her being an imaginary friend or a tulpa, I'd say the fact that she interacts so much with the world makes her a tulpa. An imaginary friend isn't aware of themselves, or of your control over them. As soon as your imaginary friend thinks for itself apart from your control, they're a tulpa. And again I believe Melian is well qualified.
