Age limit

I think your way of looking down on someone like that simply because of their age, and even further say that people like us are incapable of giving advice to younger people, is a somewhat arrogant view to start with. However i get the idea of where you wanted to go with that, and surely you're kind of right. A lot of people have no idea what they're getting into, especially younger people. But it's more about mental maturity than age. Setting a limit that way isn't the right way to deal with that.

You can't prevent people trying it anyway just by locking them out, and basically every

guide i've read here goes with "it's not something to play around

with" so i don't see quite the problem here, beside that you probably just don't want to bother yourself with less mature people to start with, which is kind of understandable.

Surely we should be aware of our responsibility here, informing about risks and downsides when someone this young goes for answers. But in the end that's all we can do. There is no reason to be an elitist here.

I dont see where you got eliteism from. You cant be elitist based on age. If so, all parents and porn sites would be elitist

Well its a stupid word because it makes it so Schools, porn sites and anything else with a minimum age is ageist.

Also

the term is predominantly used in relation to the treatment of older people.

no one here can be trusted to give advice to a child

It's not our responsibility, it's the childrens'... Parents'? This is the internet, you're responsible for your own behavior. Porn sites literally go as far as "Are you 18? Okay cool", and that's the norm everywhere. The forum's age limit is 13 I believe, but of course people will fake their age to get in if they want to.

Anyway, for anything past that, no. Disallowing anyone 16 or under is just as shortsighted as racism. You're thinking of a small percentage of people who are stupidly unprepared for.. ~the internet~. My brother's 15, a lot of my friends I've had since they were 14 or younger, and not to mention a ton of people on the forum itself first created tulpas in their early teens. Many of them were plenty mature and responsible at that age. So an age limit to protect just a few that restricts the many from participating is overall a bad idea.

But all of that aside, many of us have "spontaneous tulpas", or could otherwise have used information much earlier on. The point of tulpa.info is to provide information to those who seek it. Our age limit is 13 due to the more mature content that may show up, but no higher, because there are people that young that legitimately need this information. I'll throw my name into the pile of "Accidentally made tulpas around age 14, would've liked to know more about the phenomenon sooner." In fact, I didn't find tulpa.info until I was almost 19. Nearly five years of having tulpas and not knowing anyone else in the world experienced the same thing. Luckily I did alright on my own, but not everyone is as do-it-yourself as me.

Uhm. I understand your suggestion, didn't mean to go overboard on denying it. But we've done our part, the rest of the responsibility is on the users themselves.

I think that is a bit overboard and disrespectful to the victims of racism.

All I think is that we should not actively help people who are not fully grown adults.

And the whole "Very mature for their age" argument is bullocks because, as mature as they are, they are still going though massive hormonal shifts. Notice that 10 year olds stop being mature when they reach 14-16.

I didn't say "WE'RE DOING TO THEM WHAT WE DID TO THE BLACKS", I said it's just as shortsighted as racism. Treating people a certain way due to stereotypes.

Anyway, if they don't come here, they'll go to the subreddit, or worse, tumblr. We're their best bet at information because ohgod the stuff that goes on on the subreddit haunts my dreams. Meanwhile on tumblr they're probably telling people to kill themselves. At least here there are mature and thoughtful members that can attempt to give advice to those seeking it, even if those people are beyond our help. They won't be getting it anywhere else, and people don't just abandon their tulpa/the concept of making one because they can't sign up here.

Surely you can, but your point isn't wrong either. It's a fine line. If you decide that someone isn't mature enough to do x because they haven't reached a certain age yet, you automatically imply that everyone below that age is less capable of doing(or dealing with) that the right way than you're. Of course it is sometimes necessary to do something like that to protect others from harm resulting out of it. (Said rules can be pretty stupid after all, though)

But to go back to topic: It's like you deny people access to information about a topic, which may be less harmfull than exploring that topic without any of that information. It is a weird problem we got here, since we have no real control about how the information is used afterwards. It's like telling children about drugs and how they can harm you, but they use that knowledge to do them anyway. Just with a special bonus: This time we're talking about drugs, which could turn out very helpful or harmful, and we can't know which way it is ending up after we spread the information. It's a weird case without knowing the tendency.

Denying information to users is counterproductive in its core. One way, not only are you hiding stuff from users that COULD help them out, with certain cases, but you're also making the youth more curious. It's like forbidding cigs on your kid, eventually your kid in his rebellious stage of life will feel determined to try them out, and might really get into cigs, then drugs, you know where this is going.

I am against imposing censorship due to age. But in the same while I feel that the only elitist margin would go based on 'who is the elder tulpamancer' and not 'I am older than you', I respect people like Mistgod and other aged tulpamancers because they've seen and experienced more than me in a looong while.

We just need to really press on the cons, as a community, and not encourage people with intrusive thoughts like they do on reddit. Read Kiah's signature, you''ll understand.

Wouldn't that fall under discrimination?

Directly taken from Kiahdaj's profile;

"If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. If it happened and you're thinking back to it, try and think back further. Try not to avoid it with your mind. If any of this is possible, it may be helpful. If not, it won't be."

The monster kid's insult to Frisk in the pacifist route is "I hate your guts." The shrug was just implying it was an undertale joke.

No one has to die, no one has to have a bad time.
