Should I still work on personality?

Recommended Posts

I know this is a totally subjective question, but essentially I've seen really conflicting thoughts on this so I thought I'd make a post. Basically, for the personality stuff, I got 25 basic traits that I chose to use. I did this because before I wasn't even gonna do personality, but seeing how a lot of people found it important, I thought I'd do something simple while still implementing the personality aspect of forcing into my schedule. We basically would spend 1-3 minutes on these traits (caring, honest but not harsh, curious, etc), and I just talk to him about what they are and give examples while listening to some light meditational music. Thing is, should this be more detailed? I know this is totally a person to person thing, but it sounds like it wouldn't be enough if I just spent 1-3 minutes describing and talking about each trait to him from what everyone is saying on here.

Personality is a completely optional step and some people here only view it as a tool for narration. If what you've done gives you a good idea of the tulpa's personality, you probably don't need to be more detailed than that - do whatever feels comfortable. If you are looking to brush over these traits again, Dane's trait template might help you flesh them out better.

I think it varies from host to host how helpful it is. If you're good at coming up with characters and simply knowing how they might react to certain situations, doing anything with personality won't help much. But if you're inexperienced with character creation, you might want to put at least a little time into it.

The early phases of tulpa creation are highly creativity based. The same sort of thinking applies to things like visualization as well: If you're, say, an experienced artist, you probably won't have to do much more than a few minutes of visualization before you have a pretty much fully detailed image of your tulpa. But if you're struggling at the "visualize a red square" exercise, you'll probably have to put in a fair bit of effort to picture your tulpa in reasonable detail.

Tulpae will always continue to develop their personalities along their lifes. Let's say your tulpa is a caring person at first, then someday a person(your friend etc)betrays you, your tulpa may becomes distrustful and not so caring anymore.

1-3 minutes may not be enough to fully develop your tulpa's personalities, but it varies between people though :D If you feel that it is detailed already you can stop describing the traits to him and let him develop on his own.

How long he has existed as your tulpa? If a tulpa exists long enough you will be able to see his/her traits clearly. You can spend more time with him too, asking him to give opinions over something or playing games, then their personalities will surface--like Chupi said, you will know their traits by seeing how they react to certain situation.

PS, sorry for any grammar mistakes XD.
