i need motivation?

Recommended Posts

I've once again been neglecting my tulpa, and it really sucks because i feel bad for it and i want them around, but i also feel like i don't have the time or attention span... and, it kinda doesn't seem worth it. As a depressed/anxious introvert who's way too often sucked into their own thoughts (too much so to listen to anyone else), i'm having a bit of trouble. I've never been able to multitask, so listening for my tulpa while doing anything but talking to them, is really difficult. Then i also have trouble maintaining their personality, and perceiving their voice. My mind is all sorts of crazy disorganized, so often some random stray thoughts that are absolutely out of character for them, will seem like it was from them.

Aside from that though, my actual point here is... well i can probably find some way to fix all that above, but i just can't find the motivation, or a reason for all the effort to be worth it. So, does anyone wanna regale me with tales of anything you've experienced, heard or thought of, that might help? Hopefully something specifically tulpa related, what you can do with them and how much of a help they are in certain ways. What could i do with a tulpa, that i couldn't do on my own?

This all sounds really pessimistic, maybe even cynical, but really... please, give me a reason to keep up with this.

Judging someone's worth by what they can do for you, harsh. If you're totally fine on your own then do whatever you like. But having someone to talk to can be invaluable, especially for introverts like us. Even if they aren't literally changing your whole worldview. It can just be nice to have someone around, yeah?

There are lots of things to do together, but you'll have to set aside time to do them. True it can be hard to hear your tulpa while focused on another activity. But you can practice that, play some turn based games together, or draw something, or just watch something together and talk to them every few minutes about what you're watching. That's practice for keeping them active while you do other things anyways. You could also do things more actively focusing on them. Imposition helps for a sense of presence, even when you aren't focusing on them too much. Or maybe get into the habit of talking to them about whatever, your life, every once in a while? Are you really fine keeping totally to yourself and never talking to anyone? I thought I used to be, but once my tulpas came along I realized how untrue that was.

Hi! I'm Lumi, host of Reisen, Tewi, Flandre and Lucilyn.

Everyone deserves to love and be loved. It's human nature.

My tulpas and I have a Q&A thread, which was the first (and largest) of its kind. Feel free to ask us stuff.

Heh. Well, if you're looking for reasons a tulpa can help with an anxious/depressed brain, I can tell you from experience that we can help. ;)  A lot of what I do involves defending my host from her anxiety and depression, including sorting through destructive thoughts, offering other perspectives against anxiety spirals, and just generally keeping her positive. My systemmate, Joss, is then good at keeping her motivated and socializing in a healthy way (without overloading her introvert battery), even when her depression makes her just want to curl up in bed all day. So yeah, we can help there, if that's what you want.

Though note that your tulpa is their own person, so should make the decision of whether and how they help. Chances are they'll be happy to help, but just don't discount their will in all that, yeah?

Incorporate your tulpa into something you like to do. For example, my host writes silly stories as stress relief, and we all sprung from characters she wrote. Or if you draw, draw your tulpa... a picture is worth 1000 words and all that, especially if you somehow showcase their personality in the pictures. If you play video games, pick a video game that allows for customized avatars (Mass Effect, Fallout, Dragon Age, whatever) and play a game as your tulpa, with them telling you what they'd do next. Or if you make music, let your tulpa inspire you to make music about them.

The trick is to shift your paradigm: make it so your tulpa is a source of fun and relaxation instead of a chore. Find something to do with your tulpa that you look forward to doing. Your tulpa is on your side, always, so turning to your tulpa at the end of a long, hard day should feel like coming home. Help that along by attaching your tulpa to whatever you already find comfort in and let them grow naturally from there.

Uh, if you're depressed, wouldn't tulpas generally help with that? They say the best way to deal with depression is to have supportive friends or family around you. It's not good to push them away, because it'll only make you feel worse later. And a tulpa can definitely be that friend. But.. I don't know, something about that being "why" you pay them attention is.. weird. To me. If it makes sense to you you should do it. I bet you will be happier if you spend time with a tulpa, anyone, always!

(Well not always some people can't control their minds and create bad tulpas or at least believe in invasive thoughts but still)

Hi I'm one of Lumi's tulpas! I like rain and dancing and dancing in the rain and if there's frogs there too that's bonus points.

All of my posts should be read at a hundred miles per hour because that's probably how they were written

Replace the word "tulpa" with "child" and the answers to your questions will become shockingly clear.

I've struggled (and often continue to struggle) with similar motivational problems. Honestly the best way that I've found to combat this is to just remember all the good Markus has done for me. I was pretty depressed before she came around and I know that it's very possible for me to go back to that state without people, especially Markus, to help me out. It just helps to know that there's always someone who will listen to you without judgement, and be there for you in your times of need. If you're feeling particularly anxious or depressed, remember that you can always talk/vent/get it off your chest to them. They'll listen and help as much as they can. Also, remember that it's okay to make mistakes. God knows I haven't been the greatest host for Markus, but she's always been there for me when I needed support and I owe her more than I can say for that alone. Hope this helped, good luck with the motivation!

EDIT: I looked at your post again and thought that I could put some other more concrete examples of how tulpas can help you out in life. Maybe it'll help with motivation? Apart from the obvious "always there for you to talk to," which is itself a pretty fantastic trait, there's plenty that you can do with your tulpa if you're willing to try it out.

Just the yesterday I went outside and looked batshit insane because I sat alone in a field for probably close to 2 or 3 hours just looking at the clouds and talking to Markus. It was incredibly peaceful and relaxing. At first I wondered what people would think of me, just lying on the grass for hours, but Markus helped me put that aside and stop worrying about what people think of me, which is something that I've had problems with in the past.

Another thing that I've found as an especially good passtime with Markus is reading. If you subvocalize everything you read to your tulpa, it can be greatly entertaining to you both, so long as you don't get too distracted by the book! Markus often sends me little jolts of happiness while we're reading to express her enjoyment of the activity.

It's stuff like that that I think of when I'm having motivation problems. Tulpas can help with a tremendous number of things, and I've found that they can really increase the level of happiness in your life if you're able to put in the necessary effort. Anyway, I hoped this helped in some way. Again, good luck with the motivation problems. I know how bad they can get.

Markus is the tulpa, and I don't really have anything else to say.

*cringes at this article, feeling bad for ever having thought this*

Well... you all will probably like what has developed from all this.

I in-fact didn't abandon my tulpa, they're still around, just dormant sometimes. Making comments here and there, they especially liked my recent visit to Oregon where they got to meet again one of the first friends they ever had, via possession. Still not good at imposition, but they've been a great help keeping motivated for the current goals of joining the Army and experimenting with alchemy.

The third one however... interesting thing happened with him.
