Unintentional tulpas

I find hosts disgusting because it makes the tulpa look parasitic. My tulpae aren't really comfortable with it too. I usually go for \"person with a tulpa\" or \"the individual\". I'm not that concerned about conserving keystrokes that I'm going to use a word I don't like.

I've heard about that SoulBond stuff on 4chan. Kind of strikes me as a \"special snowflake\" deal, mostly because of the fact that people seem to think they have a personal bond with X character.

I kind of like Tulpanaut despite how incredibly cheesey it is.

You're right on the money, it IS a special snowflake deal. I have a soulbonder friend, and I explained to her what a tulpa was she was looking down on the whole thing, "Oh so they MAKE their companions? What a game of self delusion and puppetry that must be."

Meanwhile she saw absolutely nothing delusional about hundreds(this amount isn't uncommon among soulbonders) of characters living in her head and falling over themselves to comfort her when she feels down.

I eventually got her to not only change her tune, but discover that a dozen or so of soulbonds were just constructs of her own, à la servitors. (which really isn't much of a dent, but it's not my business what she does in her head so I'm not gonna push it)

There are some who say "yes, [insert character here] talks to me, and he's probably just a part of my brain" but they are in the minority.

Ah well, I believe I can lend some first hand experience here.

As a writer and an avid roleplayer, I've created literally thousands of characters and every once and a while one of them "sticks". Whether it be I fall in love with their personality or what have you, they simply just don't fade from my mind. At first they begin like all my other characters do, they are generally developed and mostly dynamic for whatever plot line I am using them for, but then they leave their stories all together.

Let me tell you about Russell.

At first, he started out as a pretty shallow and under-developed character. I almost decided to scrap him; afterall I only made him for one of my roleplays with a friend, but something "clicked" and he began to change. His personality took flight and instead of remaining in the sidelines, like a book on a shelf, like all of my other characters, he began to actively engage in the things I was doing.

The things he would "do" were extremely simple and were probably manipulated by me on my part. Such as I would come across a piece of clothing and I would think to myself: "Oh goodness Russell would simply /love/ that outfit" or "He would never be caught dead in such a thing." Silly little fleeting things like that.

Then he sort of took it a step further.

In my mind he was like another part of myself, like I was him and was formulating how he would respond. That was until I decided to use him in another work besides my roleplay. Then he lept to another roleplay. Then another. Then he started his own story arc...

Pretty soon I would be sitting on my couch watching a movie and some character would say something and laughter would erupt out of no where, exactly how I pictured Russell would laugh. Another time I was walking to school and it was really rather chilly and windy, and I felt a sort of presence wrap around me for a split moment before fading away. I would see a flash of something in the corner of my eyes, something that was just not quite there.

By that point he was no where near what he began as. In the begining he was loosely based of a pirate character in a comic I had seen somewhere, but he had developed into a flamboyant, quirky, endearing, impatient, hot headed friend out of the blue. In essance, he quickly became something of entirely his own design.

At this point, nothing much has escalated further with Russell, he pops up on occassion to say his piece, tell a joke, yell at one of my teachers, hug me or even hold my hand. He's not a solid force and he's not around one hundred percent of the time, but he's there.

And so are many of my other characters who have taken their existance to a whole knew level. There can be an entire argument in my head without me even speaking now, and it's duely crowded, but I'm happy and I know they are too. It works for me and for them, and I'm glad I actually have a name for them instead of childishly calling them "imaginary friends".

I've had unintentional tulpas for many years, and some intentional ones.

My first one may have been around when I was 4-10 years old and made a shadow man after my dad kept telling me about it getting kids. I even saw it once with my eyes.

high school I made some personality tulpas by accident role playing with auto-responder programs. One of them was called fire and she tried to get me to give her control.

After college I made a few "demon" tulpas from books on them

Then a moral freak personality tulpa that nearly drove me crazy.

Much later I may have made a few more character/cartoon based tulpas

This year a pinkamena and a vinyl accidental tulpas

I've had imaginary friends before, but they never lasted more than a day or two because of boredom and other things to imagine.

I'm not entirely sure about this, but in the course of an acting class two-three years ago I might have made a tulpa of Stoker's Dracula. Had to ignore the impulses I got from it for about a month before it I stopped wanting to manipulate everyone around me. But then again, I'm not sure if I did indeed create a tulpa then, or just have a slip of personality.

Start Date: November 5, 2012

Humanoid Construct: Claire [MIA]

Stage: Not practicing anymore.

Praise the Lord for the gift he has given me.

This sounds so much like Nate's head. They don't always speak up, but they are all there.

My first tulpa (Rina) accidentally made a tulpa recently...

I had a homework assignment for which I had to write a story. I asked Rina if she would like to help, figuring she'd have fun with it. She said yes, so we started brainstorming. We ended up deciding to do a story about an 'AU Rina' and AU versions of her friends from IRC. This person's story was quite tragic, however. At one point, Rina decided she wanted to see how she'd actually react in the situations the other 'Rina' was placed in, so she made a subworld inside of the wonderland somewhere (which I think was destroyed). She started around where the story did, and backfilled memories, then played out the story. She managed to stuff a summarized multiple weeks (I think) into about 1/2 an hour. I found out she was doing something funny when I got the resulting headache. When she explained what she was doing, I started to wonder if the 'AU Rina' had gained sentience. The name 'Kaguya' also popped up somewhere along the lines; Rina says it appeared in her head in a quiet mindvoice.

Well, if the new being hadn't gained sentience yet, my questioning of it made it. I was struck by indecision: do I treat her as sentient and risk creating her if she doesn't already exist (as I didn't think we were ready for another tulpa yet), or ignore her and risk dissipating a tulpa (which I refuse to do under any circumstances)?

Long story short, Kaguya is now Rina's tulpa, though you wouldn't be able to tell from seeing them. She changed her looks and personality a bit, and after much conversation is mostly over the identity crises caused by finding out that the world she had been 'living in' for 'years' never existed, and that she was based off of another person. She hated Rina for a while, but now they're like sisters.

I made a tulpa accidentally just through talking to myself over several years. Didn't have a lot of friends, just talked to a wall like there was someone there. I start making a tulpa and come to find that I have one already :D

(sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I am new here) As the title says is it possible to create a Tulpa unintentionally? I ask this because I literally just learned that such things as Tulpas existed yesterday. Yet several of the experiences and qualifications I have experienced. Such as: What I presume as myself asking me questions I already know the answer to, random statements that I wouldn't normally think of - however, never identifying it as a separate entity. I never have meditated or any of the "steps" that I just recently read on how to create a Tulpa. However, I have thought of a single fictional character for hours on end without pause, I have even gotten to a point where I can visualize almost every aspect of the character (height, what it lookes like, what facial features it has, what colour eyes it has, how it felt, what it wears, how it reacts to things, what it likes what it doesn't like, How it moves, etc.). Though I physically never saw this entity in the real world I do occasionally think that someone is is right behind me even when there isn't anyone visible in the area. Lastly I have been having fewer and fewer nightmares over the last few years (though again never Identified it with anything). I have been visualizing this character, it's history, and what it is exactly it for roughly 5 years (I have a very good description of it, I did not list all of it's details on this post).

It wasn't until yesterday (literally) that I knew that Tulpamancy even existed, so I am wondering: Is unintentional Tulpas possible? Or is this character still a imaginary figure?

Please assume everything I say on the subject of Tulpae as theory based off of information I have found on Tulpamany, since I do not have a Tulpa.

It is possible. As far as if your character is a tulpa or not, I can't say for certain. I don't know if the feeling of someone being behind you necessarily relates to this. It all takes place in your own mind, if you feel your character may have developed sentience, you may have a tulpa. Right now honestly I'm not hearing anything that sounds too much like sentience--I don't see you describing them doing things on their own or anything. But it's tough to say since I can't take a peek into your head. I do know it would be relatively easy to turn this character into a tulpa.
