Just a really short intro into our game.

Gwen, Misha and I started playing a round of space Engineers (without Bear) and here's the highlights. We have a couple dozen mods, most notably a jet-pack nerf, a speed mod, and enemy encounters, (which can get us wiped off the map, so we'll have to be careful.) We're playing hardcore, which means if we fly head first into an asteroid at 300 km/s and die, well, Bear's going to laugh at us. Our objective is to get a billion space bucks and retire rich, and probably seek vengeance on anyone who gets in our way.

We started our adventure and mined a little silver.

Notable Quotes:

Gwen to me: "Don't destroy my beautiful ship!" In regard to my driving near asteroids.

Gwen is the engineer, miner, prospect, salvager.

Misha is the first officer and color coordinator, and will assist in anything else.

I'm the captain, navigator, and pilot

Day one went very quickly because the ship had issues that we had to fix. Notably we had to restart due to them.

Our starter ship, "The Princess' Pride" is to the right, next to it is the design for our Explorer ship that'll mark mid-game which we'll use to fulfill contracts and earn us the big bucks.

Here's the entrance to the living quarters:

To the right is the Armory, up ahead is the bed chamber and bathroom (it's an RPG, so come on.)

Here's the back of our humble starter ship and another view of the Explorer ship which is our first goal.

1st Entry in our Log:

#01 - Captain Ashley reporting: Gwen, Misha and I have been summarily dismissed from Mystic Traders, we doubt we'll see them again. I blame political reasons, but honestly, we were goofing around too much and our old teammate crashed a ship into a salvage wreck... twice. It wasn't all his fault, we could have been paying attention too. Nevertheless we dumped ole captain Bear.

We barely have enough credits to sustain food and supplies, we need a job badly, and we'll be pretty much sunk otherwise. Luckily I happened to have the keys to one of their scout ships. You're welcome, call it a severance package. Even though we've modified their ship, I'm sure we'll be found out, so we'll need to make a new ship as our first order of business; this one sucks anyway, it's got nothing.

So here we are, in deep space, next to an unknown asteroid, hundreds of thousands kilometers from the nearest station. Luckily we saved some GPS markers that'll get us to civilization far enough away not to get us caught.

Oho interesting way to play co-op with headmates. Hope you guys find a safe civilization that welcomes you

Mhm, there is, orbiting the moon. We're over 200k from that right now so it'll take a few days to get there. Hopefully we can find some salvage between here and there.

Our second day went great, Bear didn't bother us, he moved to watcher position for most of it and we played peacefully without the savescummer champion making any moves on our game.

Gwen played a big roll and she's very excited to continue, she was piping up as much as me, if not more, Misha was having fun too, but didn't do much this time. Gwen was a little worried about my piloting skill, but we managed to get pretty far this session, which we'll report on tomorrow.

I hope you can get to the upgraded ship soon :3

It was a big deal, when playing No Man's Sky, when we finally traded our ship for another with much more inventory. We were still very much at the mercy of any and all space pirates, since we had only minimal weaponry and weren't the best at using it. When we got the red alert, we would turn tail and book it for the nearest planet or base.

And the new ship was yellow. Cabbage II. We lived on a lovely beach with nippy crab monsters, facing a lake with this giant mineral diposit in the middle, a big cone looking thing.

I love some video game vengence.

This is a little like no man's sky, only you design your ships out of modular parts that you have to make components for from ores that you refine into ingots. You can buy ships too, but they're ungodly expensive and not all that great. Our ship is super cute and great, it's cozy. We would like to have those little aliens in Space Engineers that would make it a lot less lonely to play.

Our latest Space Engineers Exploits:

Bear has been absent more and more in our play, which is great, get out save scummer, and we also don't want him breathing down our necks while we're trying to play. Misha says it's like when kids are playing and stop when the adult comes by. We love him, but this is our run, and he's a game hog.

#02 Captain Ashley Reporting: We're blessed with incredible luck, we found Ice almost immediately. This is somewhat rare and since Ice will keep our batteries charged, I think we're in for an easy run. I doubt we would have found it without our prospector Gwen. She was insistent in searching all the asteroids in our latest cluster and boom, there it is.

We were visited by a friendly battleship,

and then we saw a very juicy plum, which would be well beyond our current ability to take, a platinum transport, not that we even would though, we're not pirates.

https://i.gyazo.com/cc1fe7f007a4a052907030555fa51b4a.jpg

We saw a squadron of Hunchbacks with a Sentinel, even one of those hunchback transport ships would have enough supplies to propel us to mid-game, man...

Engineer Gwen Reporting: We had a discussion about ethics, and we're not in any huge rush to retire are we? So, no, we're not going to become pirates and loot and/or plunder any allied ships.

Notable Quotes:

Gwen: Mining mining mining, *sigh*

Misha: Ooooo more Silver.

Gwen: Never mind us, just fellow miners here, not trying to plot your conquest or anything. (As a result of seeing a squad of unfriendly rival mining vessels who would have attacked us if we had left our beacon on or had been spotted.)

Ship Upgrade: 1 drill, 1 basic refinery, 1 basic assembler, +1 Cargo container, 2x Solar panel area, 1 camera.

Captain Ashley Reporting: Now we can get down to the business of making a proper assembler and ore detector and somehow manage to cram a proper refinery on this barge (maybe?)

First Mate Misha Reporting: Only if it's pretty.

Our next installment of "Three sisters play Space Engineers perfectly and rub it in Bear's face"

[Hidden]

Captain Ashley Reporting: We had a minor issue with communications, where we were called by a certain bear and he remotely controlled the ship for a few seconds. We cut the connection almost immediately. Thankfully baka didn't crash us.

Back to business, our mining spot was approached by random patrol of a Civilian vessel. Apparently we either have a bounty on us or they found out about our dubious vessel acquisition. Either way we had to leave for a different cluster, they would have passed within visual range in less than five minutes, good spot (on my part). It came within 1200m of our last known location looking for us and it would have found us for sure. Need I remind you we have no weapons other than a pea-shooter handgun? Stay sharp crew!

https://i.gyazo.com/b2f4e35d1e7a9f2a68158e7034f74c7b.jpg

We were approached by a support vessel.

Gwen Quote: Yay, save us!

https://i.gyazo.com/0541d9ba065a22ff10532b650a56c08d.jpg

We were in no danger of the civilian craft at 5km, it passed harmlessly and we returned to our cluster.

We found Magnesium, which is necessary to make arms, but we'll eventually need Cobalt, since you can't sift Cobalt from stone, and it's necessary to make certain components for the assembler and possibly the ore detector. That means we'll have to leave the safety of our Ice formation and venture off soon.

Engineer Gwen Reporting:

We have upgraded:

1 Ore Detector

1 Assembler (missing 4 components that need Cobalt)

+1 Battery

https://i.gyazo.com/1f6602a14a1c20eb45381cc58baef68f.jpg

With the Ore Detector, we're in a great place to start looking for Cobalt.

Captain Ashley Reporting: After a search of the ship, we have discovered a block with 5 metal grids, our cabin ventilation... So, since we have enough Ice, we're not worried about oxygen, we will utilize this as a stopgap measure to have our assembler up and running. Upon further inspection, the cargo containers also contain that metal grid we need, so we may then use that to bring the vent back online later.

We managed to disassemble a grinder we obtained from a random probe, along with a thruster component on another probe, we had enough cobalt to just perfectly make four metal grates (again such luck!). With those, we repaired the vent and Misha expressed that she felt much better.

We now have the task to add defenses, so we made ammunition from the magnesium and some Interior short range turrets. Though we will be adding a main turret shortly, first we need defense against stray enemy drones and especially missiles, we're not armored very well, a single missile could end us.

Engineer Gwen Reporting:

We have upgraded again!:

4 Short Range Turrets

+1 H2/O2 Generator

https://i.gyazo.com/ddbc511aab284ed63b556c666d8ca022.jpg

Captain Ashley Reporting: All in all a great day for us and we're in a much better position to survive and conquer. Next step is finding cobalt, then iron, then we'll have enough resources to attempt to make a proper refinery so we can process this silver and upgrade our tools. After that it's a task of filling up our resources enough to build the mid-game ship.

Ooh interesting.. L has played some Empyrion, Galactic Survival. It's similar to Space Engineers in a lot of ways, though Enpyrion seems to be more focused on the action and defending vs conputer attacks and stuff, while a bit less flcused on proper physics and construction details. They have come a long way from their early beta days tho. I always hear the two games compared to each other.

I played Empyrion early on, and at some point it was very difficult to get fuel for your tool, so I didn't like it because of that, then I played Space Engineers and it's at least four times the game and much less linear.
