Where the term "Body OS" came from

Oh yeah, quick note: "Body OS" is a term I first saw from the Felight system that a few others recently picked up on in like late 2018- early 2019. It is not "The" term for the body/mind's actions/etc. separated from the host/tulpas. It's just one of them. It's a fine term I guess, but since I don't love it (and I can't really explain why) I figured I'd mention that here. Also because Luna mentioned to them the body is more of a BIOS (motherboard software necessary to even install an Operating System in the first place) with them as the OS's (I still really like the "host and tulpas as separate hard drives on the same computer" metaphor), which sounds like a fair statement to them, but they don't realize no one around here right now probably sees it that way since "Body OS" was introduced with zero competition.

... Just making the development and establishing of new terminology clear, don't mind me. Stay open minded.

We didn't invent the term, it's something we saw quite a few people use when talking about fronting/switching. BIOS actually does sound like a better analogy.

Yeah, you guys just introduced it to the forum, obviously you didn't invent it.

Search results suggest that it was favored by FallFamily and tulpa001, but not introduced by either of them. First use on the forum was in January 2016. We picked it up from Tulpa's guide and used it on the forum three times before any of the Felights, because it's an awesome term. The current trend of using it frequently appears to have started with us four months ago.

(Sorry for hijacking the thread, it can stop after this.. or just after that)

Oh, was it you guys they got it from then? The first time I saw someone else use it who didn't seem to have prior knowledge was I think Ranger, after the Felights had used it several times in one of their threads. It might have appeared once or twice before that but it certainly never spread or caught on. I don't reaaallly remember Tulpa using it, but I never read his guide, so that may be why.

Anyways, say what you like. Just noting that it's a new term as far as favoring it/using it often goes, it was very very rare before.

Now that we've got our own thread, we can just keep rattling on and on and on...

The earliest reference I've found is July 2015, by FallFamily on r/tulpa, so they may have coined it after all. As an older system with knowledge of earlier plural communities, they may have picked it up somewhere else, but I haven't been able to find any references in other plural communities -- however rare the term may have been, it seems to be a tulpamancy exclusive term. Tulpa's guide should be a perennial source of people picking it up for years to come. (The term was rendered very literally in the Russian translation -- it's spreading.)

Their usage of the term slightly differs from ours, however:

[Tri]

Body OS is a name for a sort of built-in autopilot of sorts and collection of muscle memory. This is often what people are referring to when they say "the body is almost like a system-member all its own." Most people tap into it when they front, and for some systems everyone can stop fronting leaving Body OS in charge instead of being catatonic. Some can interact with people in outerworld quite well. Some cannot. Some can and will throw a system member into front if the Body OS concludes that an actual person is needed or it thinks that is what is healthiest, or if it tires out.

[Hail]

Now some systems have a sort of Body OS which can often look like a servitor but isn't that can do a lot of these things too. But Body OSes seem to produce a person eventually from what we gather from those who have experienced singlet death (serial plurality instead of parallel plurality), so that path ultimately ends up putting the "burden" on a person. Body OSes are also not quite automatons.

Whereas we use it to mean the collection of all mental subsystems, conscious and unconscious, that are not people, not us. We don't have any effective autopilot -- the front requires at least one of us present and in control if the body is awake. The one time it glitched and didn't, the body remained completely passive. There are strong impulses to behavior that arise outside of us, but they hit the screen of the fronter's awareness and are held buffered until the fronter enacts or dismisses them.

Our Body OS does a ton of cool stuff, it's funny how sometimes we just ask, "hey we want this" and it magically happens, like going dormant or waking up at a specific time. We're not doing that. Also it can handle most things now while we have fun in wonderland. I didn't feel like I was front, but no one else was either, on our adventure today. (While jogging).
