How do you exactly impose. I've looked at guides, but no guides I've seen explains how you actually do it.

You picture your tulpa in real life until it becomes real life. There are a few tricks to help with it, but basically you're creating a hallucination and tricking your brain into thinking something is there when it is not.

Any way you slice it, it's going to take a lot of time and much practiced concentration to bring them into this world. First though, you're going to need a good idea of who they are, and you need to be able to picture your tulpa in your mind very well, before you try imposition.

You imagine her besides of you. It's explained in the guides (inb4 DON'T USE THEM), you have to imagine and believe your fully formed tulpa is besides you, then you imagine it next to you. You'll get used to it with time and your tulpa will be able to be with you in the real world without effort.

I'm working on imposing Lyra two different ways:

I try to imagine her following behind me or otherwise with me at all times, not really expecting to see anything of her when she's in my field of vision. This builds a belief that she's there. It also makes me keep her in the back of my mind at all times, which leads to faster growth. A side effect of doing this is huge amounts of practice casually visualizing and keeping track of 3D spaces -- this has done *wonders* for my normal visualization when forcing. I suggest people do this from day one. Even if you don't have a form designed yet, try to imagine an undefined presence, glowing sphere, or something behind you. I've gotten one brief flash of the back of her head when she was sitting in a chair.

glowing sphere - add wings and HEY! LISTEN! HEY! WATCH OUT!

Other thing I'm really just starting on is having her sit or stand in front of me. I then try to get into a somewhat daydreamy state and then do a combination of looking and touching. Touch because feeling textures helped me "see" better when my closed-eye visualization was rubbish; should have a similar effect here. It also helps me make the positions of parts of her more definite. Talking with her while doing this helps as well. Doing this, I've had one brief flash of almost all of her, though the image was semi-transparent. I can often get an extremely faint thing, something like an afterimage. I wouldn't start on this method at least until you have her form burned into your brain, and preferably after you can communicate with her semi-reliably.

Additionally, small forms are likely easier to impose. I was starting with Lyra's full-size human form, but I might be better off doing her mini fairy-like form first. It's nearly the same as the full-size form, so we might be able to mostly scale it up to full-size after imposition, sort of a more natural feeling version of this idea.

With both methods I'm doing, forcing the visualization too hard makes things worse. Expecting something to appear all but guarantees that nothing will. Getting into a daydreamy mental sate helps a lot.

Consciously attempting to daydream is really hard. Most times I've done this successfully, I've just spaced out a while or focused completely on Lyra, without the intent of daydreaming. After a while I notice the mental state I'm in. Consciously trying to force it results in either nothing at all, or I begin to get there but periodically part of me asks if I'm there yet, which kills it instantly.

I've had some success recently with sort of relaxing my mind and letting go. It's related to and evolved from what I describe in this blog post, but less intense and without the boundary blurring stuff.

I figure I'll impose Lyra first. As for Eevee, I partly want to wait for the "3D Pokédex Pro" app for Nintendo 3DS to be released later thing month. It has an augmented reality function that can show any Pokémon superimposed on what its camera sees, in 3D; view angle changes properly as you move the system. I want to see if watching this while doing the touch stuff above is any help at all.

Someone seriously needs to make a guide for this. I might chuck together an idea list like I did for possession back in May. I've been keeping track of a number of ideas I've heard for it from others, mostly on the IRC. There seem to be a number of basic approaches:

  • FAQ_Man's way: Imagine tulpa behind you at all times. Slowly start catching tiny glimpses in the corner of your eye. Bring into full view over a long time. Use other senses for support too.
  • Irish's way: Stare and will tulpa to appear. Within this, you can focus your attention on the tulpa, a simple flat surface behind the tulpa, on nothing at all, or on a point in your mind.
  • Q2 method: Similar to Irish's, but focusing on touch. Open-eye visualize tulpa in your environment, bring hands up to about where they are and stop. Move hands around while imagining textures.
  • endoalir & JD1215: Enter a really deep daydream state and use wizard powers to make whatever you imagine override your real vision.
  • Manipulating the "grains" of visual noise you see when you close your eyes in a dark room. Basically start by trying to will a single grain to be a certain color. Slowly learn to build up shapes and more complex forms. Eventually transition to open-eye. Can result in full visual hallucinations, like other methods here. (I had a link to a nice thread on Dreamviews, but I can't find it.)
  • Tulpa assistance: See if your tulpa can help in any way, beyond just talking to you while you try to do one of the other methods. For instance, Lyra seems to be able to somewhat influence the blobs I see when I'm close to sleep.

Personally I've been trying to impose at night, when there are less distractions to your senses (at least for me). I've been imagining her near me on the couch or standing next to me. It's not quite as daunting when there are more shadows and less to really focus on, and somewhat easier to manipulate your vision.
