Yeah, lay it on me. I probably deserve it after all these months.

It’ll probably be easier to explain the earlier stages now that I think about it. My imposition has regressed a bit since my last serious session. I’ll be lifting the same mental weights y’all are

This thread is far from dead. I've just been practicing in silent all this time. I find that it's been easier to do without worrying about documenting it, which is funny. I suppose I'm starting to catch the same virus everyone else gets when they decide to go radio silent on their PR until one day there's a random post about how they attained it. Which I wouldn't mind at all, because I'll at least know what I'm talking about by then

I've been getting re-used to imposing in slightly brighter light levels, as well as visualization itself. It gets pretty easy when you describe what you're imposing to yourself, and it doesn't even have to be elaborate. I keep it to small words and phrases so the point gets across easier and i can actually streamline my focus.

Sessions take a while to "break into". That’s finally locking in and getting the full range of skills back after a couple minutes of warming up. This has always been a thing, but I haven't paid it much mind before now because it was more or less an afterthought. Whenever I think about it my mind always goes to the staircase with the really long first step, you know the one. I just wonder how many imposition sessions have been cut short from giving up at the start because of this.

VISUALIZATION TRAINING MEGA GUIDE (gorcdc.com) (ctrl-f prophantasia to get past all the other junk)

I finally checked out AphantasiaMeow's guide right when I thought I was about to forget it, lol. I just randomly remembered it existed in class today after like a year. I know prophantasia methods tend to be separate from imposition methods, but these actually link up pretty closely, given you take afterimages and visual noise with a grain of salt.

A lot of new stuff is developing in my research and it's revitalizing my motivation to press on with imposition so much. I started to reach out to some people outside the tulpamancy community a couple days ago, and I was blown away by how receptive they were. It felt so good to just dump all this shit onto them and rile up their curiosity as I told them everything that’s happened up to this point (I might be autistic guys fair warning). All jokes aside I’m really looking forward to working with them more in the future.

I never thought it possible I'd be able to top last year's posts. It’s usually the start of the journey that's the most memorable, but I'm feeling some kind of second wind that I can't help but ride out before graduation cuts my time short on here. Posting will be thinner but more substantial, that’s just so that I can focus more on the process and less on some blog only a couple dozen people have seen

Ps, go check out benjamin g and hungry skull's house mixes on youtube. Personal shoutout for being my og music plugs in literally all my time doing imposition.

Hey, here’s an excerpt from The Mind Illuminated I tweaked a little to recontextualize. By tweak, I mean I replaced every mention of “meditation” with “imposition” because the advice as it is is ambiguous enough. Happy reading.

"To succeed in imposition, we need to approach the practice in a relaxed manner, free from judgment and expectations. Although we may start out this way, we can quickly slip into a critical, striving attitude when faced with problems such as mind-wandering, boredom, and impatience. This attitude becomes the greatest impediment to our continued progress."

"When words like 'struggle' or 'difficult' come to mind, or if you feel like you're 'trying really hard, but not making any progress,' you'll know it's time to examine your attitude.

Imposition is a series of simple tasks, easy to perform, that only need to be repeated until they bear fruit. So where is the sense of difficulty and exertion coming from? We usually describe a task as difficult because we're dissatisfied with our performance, which means we've started judging Your expectations haven't been met, and maybe you're starting to doubt whether you'll ever succeed, which can sap your motivation. You're not actually struggling with imposition, you're struggling with unrealistic expectations and an idealized image of what you think 'should' be happening."

"As a result, it feels like you're forcing yourself to do something you think you aren't very good at. If you believe those feelings, the ego-Self naturally wants to avoid blame. If you can convince yourself that you've been trying really hard, then the ego-Self doesn't feel guilty for not meeting its own self-imposed expectations.

You can blame the guide, the method, or concoct a story about how imposition isn't right for you. The real issue isn't that imposition takes too much effort, or that something is innately wrong with you, it's your judgment and expectations."

"So let go of expectations and generate an attitude of faith, trust, and confidence: faith in the method, trust that the results will come with continued practice, and confidence in your own ability. Joyful effort and diligence are the right attitude. Rather than striving, focus on the positive, pleasant elements of each session, joyfully repeating the same simple tasks as many times as needed to achieve the goal. This is precisely what diligence means. With tulpamancy in general, and imposition in particular, small measures repeated consistently produce huge results. The only place for great effort in imposition is in adjusting your schedule to actually spend more time practicing. Realize there are no failures in imposition, except for actually failing to do the practice."

"As meditation teacher Stephanie Nash is fond of saying, 'A good meditation is one you did-—the only bad meditation is one you didn't do.' Take her wise advice into account when you go to impose."

"You wouldn't be reading this right now if you weren't somehow inspired to explore imposition. Keep yourself inspired, and find new sources of encouragement. Make a point of frequently reminding yourself why you decided to impose and what the benefits are. Reflect on the admirable qualities of experienced imposers you know. Read online, look up guides, and get the scoop on other tulpamancers that had success with it. Think about how you and everyone around you will benefit from your practice. Do all you can to stay motivated, just as you would if beginning an exercise program or learning to play an instrument."

Same, if we get in that space where we are thinking about how to document something to other people, it kills our intrinsic motivation.

(For art too, sometimes I catch myself thinking like "how will this be cropped for instagram" as I'm working and that's my cue to get the hell off the internet)

Thanks for sharing the guide, there are some interesting exercises. A lot of the visualization stuff does seem to be better documented outside of tulpamancy community.

No probby.

I was iffy about reaching out to other visualization-focused communities because of all the conflicting information, but I'm glad I did. I really need to reach past my biases more

I just wish they used smaller words sometimes, lol

The problem is there's a million different ways to describe it and then a million ways to interpret those words after so you end up with people not even knowing if they mean the same experience...

We found some interesting examples in the memory training community. There were also some similar ideas in aura sight but most of those are just... wacky

You'll know what I mean somehow, I hope. Maybe not for everything in this PR, but you'll know.

It's interesting because I feel the same can be said for almost all the imposition information I've seen. They vary in format and quality, but all of them promote the same importance of expectation, consistency, and lot of other things that go into imposition. They've started to feel more and more connected as time progresses. It's as if they're gravitating toward a central idea.

Huh, I never thought memory training would have a following behind it.

Yes, maybe not huge but it's there. Maybe similar to cardistry or card magic communities, people enjoy to memorize decks of cards as a trick. But the main technique is the memory palace which involves visualizations.

Anyway, I'll have to go back to read the earlier parts of this report.
