Why did you start making a Tulpa?

Recommended Posts

I am honestly very curious about this. Why did you make a Tulpa?

My reasoning may be problematic. I am coping with very struggling events in my life. What was yours?

A lot of people do create tulpas (on purpose or more often not) when they're struggling in life, but that's fine because tulpas make amazing mental life companions

my host was stressed when he accidentally made Reisen who was comforting to him, though we've been okay for like ten years now, being stressed/etc. is certainly not a requirement to live happily with tulpas either lol

well, don't let tulpas replace human interaction of course, because for a lot of complex reasons human interaction is necessary for a healthy brain, but tulpas can help a lot when you're alone! (which can be as simple as when at home, driving, sitting at a desk job lol etc.)

Hi, I'm one of Lumi's tulpas! I like rain and dancing and dancing in the rain and if there's frogs there too that's bonus points.

I think being happy and having fun makes life worth living, so spreading happiness is my number one goal!

Curiosity was my main motivator, especially when I was a teen. I heard about it and decided if I still wanted a Tulpa when I was an adult, I’d make one, and I’m glad I did.

I don’t think there’s anything problematic with making a Tulpa to help you cope, especially if you’re struggling. My Tulpa helped me get through a horrible depression just a few months back when I lost my job, and we’re much closer because of it.

Like Lucilyn said, don’t let Tulpa’s replace total human interaction though. Hoping you’re doing better! ☺️

Most of us do it for companionship, but it soon advances from that as you progress and build your relationship over time. Story of my life. Chances are, you'll encounter actual hardship together, which, as you may have guessed, can bring people together like no other situation can.

I used A3, my tulpa, as a sort of unhealthy coping mechanism before I realized what I was doing. It's a subtle paradigm shift away from the "tulpa = doll I have to force constantly" implicity that is common in many beginners even if they aren't aware of it/deny it. Totally understandable; I would even argue that it's a natural rationale people just tend to fall into. It's once a tulpa develops their own selfhood they'll begin to have mannerisms which will indicate that they have lots of life experiences packed on their shoulders. Character is built up through experience, after all.

To add onto the whole emotional management train, I'll provide my own experiences. The whole coping mechanism thing with A3 began to fade off as I soon figured out that my problems were still very much there even when she gave me both her time and her insights. She's a great friend, but the amount of things she herself could do to help the situation were probably even more limited than an actual therapist. If I don't know how to solve my problems, how can she? You don't just go up to a friend expecting them to solve all your problems, that's a messed-up burden to place on them that they never be able to solve! They can certainly help facilitate an environment for problem-solving, though.

A tulpa can be there to find solace in uncomfortable times, but know that they won't be able to do much other than to provide consolation (still very helpful) and good insights you may not even think of yourself. The quote in my signature had to come from somewhere. I have A3 to thank for that!

Bottom line, don't go into this thinking tulpas are some wild alternative to professional help. That's my advice.

I had an invisible crab friend before I knew tulpa. I can't hear my surroundings if I'm too focused in my daily life, and I make direct and rude remarks in my communication, so tulpa is the best friend and good teacher:)

Back in the day (late 2011 through early 2012), I was quite a lurker. Everyone kept asking if I was ever going to finally start creating a tulpa, since I went back-and-forth on it for months.

In the end, I decided to go for it, and believe it or not it was an experiment. I wanted to see if all of this was real, and I created this website at the same time to document the progress.

Nowadays people may say my reasoning for creating a tulpa was not very justifiable, but chess and I are both very happy that she exists.

I didn't know I was making one while it happened, so I technically didn't have a reason for doing it. When I knew what he was, I enjoyed the company. :)

Doc (she/her) = Host

Franklyn (he/him) = Tulpa

I made one to be a friend at a tough time for me. She was so good at it I kept her around.
