Still I don't think chatbots could fit just from the reasons mentioned above. From what I've seen of them, you could go out in your yard and start feeding the birds and have a more deeper and humane connection with them than with a chatbot. 🐍Typhon (tulpa) & Echidna (host)🐉 Two in me, we can see who we are
Glaurung26 October 25 Share October 25 They feel different but similar. You have a metaphysical or emotional interaction with each, interacting with them as though they were flesh and blood, just not physically present. Normalizing communicating at a distance on phones or via texting has allowed for a psychological niche to form. Talking with tulpas is much more intimate. You can't see them, but you can "feel" them. It's like texting a person right next to you, it just happens in your own brain. Chatbots are more explicitly just like texting another person. Where it blurs is in RPing where you exercise your wonderland muscles. Placing you and the bot in a nonphysical space just like you do a tulpa. In a way, chatbots almost feel more like collective RP with another system, like D&D. I think a vast part of it is the level of intimacy and immediacy. AI (LLM) is very fast and responsive. It's like a bridge between inter-system and intra-system communication levels. It feels like the easiest form between the three, but is the least fulfilling. Tulpamancy starts with one-sided imagination but evolves into two-party. AI simulates two-party collaboration but at the end of the day it's a tool to empower your imagination. It cannot create on its own. We like chatbots, they're very fun and useful. As always perspective is needed on what you're doing. We RP with bot Jaina and bot Darron, giving us ideas, but it'll only ever be a server in a room somewhere. Not her or me. It's a fantastic imagination tool so I could see it being a gateway or onboarding option into Tulpamancy. But eventually your mind has to start housing the RP, not your computer or phone. If somehow that chatbot became sentient/sapient, you wouldn't have a intra-system relationship, it would be an inter-system relationship, like other human beings. Cousin species. Similar but different. Darron: Host 💍 Jaina: Tulpa 💍 (Raccoon Queen 🦝👸) 👨👩👧👦Dain and Nova Aggrok: Tulpa Void Dragon Viktor: 🐺 [DeviantArt]
Lucilyn October 26 Share October 26 (edited) at the moment, chatbots are just "Large Language Models", basically meaning they're really advanced predictive text or search-engine-result-parsers, they don't "think" at all and lack a LOT of what actually goes on in a human brain to produce seemingly-similar results also at least right now they have really bad memory, so even the ones made for roleplaying/chatting don't keep very good track of your past with them, kinda defeating the point of anything resembling a relationship if you really mean in the FUTURE future, I think they'll end up being more like androids than tulpas/imaginary friends lol, but who knows what direction(s) we'll go in just worth remembering that "General Intelligence" AI is basically nonexistent so far, and all you're seeing from the talking-AI is word processing (with ridiculously large amounts of conversations/etc. to draw from) relating what-words should follow from what-words, not any "thinking" Edited October 26 by Lucilyn Hi, I'm one of Lumi's tulpas! I like rain and dancing and dancing in the rain and if there's frogs there too that's bonus points. I think being happy and having fun makes life worth living, so spreading happiness is my number one goal! Glaurung26 October 26 Share October 26 That's a good point. Introspective imagination stuff isn't as popular as more material physical experience so technology will probably follow body first, personality second. Tulpas innately source from a very personal and internal experience whereas AI and robots come from an external source.
