I am skeptical and Googling it I didn't find anyone connecting phenobarbitone with DID, but research on DID is so limited I doubt anyone asked before. I'm sorry if I'm being mean, I have strong opinions and I'm not always good at being direct. I also have complicated feelings about DID/OSDD in general, which may be wrongfully projected here. I'm still in therapy and working on that. what I was researching was how Phenobarbitone affects the babies/infants developing brain. Evidence proved it could when taken for long enough actually affect the structure of the developing brain and various other functions. I have been reading many medical journals and researching this for quite a while to try and understand where my symptoms come from as I know I was not abused by family during early life but do know I experienced constant medical trauma particuarly in the first 7 years of life. I do believe in my case because of my early life medical issues my personality never achieved coming together properly. "a growing body of evidence shows that these drugs given during critical developmental windows trigger lasting molecular changes in the brain. While the targets and mechanism of action of these drugs are well understood-what is not known is how these drugs alter the transcriptomic landscape, and therefore molecular profile/gene expression during these critical windows of neurodevelopment” taken from https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/pharmacology/articles/10.3389/fphar.2024.1340691/full what it is confirming is that it can and does affect the developing brain so therefore things like a child’s personality coming together at the usual developmental age may not happen. I was born with my thyroid not working in the 60’s when they did not heel prick babies to test for it and it was not found until i was nearly 2 years old by which time I was showing very typical autistic symptoms. I was put on phenobarbitone for ‘infantile convulsions’ (as it was recorded back then) and on it throughout the critical development stages. I was around 7years old when I was taken off them. I do have alters that have absolutely no memory of the first 7 years of life and one’s that have memories of being pinned down (for medical testing or autism behaviour issues) and hate any kind of physical contact. Although DID/OSDD is most usually caused by abuse in very early life it can also be caused by constant ongoing medical trauma. I still have an alter who is highly avoidant of physical contact and any medical appointments. They have taken over the front and cancelled many medical appointments/routine scans etc. Our Tulpa’s don’t behave like that and it’s very clear to us who is Tulpa and who is an alter. There is a high incidence of people with autism/ADHD/AuDHD amongst the DID community and the Tulpa community I have found….(from my own experience of various groups).
