[split] Removing the shout box

Can someone from the people that can't use IRC on mobile say what mobile they use? I know of people that use Android phones and iPhones and they can use IRC just fine.

I occasionally use the irc on my android 2.1 device using the default browser. It works, but I'm usually limited to either seeing the chat or the list of people, not both, on my screen when zoomed in.

But the shoutbox is shifted to the right about 50% of its length on my phone, which looks really funky.

Nothing so cutting edge sadly. Some shitty Verizon LG phone.

Since the majority seem to support keeping the shoutbox, I would support the compromise of moving it to the bottom of the page.

Astral project on my face, brother!

What about a bot that takes all the shouts from the shitbox and posts them to the IRC, and vice versa? Easy to set up, and it would act as a logger daemon that I don't think we currently have.

The irc is unpleasant. The shoutbox has always been comforting and inviting. If you take it down, you'll just piss off a lot of members here. If we don't seem "professional" thats fine. This is a community with one thing in common: that we have tulpas. If you would to make a shoutbox irc, that would kind of soften the blow but render the webclip of the shoutbox i have on my phone useless. The irc works on mobile but is a GIANT pain. Especially on data. Point is, everything's fine as is. I remember in August, josh, yotslot and kadoh helped me reach my tulpa. I promise you the people on the irc wouldnt have been effective.

Also if were going to move it please keep the URL, its a pain to modify the webclip I made of the shoutbox

Jimmy, no way. The shoutbox can get pretty cluttered, it would suck to have everyone on _ot in there as well. Also, how would the mods moderate it?

My opinions are all subject to change.

We generally overlook stupid conversations because you're just having fun, but when you start making posts that would be insulting to a group of people then we start deleting posts. This also goes for linking to porn/hentai images. When a new member logs in for the first time, glad that they can finally start discussing tulpa with an intellectual user base, the shout box is the first thing that they see. People will forgive just having fun, but when they see the entire shout box filled with spelling and grammar that looks like a 3rd grader's, they'll leave. The better people will actually look at some posts before judging us, but I can't blame the people who don't give us that chance.

In short, fun is allowed, but keep in mind that you're the welcome sign of the site. I don't think we'll be removing the shout box any time soon, but we may decide to moderate it more heavily if things get worse.
