Actually got around to asking my friend who knows Latin, he corrected me on something.

He said with modern Latin (aka "Church Latin), used by anatomists, Tulpæ is pronounced:

"tulp-ay"

Then he said with Old Latin (aka Classical), Tulpæ is pronounced:

"tul-pie"

He said there's no "Tul-pee"

You guys prefer the singular and plural to be the same even if it can lead into confusion?

I usually go with Tulpas, because it is the most correct etymologically speaking.

Actually in Classical Latin it would be pronounced "Tulpa-e/Tulpa-i", just like Caesar is pronounced "Ka-e-sar/Ka-i-sar".

Modern Latin is mostly adapted to the respective regional pronunciation, so in German that would be for example 'ä', while it is in english more 'ei' or 'i'.

I've always said tulpae -- pronounced "tulp-ay".

It just sounds right to me.

That, and tulpas sounds stupid, and using tulpa for plural can be, as Sands said, confusing.

"If this can be avoided, it should. If it can't, then it would be better if it could be. If it happened and you're thinking back to it, try and think back further. Try not to avoid it with your mind. If any of this is possible, it may be helpful. If not, it won't be."
