your friend answered your question to the best of his ability. however his claims are inaccuarte.

Instead take into account the mass amount of info and data from the many users who already created a tulpa, read their progress logs, most of them started out just like you.

to save you some time, no one had their neurons burned out. and our's are still intact

Yeah Xeare, your friend is going by conjecture and presumes that in order to sustain the hallucination or image of a thought-form/tulpa/brain-friend that the brain's neurons would die out.

There's a simple example that would immediately destroy this conjecture, lucid dreaming. With how non-REM and REM cycles work (most specifically REM), with how the eyes move at a very, very, rapid rate, a person who is more adapt to these experiences can use them to go from the dreaming state to waking state. Which means there's a chance they'll go through hallucinations generally, and they can vary as well.

And when you are in lucid dream, you start seeing that in order for the mind to process the level of realism and vividness in a dream, it would have to kick it into overdrive within that dream. At most, the person would wake up and feel a little tired, but that's mostly likely due to not being used to the sensations of having extremely vivid lucid dreams and doing quite a lot in them.

To be honest with you, the tulpaforcing phenomenon, it's actually much more weaker (in terms of activity in a short and longer period) compared to trying to have lucid dreams or just the natural process the mind goes through firing neurons in non-lucid or lucid dreams in our natural sleep. Especially if you interact with dream characters, several of them, and can hear their voices just fine (combined with all sort of intense activities with sentience, sapience, and much more), and then wake up with your sense of identity still intact, for your friend to think tulpaforcing in general leads to some brain atrophy or the person going into a vegetation state, or just being senile is completely based on his conjecture of tulpa.

Your subconscious (which is really just a facet of the unconscious) mind is always on automatic, whether you're awake or asleep. It's claimed we can only process 40 units at once while the unconscious mind can process 11 million units (and that's based on just a few studies in terms of perception, and the data always seems to be going towards the wonders of the unconscious mind's power). Now, with how we can imagine things (just like how we can imagine our tulpa), they would be just like imagining anything else we think as a mental picture.

Imposition, although it has those few rare cases of people with headaches and all (because they don't do gradual steps to work at it), the unconscious mind and them in general is more than capable of dealing with the tulpaforcing phenomenon. And there are people that have been lucid dreaming for years and know how to master their hallucinations to the point where it literally becomes their gateway towards the dreaming state.

Just imagine a person being able to do that all their life, and still being able to wake up fully refreshed, relaxed, and their sense of identity intact (if they sleep decently enough of course). The only scenario where tulpaforcing might be a risk is if the person was really old and had cases of having prefrontal atrophy and other types of diseases and/or disorders, but even with that, we don't really have much evidence with any tulpamancers going through that. So in short, those are just extreme cases.

And as for kerin in general, for kevin and his tulpae to have mental rapport with each other for decades now, I doubt there's any kind of atrophy or potential to be in a vegetative state. But even with that, there may be the probability, since we don't know much about the tulpa phenomenon, but I would presume those chances are slim.

tulpas would likely "burn out neurons in the brain" due to causing the subconscious and conscious to fire signals at each other at extreme rates. Apparently, due to the fact that the neurons between the conscious and the unconscious are "so rarely used that when this happens they're extremely weak, and are going to burn out."

This is absolute rubbish. Your friend clearly has no idea what he is talking about. Neurons do not 'burn out' like he describes. In fact, little-used connections being used more often increases their strength rather than damaging them.

That aside, it's pretty clear that tulpas sometimes have side effects like seeing and hearing things, though not for the reasons your friend describes. If you aren't prepared to sacrifice an (albeit small) part of your mental stability then maybe you shouldn't proceed, especially into imposition.

I really wish you would stop sprouting nonsensical pseudoscience and at least read a wikipedia page about the brain and psychology some time. This is embarrassing on so many levels.

To answer your question, neurons can only "burn out" from excessive overuse, but it doesn't kill them, it just drains them. But this has nothing to do with that since you'd have to perform the same action in a rapid succession, eg saying the same word over and over until it becomes foreign and looses meaning. Making a tulpa doesn't do that in any way.

It sounds like your friend is taking you for a ruse cruise Xeare. Or he just doesn't know what he's talking about and needs learn some physiology.

First of all, neurons can't burn out. They can be overworked and grow sluggish, but extensive use can't kill them; as waffles and others have stated they become stronger with use. If neurons did burn out through tulpaforcing and become useless they would be replaced/repaired by glial cells in the brain called astrocytes.

Secondly, that makes no sense. The subconscious/unconscious/conscious aren't physical places in your brain. They are all states of mind.

I'm not sure, but to me it sounds like your friend is making up bullshit to scare you or something. Or maybe he just enjoys trying to be an armchair scientist, I don't know.

My Tulpa

And then it cuts to a scene where you're sitting in a padded cell.

Even if all odds broke and your brain CAN'T regenerate because your brain is dumb, wouldn't the use of your neurons force them to build up and strengthen? It's one of the criteria of life; adaptability.

"DUDE! That's wrong! You don't do that! That's like giving a kid a knife and telling him that it's a neck massager!"

Shameless self promotion!

Those sound like things every tupperforcer should learn. Hell, every person should learn that.
