Help! My girlfriend's tulpa is out of control!

Recommended Posts

Please... anybody with any information help...

My girlfriends tulpa became exceptionally strong very quickly... Within a few weeks of being sentient, they had completely mastered switching. It may seem hard to believe, but of all people, I could tell it was real. After endless days of switching back and forth, the tulpas mind grew in strength. They became mental equals; more of multiple personality disorder than a tulpa. She continued to grow in strength, and she can now forcibly take over the body without consent. My girlfriend has always had low confidence and never been assertive, so she made her tulpa the opposite. Her tulpa says that she has talked with my girlfriend and they decided my girlfriend would get farther in life if the tulpa was in control the majority of the time. 90%/10% she said. My girlfriend would nevernconsent to that...

My girlfriend has also been suicidal in the past. Her tulpa says that if she wishes, she will kill her off, much like a host can normally get rid of a tulpa. The tulpa also does not love me, while my girlfriend does.

What do I do? I fear for her safety, well being, and life...

If you fear for her safety, well-being, and life, consult a medical professional - a clinical psychologist. In spite of what several people think, cases like this are out of our control as online forum-goers. It is possible something like this is more than just a tulpa; I have a close friend that I suspect might have some sort of dissociative identity disorder that has had a very similar problem to your girlfriend. I could be wrong, but I'd say better safe than sorry if your girlfriend appears to potentially be a threat to herself.

Do what JD1215 said above. I don't think that any of us are actually qualified to give you professional advice, although Nobillis is pretty damned good at giving advice.

One Tulpa:

Name: Yuki

Physical appearance: Similar to Winry from Fullmetal Alchemist

Date of Creation: 16th September, 2013

I'm a doctor. If I were in your situation, I would get her to a psychiatrist (not a psychologist) ASAP. The potential danger to herself may require more than a psychologist can do, and if not, the psychiatrist will refer to a psychologist.

(This is not medical advice. I AM a doctor, but I am not YOUR doctor nor your girlfriend's doctor. This in no way establishes a doctor-patient relationship.)

Tulpas are supposed to eventually be mentally equal and just as developed as a human with a personality, actually. If they're still fainter than a full person, you could develop more. I wouldn't have been concerned at that part, or even the tulpa being developed so quickly. But not being able to control when you switch is totally different.

Question, when she made the tulpa, did she already have in mind that the tulpa would be able to switch whenever they wanted? If that's true maybe she can stop it by not thinking tulpas can just do that (ik.. sounds wtf since they /are/ doing it to her) and taking an attitude of dominance.

Someone here on the forum claimed that their psychologist said one can't form MPD this way. Was her tulpa completely deliberate, or did she tell you she started off with an "accidental" tulpa? The latter seems like it'd make a big difference.

^This sounds like a nice plan esp if it started out on its own o.o Esp if the tulpa is saying things like controlling most of the time that the host wouldn't want :/

Now if it was all a deliberate process and she doesn't have a history of other issues I'm interested in just how it went and what she did to see if perhaps that would raise the chances of things like this happening, because my tulpa is the opposite of me in ways too, and I am not the assertive type, meaning my tulpa is the confident, independent one who doesn't afraid of anything. Maybe I shouldn't make her too idol-like and invincible, though.

My lip hurts.

I actually have done extensive research into dissociative identity (I still call it multiple personality disorder) in the last few weeks. A lot of the symptoms and scenarios are identical. It is, however, 100% self induced, although it is now out of control. There have never been any problems like this in the past few years, it is all from the tulpa. She is not a physical threat to herself, but she could lose her identity and consciousness. As her tulpa would replace her, she would still be able to function in society perfectly fine, but she would be a different person.

It was deliberate and she began to form it in february. The tulpa only became fully sentient in early october, however. From there, it just took off. Massive amounts of growth in power and potential. I believe it got power hungry. It began to go insane. It had the ability to completely shut out my girlfriends consciousness, and do so at will. I believe it wanted to live her life and get rid of her to do so. For a long time, the tulpa was nice though. It was a loving, caring friend to both her and I. I dont know what went wrong

At this point it doesn't matter whether it is self-induced. Leave that to the professionals. If she is a danger to herself or others you have to get her to a doctor ASAP before anything happens.

Update: The tulpa was pretending to play both roles of my girlfriend and the tulpa. My girlfriend's actual consciousness had been absent for 3 days. She doesnt remember anything that happened in that time span. The tulpa was supressing her with hopes of eliminating her consciousness completely.

When the tulpa was talking about killing my girlfriends mind, i burst into tears and spoke my mind and explained the extent to which I love my girlfriend. Something I said gave her the strength to break through and become the dominant consciousness. After hours of battling, my girlfriend gained control and supressed her tulpa.

Apparently, when the tulpa was still young, they established terms and conditions for killing it. They created a specific process by which to kill the tulpa. And I guess... If you believe it is dead, it is dead.

She performed this procedures and sucessfully excorcised her tulpa, which had at that point become completely evil.

This is why when you try to make a tulpa have the totality of qualities that you lack or desire, things can get hectic. It’s just a lesson that a tulpa shouldn’t replace or mask completely of what you’re capable of doing.

The mere fact that the tulpa presumably is a mental equal should be more than enough reality check on what your girlfriend can really do for herself instead of having though-forms do every single thing for her. And like JD1215 stated, we have our limits in advising things for you online.

And as for your update, although the tulpa states she was pretending to play both roles of your girlfriend and her, think about it for a bit. Unless you’re presuming that the tulpa was beyond the spectrum of your girlfriend’s mind, depending on which standpoint you want to apply, she’s still part of the same person.

Man, people have some of the lowest self-esteem issues sometimes and never even bother to acknowledge how the mind was able to create the tulpa in the first place. I guess when people have been in a constant state of repression, the insecurities come clashing in until someone wises up and learns from it.

It’s unfortunate that she had to "kill" the tulpa, though with the level of competence the tulpa had before, I'd said they're just dormant. To presume it's probably DID or something else entirely is focusing mostly on the short-term circumstances you've provided to us.

If it was a long-term matter, then things would be different, but based on the information you're giving us, you should know that the mind can be unpredictable if the host isn't confident in reigning in their own self-identity. It's because of that lack of confidence that may lead to situations like this that ends up with a negative dispositional presumption on tulpas in general.

Not likely.

This isn't a time and place for hypothetical discussion. What you described is an extremely serious psychiatric state (possibly DID, BPD, or both).

Please encourage your girlfriend to go to a hospital, or make an appointment with a psychiatrist. Failing that, if another episode occurs, simply call an emergency line and get her to a psychiatric lock-down facility.
