The Theory of Tulpa Personas

PsychoticDoc

Recommended Posts

The Theory of Tulpa Persona is the theory that more often than not, when a host makes a tulpa, whether it is voluntary, involuntary, planned out detail-by-detail, or sporadic, the tulpa will have an opposite personality of the host, whether it be sort of different, or extremely different.

Example: A depressed host that has little to no friends makes a tulpa. Said tulpa will be energetic, silly, or overall friendly.

If you have any comments about the validity of this theory, feel free to reply. You should reply if this applies to you or not too, just to see if this theory holds together.

I didn't know where to put this, so I just put it in general. I'm sorry if it doesn't belong.

I thought this thread was particularly informative. Complementary traits seem common, but total diametric opposition is all but absent.

I'll use MBTI as a basic personality tool here, too, for the sake of simplicity.

According to the logic in that hypothesis, I should be plagued by an ultra-obnoxious phantom ESTP, or an aloof and pragmatic ISTP, but I haven't encountered either (at least, not as a primary). Instead, my 'tulpas' tend to magnify preferred characteristics, like intuition and social sensibilities (ENFJ, INFJ), or reflect the same sort of people I commonly befriend (INFP, xNTP).

I think the resulting imaginary companion for most people is based on features that are deemed most attractive, consciously or subtly. People typically seem to prefer themselves.

Quilten is very much like me, but more energetic, enthusiastic, and socially aware of people's mood, whereas I am very socially aware of immediate body language and tone. Jira is MUCH happier and sillier than I am, more attuned to slapstick and cartoon humor as opposed to my preference of dark humor.

So yes, I would say that this theory has a good amount of validation. I'd be interested to learn more about this theory.

[align=center]Even though my username is that of my tulpa, Quilten, my name is Phaneron, the host, who does all of the actual posting.

Tulpas: Quilten, Jira

If you wanna learn more about it, just go into the IRC's or look through people's progress logs and just note how the host and tupper are similar and different. it can be very fun
