TB May 8, 2022 May 8, 2022 I usually just avoid tuna since it is outliery bad with the mercury thing and for other fish I don't think about it much. But if it is the same amount in each then that's weird. I've definitely ate more fish that a couple cans of tuna worth. It is just so good and there is so much of it. They cook it in droves here Creation for creation's sake. we draw things Resident Dojikko
Breloomancer May 8, 2022 May 8, 2022 tuna has more mercury than most fish do I have a tulpa named Miela who I love very much. How we got here | Share your experimental tulpamancy ideas | My unhinged ramblings "People put quotes in their signatures, right?" -Me
Luminesce May 8, 2022 May 8, 2022 Wow, that's obscenely bad advice. Tuna is not the only fish with mercury worth worrying about, there are other fish that (while not as bad as "once every 9 days") are dangerous to eat every single day. 16 minutes ago, TB said: But if it is the same amount in each then that's weird. Couldn't figure out how to word it better, but I meant not to make the mistake of "Well I ate tuna and can't eat that again for 9 days, so I'll just eat X fish now until then" or something, since the mercury from all kinds of fish will stack up, just something that was possible to forget to think about Tuna has enough omega-3's to be fine to eat once every 9 days by the way, and that's what I do. But that's because I can't stand literally any other fish. (Tuna is very... unique-tasting and somewhat strong, so it would be perfectly reasonable to hate it, but I happen to not, and it doesn't have the "fishy" taste that all other sea and river creatures seem to have) I think tuna is only like third or fourth best for omega-3's though. IIRC Salmon has even more omega-3's than tuna, which means theoretically you need to eat it even less often lol, and yet you can eat it more often. But don't go overboard, mercury poisoning is very bad and omega-3's aren't essential to live, they just help (AFAIK they're "essential" because they can't be produced by the body, not because you die without them) Some fish only have like 1/20th of what the top best fish for omega-3's have, and those would be good to eat often mercury-allowing, but the top best fish have so much omega-3 in them they can really be eaten only once a week Hi! TurboSimmie May 8, 2022 May 8, 2022 I think the level of mercury in fish varies greatly by the kind of fish, so there are probably fish that are safe to eat daily or almost daily, it's worth looking up. It's sad that tuna isn't one of them; Phil loves a good tuna steak but only gets one or two a month for this reason. Luminesce May 8, 2022 May 8, 2022 There's a kind of tuna that has a lot less mercury than the other kind, if you specifically like having tuna often you should look into that. I just don't talk about them because to my knowledge, they're called "Chunk light" and "Chunk white", making them stupidly hard to differentiate I know that I eat the higher-mercury one though, so I eat it once every 7 to 14 days Hi! TB May 8, 2022 May 8, 2022 Last night I ate squid for the first time. It is like eating egg whites but it tastes like it came out of the ocean I also had flounder and salmon Salmon is my favorite fish still yet I also had a ton of shrimp Had 4 pieces of fish today I'd rather have mercury poisoning than alzheimers Creation for creation's sake. we draw things Resident Dojikko
Luminesce May 8, 2022 May 8, 2022 (edited) You'd rather not have mercury poisoning at all, I assure you. A quick google says you can have salmon "2 to 3 times a week", or "8 to 12 ounces a week". So make sure you don't eat any more than that. (Salmon has so incredibly much omega-3 that you will NOT receive any benefit from eating it more than once a week, I assure you) I mean look at this nonsense https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/12-omega-3-rich-foods You need between 250 and 500 mg of Omega-3 per day (so 1750 - 3500 mg per week, per-day is unimportant) for reference Edited May 8, 2022 by Luminesce Hi! TurboSimmie May 8, 2022 May 8, 2022 Salmon and shrimp are fairly low in mercury. Salmon is also delicious, at least in my opinion! Tulpa Wife & Mother! 💚 💍 11.28.21 👶 4.7.23 👗 Simmie's AI Dress-Up! 📷 Chloe and Simmie's Photographic Adventures!
TB May 8, 2022 May 8, 2022 (edited) Why is there mercury in our oceans that infect fish we should sue whoever made it so that the best meat can't be eaten everyday instead I have to eat disgusting red meat or white meat, I'm trying to be vegan or pescatarian. How do they live? I will try to avoid mercury poisoning. I guess I have my omega 3s for the week I vote for 0 mercury fish farms Edited May 8, 2022 by TB Creation for creation's sake. we draw things Resident Dojikko
